Hi Guys. I would explain that in this video i only wanna show u the new (new? its a 2yo video) nano controllers... I'm not saying that I'm a dj or what... its just a demo of using nano controllers & ableton, in this case I played techno-minimal music.
THIS IS THE MODERN DJ SET, THE OLD STYLE VNYL DJ SET IS SO LAST (5?) YEARS. EVERYONE IS USING MIDI CONTROLLER NOW. JUST A LAPTOP PLAYING? THEY MADE THE LOOPS. STUPID! GO PLAY DJ HERO, AND YOU'LL FIND DAFT PUNK USING MIDIS NOT A VNYL DJ.
ya, genius, they're called midi controllers. look at everygreat "DJ" these days and no one rocks turntables. bassnectar, pretty lights, even daft punk, all use midi. so i'd scope some jazzy jeff if you wanna see some records. ass.
there's no need for re-recording since the original tracks are out there with better quality ,..i hate this kind of djs... it's not a live set it's not a turntable . then what is it ? oh it's just a laptop playing and a dude with a camera,,, bravo
@xbuster17 What elvizzo89 is doing is a simplified version of a technique called controllerism. This is as valid a form of making music as picking up an instrument or using decks. I say, "Keep up the good work".
@xbuster17 its not like he didnt prepare all the loops and sounds... He made all the loops and then if he were to ever DJ a place, he would trigger the loops in a cool, live dj type fashion.
ho ntenzione di comprare il nanopad. ma volendo si riesce a collegare il pad ad un lfo di un programma usando i due valori x e y direttamente sull'lfo?
would you like some wires with that? Good stuff though, thinking of getting a NanoPad or a PadKontrol, any ideas for what would work best for live Drum n Bass at all? Any help appreciated :)
Ima total noob with both ableton and the korg nanopad and need to now on how to sync the nanopad as a sampler to ableton live, if that makes sense. any1 who can help please do!!!
its simple, at least with the nanopad. You select the midi button in the top right hand corner of session view and the bits you can assign are highlighted blue. Select a clip you want to assign and press the pad you want to assign it to, done :) hope it helps
The nanokontrol unit (closest to the camera, in front of the nanopad unit) has sliders, knobs and buttons. The sliders like control volumes of the various loops playing in the track. The knobs, either panning left/right or maybe level of certain parameters like decay/reverb/etc. The buttons to the left of the slider may be for muting and solo-ing a particular loop.
its just a midi controller, don't have one but i'm pretty sure it comes with some software that lets you assign the buttons to whatever you need. lots of soft synths have a "learn" mode where you can assign the pads or knobs to triggers, sounds, notes, knobs, etc.
You don't need any software, if ableton recognizes the midi controller. If it's the case you ctrl-M , click a command on abeton, turn a button on the Korg and you've done :)
Windows 7 I think is just as good as Leopard. I haven't used snow leopard though.. unfortunately. Im using reason 4 a lot at the moment, and it is running so fuckin smooth on my windows 7 machine right now I never thought it was possible on windows based machines :P I grew up with windows though, so mac just annoys me :L
I am thinking before I post. I am an IT professional. Not someone who looks at the pretty ads. They arent reliable, They die just like every other computer, but you can repair a PC. Look at the iPhone for christ's sake, pitiful device wasting a lot of potential. Dont see any core i7s in them either do you? You have been fed bullshit my friend, take it from a system builder.
I totaly agree. PCs are just as reliable as a mac. macs make people stupid imo people don't learn how to do anything. for them self with a mac. your more of a sheep to buy a mac than to buy/build a windows/linux system.
The only thing PCs are useful for is gaming. That's why generally gamers buy PCs and top designers/music producers buy Macs. Better, faster more reliable user interface for those applications. And with regard to pretty ads...have you seen a Dell ad recently? At least Apple's advertisements are tolerable!
Oh and I agree with the fact that Garage Band is a bag of shite, but it's exactly what is says on the tin, it's for people messing around with their garage band trying to get tracks together...it doesn't really claim to be anything more
Hi everyone, I use bcd3000 with traktor pro, and it working perfect, yesterday I bought nanokontrol I connected to computer and now for some reason in traktor pro bcd3000 its not working and the latency of knobs and faders in traktor pro is very low, works only BCD3000WDM in the audio setup choice menu, please this is driving me crazy....
I totally agree, I just got my Mac, and I love it to bits, Garage Band is just as good as Ableton in my opinion. And a lot less difficult to use!
I have the Korg nano-pads. I think they're good, but sometimes unresponsive to my taps. I've noticed in the '09 Garageband you can mess around with MP3 songs, taken from iTunes and such. I'll give it a try when I can find my bloody cable!!
Bit of a stupid think to say!! I've just moved to mac, last week. I'm a professional Sound Designer I run Ableton as my main daw. Sure macs are expensive, and for good reason, reliability in the studio and live environment.
there are DEFINITLY differences in th OS...believe me...
Macs dont get infected by viruses etc...are more efficient...OSX is more intuitive...but u dont know anything and just talk shit...
it dont matters who produces with what...i use Mac Pro, if i need it, i use Win...and i would never ever change completely to windows...yuppi - thats so dumb...
of course you could partition your hard drive and run os x on the secondary partition. or flip it and partition your mac and run win7 from it's secondary partition.
the only thing i will agree with is that they are less susceptible to viruses. and have less interuptions as far as system messages go. and neither of those two things are beneficial enough to pay nearly double the price for half the performance.
midi is a one channel one input thign if you dont get a program to hum both or already have a built in second to do so your pc will only run one. midi at a time
there's a tutorial on ableton about setting up midi, assign Kontrol and Pad as control surfaces. I found that sometimes Ableton's not picking them up, maybe bcause the Korg usb hub isn't a powered hub. I might get a powered one and try to sort it.
who cares about the korg controls, let's talk about mac vs pc...... fail

what exactly does the nano control?
can you play loops with this thing and use some effects which u assign to the knobs via ableton or what?

hanfbrot 2 years ago
Short answer, yes.
My guesses, anyway.

of course you could partition your hard drive and run os x on the secondary partition. or flip it and partition your mac and run win7 from it's secondary partition.
null argument.

more efficient how?
the only thing i will agree with is that they are less susceptible to viruses. and have less interuptions as far as system messages go. and neither of those two things are beneficial enough to pay nearly double the price for half the performance.

Look at any top producer and see what they use, Mac dude, plain and simple.

how did you setup the nanopad and kontrol with ableton? i cant get mine to work whatsoever
redsweatshirt 2 years ago
there's a tutorial on ableton about setting up midi, assign Kontrol and Pad as control surfaces. I found that sometimes Ableton's not picking them up, maybe bcause the Korg usb hub isn't a powered hub. I might get a powered one and try to sort it.

Could you hook up like 4 nanopads to ableton and use them all for clip launching? Would they work in a USB hub? Not all MIDI hardware does. Cheers.

I believe you would need a powered hub, but you should be able to do it.
vithx 2 years ago
Yes you can, and yes. they can be used in a normal hub
