  • The cry babies on here who are complaining DO NOT KNOW MUSIC!

Music is Everything and Anything someone wants it to be. This is amazing. Maksim is amazing. Lay off him.

  • this version is awesome! u jelly bro?

  • i love it! =]

  • he wouldn't become so famous if he played the original version like other pianists

  • Horrible, if we accept this, we should also accept String adagio from the great composer: DJ Tiesto.... We should accept that music should no longer have it's soul. We should cutt it right away...

  • I´m a pianist and I enjoyed it. I also listened to Maksim´s classical version and enjoyed it as well. Music just like all of the arts should be made available to everyone. Countries develop based on the arts and culture and if that means doing something a bit different so that a group that would not have been exposed to it can understand it...all the better

  • 80 musicians here...

  • it does always make me laugh seeing people getting overprotective of something that isn't theres

  • Não me surpreende um número tão grande de gente que não tenha gostado, a ignorância e o mau gosto são os príncipes desses dias.

Mas, Maksim está de parabéns por levar música de qualidade ao povo tão carente de coisas boas.

  • While yes, much as there are music "snobs" in every genre--whether Kenny G to Jazz or Bond/Vanessa Mae/Maksim to Classical music. I still say..

At least the "masses" are being exposed to that type of music.

  • @duskglow 100% agree with you i like piano solo

  • What's good is good. Period.

  • So sad. It makes something creative so formulaic. Like everything else in popular culture, please dumb art down so all the idiots can feel cultured!

  • How can so called "Pianists" not appreciate this? Sure, it may be a 'shame' to Grieg's original but this is some fucking amazing piano going on here!

  • I am a pianist. I liked it. I was very disappointed that he didn't do more with some of the other themes - there are some very, very beautiful parts of this piece he utterly ignored. For example, the second movement.

  • He's attempting to make classical music more accessible to a wider range of audience. Which is more then it could be said for imbeciles sitting in front of their computers and making useless comments.

  • @EvergreenSelena well, I'm at the mid distance between ur point of view and the rest.... I know it's sad that very few people get to listen and understand classical music these days and his attempt with this piece is to show to those specific kind of people classical music still has a lot to offer nowdays but, I also agree with the people thinking that classic music is meant to be played as close as it can be played to the original parts. It's just a matter of taste after all

  • I LIKED ''HIS'' VERSION OF GRIEG'S CONCERTO. I CAN'T ACCEPT YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE SO ''UPPITY'' . maxsim is a fine pianist>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • super*********

  • Amazing the number of elitist snobs that can't judge a performance on it's own merit.

  • disgrace

  • Pathetic.

    Szánalmas.

  • This is spitting upon Grieg's grave, shame on the pianists who watched this video and thought it was good.

  • @RokujyuuyonShou ...... Dear Sir , I was just a watcher and enjoyed it very much , the whole thing was just great . But life taught me that when someone says about someone or something that it's not GOOD , he " Has" to explain it and he has to be a professional if we're talking about Music specially : i.e. where did this performance goof - why do you see the performance incompetent , so for me to watch it again from your point of view and better judge it and respect your opinion . Pls. Answer

  • @magdikelada I do not deny my opinion is highly biased, and I'm no professional to judge this man, but for all the viewers who deeply love and respect classical music, it is rather hard to accept such a remake of a masterpiece. (and a rather poor one, to boot, seeing that it's almost just an entire remix of the opening bars of the original and also technically easy)

I believe any classically trained pianist like myself (by no means I am a professional) would be deeply offended by this video.

  • @magdikelada It is rather offensive to "modernise" a classical piece in this way for the sake of recognition from the teens of this age (who has unfortunately sworn off classical music because of how it is not "trendy" or "cool"), by repeating the main themes of the original and slapping a catchy beat onto it, because it sounds "exciting" for the general audience who has never listened to classical music. (or listened, but dislike classical music)

  • @magdikelada It's not a matter of elitism, it is just truly difficult to accept (not to mention appreciate) this kind of remix when it is apparently a bastardization and plagiarism of a classic we know and love.

  • I don't speak English very well, but this music is wonderful and the pianist too.

  • Maravilhosa interpretação do músico nessa linda melodia.

    C'est fini"

    This is a wonderful music

    Thanks!

