The death peanalty should only be applied in cases of overwhealming physical evidence, it is far more merciful than life inprisonment (wich is iteself a death sentance).
you said yourself it's more merciful. What is the difference between a cop who shoots someone because he feels they deserve it and a mad man? Why do we kill people who kill people to prove that killing people is wrong?
@phookadude That assume you know something about what being dead is like. While a person remains alive there is always a chance of an acquittal and reprieve.
Where is the trick when it comes to the victims? I'll bet if they were here they would love to take this test instead of allowing their killer to do it with all that free time in prison.
These puzzles are designed to trick your eyes. I've never heard of a death penalty case involving evidence with those in it. And an eye witness account for a case ending in the death penalty would be like a person witnessing a murder -- I don't think the eyes can be tricked with that.
How do you explain the gap? (last illusion)

@goog2k the hypotinuse is not straight.. i.e. those are not triangles. In the top one it bows slightly in, and in the bottom slightly out.

@deevise Well, that might sound plausible but all of the inner geometric figures have identical measurements in square blocks?

Just blur your eyes and most illusions will be solved

@phookadude why should it be applied at all?

@MidnightRayn It's more mercyful than life inprisonment in a maximum security penetentiary.

@4000crocodiles if you back this argument up or not, if you can't see the point it's making you're either lying to yourself or not very intelligent.

Just one of the many arguments against the death penalty.
