At that era, and for a long time more, pepsi were making "funny" ads showing that pepsi is better than coke. But coke, showed we are all equals, and even though it may be a little silly how everyones united over coke, but the point is everyones united. I don't know how pepsi outsold coke. This has more than advertising value, it has inspirational value.

That's true -- you can still get Coke original recipe sweetened from sugar cane in 16oz bottles and imported from Mexico. It's at most Mexican markets in the U.S. and even many mainstream grocery stores.