  • wtf../??????//

    Marcelle

  • I think that this kind of arrangement is an insult to all pianists (especially to Rubinstein-video of his interpretation is under suggestions of this video).

  • @wehwalte

Chacun ses goûts, la merde est bonne !!!

  • All I can say is that i love arranging music! And this guys is the epitome of what i would one day love to mirror! I dont care if i was this popular! But to play beautiful music like that would be wonderful!!!

  • MaxsIM MAGIC FINGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!did he really practice 10 hrs. a day at the age of 8? He's got tremendous focus................i'm always happy to hear Maxsim play. He's well rounded, he can play anything ever written. Bless the day he was born, and the mother who bore him. He is focused. And he sounds like a very charming man. Wish there were more men like him on the planet. Alas, he's unique and much appreciated.

  • I'd like to go to Maksim's concert one day! HE IS AMAZING

  • 0:24 - can't hold laughing

  • もう、言葉が無いくらい素晴らしいです。乗りも良いしね。気持ちがポジティブになりますね。

  • Hey

he is my non persian favorite ..he ope the classical music to the youth ....as i allways said ,i am in love with this hands...to all the criticisies ...move on ..i love his way of playing ..!!! thank you for posting this !!!!

  • This is perfect for getting people into the world of classical. Instead of criticising this video go to Valantina Lisitsa or someone and watch the full concerto and enjoy it. Let the people who enjoy this do so!

  • @stevey226 its not classical its romantic music classical was way b4 grieg

  • @DunNotCome I think you'll find this is classical music. It's not from the classical period, I agree. So please make sure you're up on your "Classical" knowledge before you try to criticise someone else on their knowledge, or lack of (As you so believed).

  • @stevey226 read up Grieg on wikipedia.

I am a classical baroque pianist for your info so you up ur knowledge on classical b4 u rebut others.

  • @DunNotCome I'm a classically trained pianist... Classical is anything from the 9th century upward... This conversation, if you can call it that, is pointless. Learn your facts, learn to spell then I'll get back to you (Not that I really need to).

  • @DunNotCome Thank you for the private message. I'm well aware that Grieg is from the romantic period... Which fits in with classical music. Baroque to modern all fits into the classical band (Some modern composers still write in that style). Ask anyone who's studied music (To a reputable level) to name you a classical piece, they'll name anything from the periods I just listed... Ask them something from the classical period, Grieg will not pop up (Obviously).

  • What the hell is that?

  • GRIEG! Oh, genious Grieg! T_T T_T

    >-| wth is that disco version!!!!

  • This should be considered a crime.

  • @pablopiano I totally agree

i totally dislike this disco version >-|

  • This should be considered a crime. He murdered Grieg.

  • @pablopiano I think composers would like hearing new versions of their music. They'd appreciate having their ideas represented in new ways so even more people can enjoy them. Sure, this isn't my favorite version, but it's still Grieg.

  • @Elemarth This is not Grieg. This is Mrvica's "transcription" of Grieg's Concerto. It is actually not even a proper transcription; it is only based on only four of the hundreds of (only the first movement's) passages of Grieg's Concertoplus it includes MANY things added by Mrvica as well (80%) . Therefore, this is not Grieg, it is a completely different transcription from another composer. "Ideas represented in new ways"? This is not a pop song that just can be switched to another style. Learn.

  • @pablopiano I accept that it was only a very small part of the concerto and doesn't exactly deserve the title of Concerto, but it's not like he made something up out of his own head and called it Grieg's Concerto for no reason. If you want me to "learn", then explain the difference between "a pop song that just can be switched to another style" and classical music that must be played in the original style.

  • @Elemarth There's no such thing as a musical piece that "has" to be played a certain way. The whole point of music is that you can interpret it the way you like, be it classical or modern. Several pieces have been played on an instrument they were not written for, for example.

  • @Epicentera Thank you... I agree...

  • He is a God from musical Heaven..

  • Comment removed

  • i love both original and your version!!

  • er,,,seriously,,i respect his way,,but totally long live the original concerto,,we must preserve it so it will run through the flow of time,,dont let it vanish<

  • That was the whole concerto? Poor Grieg... Poor this bloody world.

  • Fell off my chair at 0:24 xD

  • @eldarshus351 Go cry somewhere else.

He plays the way he does to reach an audiance of which you are obviously not a member, so please go listen to something you like instead of intentionally continuing to listen to music the you disapprove of. Have a nice day.

  • at last.......worthy competition for our beloved Richard Claydermann.....

  • I did an honest attempt to find something I like in this performance. Although Maxim is obviously a skilled musician, the whole entourage, the pathos and the changes made to the original score are blasphemy in the eyes of this music lover.

  • I love his "toilet face" at 0:58, just amazing feeling of music, deep inside

  • It's a good attempt at combining classical with modern music and by all means, it doesn't sound bad. But I think, the piano-drum-solo-parts just don't fit.

  • love the remix but hate how douchey and affected he looks. ur not at carnegie hall dude lol

  • mais c'est quoi ces remix a la con ?

  • I assumed ppl said the same thing when Horowitz made his own version of the Number 2

  • you people who dont like this oughta open your minds. This man obviously appriciates good writters and shows it by using his music mastermind to tribute to the people.

  • @tonytwobears Darling, if Maxim is such a mastermind, he can surely write his own compositions instead of ruining other genius's work? (I don't remember ever being so upset about anything posted on youtube...)

  • @Guitaril Please, I surely didnt mean to upset anyone at all. I do believe that I made a good point. I also believe that have a good point also. Please, though, I am sorry if I offended you.

  • @tonytwobears No offense taken, I wasn't referring to your post but to the music in general.

  • @Guitaril Oh good. If it makes you feel better it made me get the sheet music and learn this song. The way it was written. Im not very good but I do enjoy the piano and accordian.

  • This is absolutely awful. I have no doubt of Maksim's technical facilities but this arrangement is a mere perversion of the original concerto. Why? Name me one thing that's original in this arrangement in terms of the music itself (i.e. not instrumentation or electronic mixes). If you can't, that is because there is NONE! It's just the same theme over and over again. It's like reducing Hamlet into just "To be or not to be" and read over and over again for 5 mins. Absolute crap!

  • @AquaExecution

Hey dude we dont live in the stone age anymore. NO OFFENCE. Ppl have to move forward. Dont you think it would be too ordinary if everyone is playing the same piece. From what i listen, i can say Maksim is a very creative and innovative pianist. Not to say i dont like the traditional way of playing but different ppl have different ways to express their music and this is the way Maksim express his.

  • @AquaExecution FUCK YOU! like u can do this!

  • Comment removed

  • who wouldn't being able to play that.

  • Looks like he's having an orgasm.

  • you can see how different his emotions are from the other songs. This just comes to show how much he feels about his music. Musicians like Maksim are a perfect examples of how much modern day society takes care of art.

    Go Maksim!

  • @AsiansUnite10 These videos shows exactly how little the nowdays society cares about music and art, this is pure and unspoiled rubbish.

And you must be deaf or born with some kind of mental retard to put out such statements...

  • his piano touch is just perfect.

  • he is the only pianist that take care of his look .. he dont seem to be hacky or sweecky as the others ..

    talented and too cute ..

i just wish to have a boy friend look like him !

  • OMG! Grieg himself would be AWED!!!!!!!

  • he plays then he feels truly a master in music

  • Great piece & performance, I love it

  • Marvellous!!!!!!

  • no commenct, I think that no one camera can t catch his moves

  • 0:58 He turns me on :) <3

  • love his face when he smile=]

  • I love this song much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is fantastic.Thank You for your sharing, it is awesome!!!!!!!!Hahaha

  • men, its a nice version, but you cant play with classical music..

  • This musician is an amazing talent and a wonder to hear.

  • i bet that guy gets soooo many women hahaha. i bet his chat up line is "you wanna see how fast i can move my fingers?" hahaha

  • einfach nur verdammt genial !!!!!!!

  • Yucky!!! But extremely original and fun :)

  • This seems like a lot of fun for the performers and Maksim. I do believe he has enormous respect for these composers. Andre Rieu puts on a show very similar to this. Bravo, I say.

  • that was awesome ..

    5 stars !

  • It's a pleasure for me to see u performing live, someday, I would visit the country of Croatia and see u performing. Nice, you're a genius! ^_^V

  • This guy's playing is fantastic-you can tell he really feels what he is playing-sexy too!

  • That's Badass!

  • I wonder, he will visit Los Angeles ? I would go and see him. He is great !

  • !!!!!Amazing!!!!!!

  • maksim is such an amazing pianist...i only wonder, what on earth is he wearing on his right hand, and where can i buy one?

  • Personally, I liked it. I appreciated Maksim's playing much more as opposed to the arrangement.

His Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 was insanely gd, it has shown that the original version can be more appealing than Horowitz's arrangement. I generally like Lang Lang save for few criticisms, but i think Maksim pawns Lang on that one.

  • Hello people! there's no need to criticize or condemn a piece of work. Music is for all to hear, all to enjoy. A lot of work goes into any arrangement & composition.

Perhaps it's not what the composer had in mind. But he could only write one verison of the story. It may be that he wanted it to stay that way, or may be he left it open for others to work with it. Either way, no good come out of shooting down others, it causes anger and frustration.

If you dun like it, just turn it off. :)

  • bad i cant even describe it it's sobad!

  • ''If they fail to realise that Maksim DOES NOT do these arrangements then that is their problem. Maksim is hardly going to turn down a music contract now is he?''

Of course he won't...but he is also responsible for playing and accepting the arrangements..

he is the intepreteur after all..

i like his playing i really appreciate him...but i believe Grieg did not had this in mind when he wrote this concerto...

    cheers

  • Excelente, me encanta su estilo.

  • damn he's cute haha.

  • amazing... wow. :D

  • amazing

  • An excellent interpretation which is also good to work out and run to! Agree fully with Arpeggionotes: sticking to the same music and format becomes turgid. Maksim's music has its place, as do the original versions.

  • Extraordinary! An innovative fusion of classical piano and pop. To anyone who is critical of this performance, you seriously need to reconsider what it means to be creative and artistic. As musicians we must seek to grow and expand our horizons. Constricting ourselves to playing the same music all the time is not progessive nor imaginative. All of these musicians are so passionate, extremely gifted, and simply phenomenal. Bravo!

  • Hmm, well... I would agree that the arrangement is creative, however, every work of art is inevitably subject to opinion. I personally to do not prefer this version over the original, but that does not mean that my musical imagination is constricted. A musician does not have to like every piece of music.

  • whats wrong with you people, like seriously, i play piano and i think this retouch is quite good, why are you people criticizing it so much -_- i actually dont understand

  • incrible, is amazing

  • you are the one who is disgusting you idiot!!!

  • you people are imbecils.....zibatarin123 and fairiebee not you....you are the man.....the rest of you maksim is the one of the best piano player in the world....when he was 8 years old he played 10 hours a day.....if you are so smart you play this....

  • @tigarrrrr69

What does intelligence have to do with it? I've played the actual concerto, not the one with 90% of the music removed.

  • @tigarrrrr69 That isn't the point, is it? The man has his true technical merits as a pianist but lacks taste.

  • @tigarrrrr69 LOL

By the way, he may be a pretty good pianist but :

    1. He is not one of the best, unless you take something like the top 1000

    2. He dramatically lacks musical taste...

  • @Isyriand agree, he is NOT the best, and he says he gives new spin to compositions by Chopin or Liszt- well.... neither of them needs spinning! Adding bass to great Chopin composition just proves his complete lack of taste. I strongly recommend Rubinstein or Lang Lang:)

  • @Isyriand You personally know 1000 pianists?

  • @pandagoth You are so smart. I'm so sorry I upset you...

On the other hand, you could also question the fact that if somebody states he is one of the best in the world, then, under your standards, they would have to actually know every single good pianist in the world... Sounds dumb now hey ?

And last but no least, to be in the top 1000 is actually GREAT ! For if you had gone to a conservatoire of music you would have known that there are MANY good pianists...

    Take care.

  • @Isyriand Likewise.

Let's be friends, after all, isn't one persons definition of quality always going to differ from another?

    :)

  • @pandagoth Agreed !

    :)

  • @tigarrrrr69 yes but he could play it normal :)

  • I can't listen to this song without thinking of Morecambe and Wise with Andre Previn.

  • very loosely based on the real piece, repetative, just a few of the themes in this, good effort, though....

  • Alors maksim t'es content d'avoir bousiller un concerto que j'aimais bien ?

Tes reprises me donne envie de vomir ...

  • really though?

  • i like his flight of bumblebee n croatian rhapsody best!!!

  • he makes very...interesting facial expressions when he plays lol. have to give him credit though, john mayer looks worse lol. maksim prolly just really gets into it lol

  • sorry...but...do you play piano? a good player gets into music.

  • One of the most famous Composers from Greece ..write about this piece ..that

he never thought it could be done better than the original

he saluted Maksim ..and so do i .

Thank you for posting this !!

    I LOVE IT !!!

  • this is amazing :-)

  • All of you pretentious "musicians" busting Mrvica's chops because he added a modern flair to classical music need to grow up.

This isn't the first time classical music has been arranged.

I would assume Grieg would have feelings of flattery, not disgust.

Close this video, listen to a classical recording instead, and please, do not aspire to be a musician. You're a cancer.

  • very clever statement...-1

  • His face at 0:58..... It's too funny.

Seriously, I have no problem with this style of music but could he perhaps just use his own original music instead?

Grieg deserves a bit more dignity and respect than this.

The crossover crowd will call us classical musicians old fashioned and elite but even while you're insulting us you don't seem to mind stealing our music do you?

Why doesn't he do the world a favor and write his own stuff and THEN screw it up and leave Grieg alone?

  • hi matt its your brother thomas

  • I love this! If Grieg could hear it, he would weep with joy that his music was the inspiration for such a creation. It is definitely better than the boring original version by far!!

  • that's disgusting. If you call the original grieg concerto "boring" you should really not be here. You insult Grieg, one of the greatest composers to have lived, all because of your pop culture ignorance of needing a drumbeat and electronics on everything that you hear. Its horrible, i hate it, and it ruins everything Grieg would have lived for - peaceful norwegian villages - peasants - mountains. This shows no of that - just a load of garbage. Well done camaysar222 - thou art an idiot.

  • Relax that sphincter, Will, I was being facetious.

  • I am a purist at heart when it some to classical music, I admire you're being indignant; the artist here is perhaps selling out to obtain and appease his probably younger fans who only dabble in this genre. However, music is only magnificant when it is played and performed, as it was always written and intended to be, and I cannot deny that, despite his shortcomings, Maksim is very talented and feels the music in his soul. I enjoy him immensely when he plays without being accompanied.

  • you're right!

  • I would like to have this song on my O2 mania/jam. :D

you know, catchy classical remixes like this are the best for the game.

  • You will all understand (what a genius you scorn !) one day!!! ('Awful backbeat'...? Lord, don't, please, get into jazz!)

  • It's live. And Mr. Grieg need a breath of air.

  • Musique de merde !

    It's horrible

I've got a CD from the real concerto, which is a good piano concerto.

But there is no word in french to describe this version !

    I've got Nausea !

  • 100% agree ... "musique de merde!"

  • i hate it.

this is totally NOT what Grieg would have wanted if he were still alive.

..but i guess this is what a lot of modern classical music has come to these days ): it's saddening to see that the public majority would prefer this cheesy remix instead of the original Grieg. All he does is repeat the same theme over and over again. SO REDUNDANT!

I'm probably going to get a lot of thumbs down for this but

i don't care. give it to me if you want, i will still think the same.

  • Oh, dear... If blasphemy still exists, this is about as close as it gets... Even though the piano playing is not too bad, the arrangement is... Ghastly. He excuses himself with bringing classical music to new listeners, but this is hardly the way to do it... The arrangement adds nothing to the original - instead it's a cheesy, pathetic, desperate attempt to earn quick bucks ruining the works of the great masters.

As mentioned, it's truly a shame that such a talent is wasted in this way.

  • i'd rate the peice a 1 1/2 (the half was for the piano). the backround music wasn't very attractive at all, and the arrangement killed the vibe of Grieg, I'm aware Maksim didn't make it, but he should put his own say into the music

  • was there not a rather gay american pianist who jazzed up classical music. He had real talent but dumbed it down for the American masses. Died of aids as I recall. He made a fortune and he was atop notch pianist but a quick buck was to be made. As for this stuff again he is a very talented person he just has no talent for re arranging music. Egos have ruined many an excellent player. The point is they are just that players. Stay with what you know.

  • that was actually a verry interesting arangement

ahah of course i would say that it woudl sound a llot less cheezy if that rave ish trans ish drum beat in tah backround was taken off

as well as tha electronic synth or watever

but overall verry intersesting. always kept me guesing wat might come next

  • AWESOME!!! Beautiful music from an astounding (and handsome!) artist!

  • I like this, but I still like the original piece more. I don't like the modern twist.
