  • i could do with out the stick spinning ...

  • 4 stroke rolls like nothing..

  • Who said you need twin pedal?

  • 0:51

  • Dude is Amazing

  • @jts024

  • Whenever I watch these type of drummers it makes want to put my sticks down for good. Thank goodness people appreciate me for the type of drummer I am...

  • yeah brotha

  • Just play the drums John, stop showing off.

  • i liked the bit with the drums. you know, from about 0:00 to 2:28

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

  • anyone know the crash/effect cymbal on his far right?

  • @creyd93 Its a Zildjian EFX, im not sure if its an A, K, or ZHT though.

  • Having seen this video, I've decided to quit playing drums.

  • His toms sound so clean and pure.

  • 0:51 - I came

  • Tama Bubinga in the house...

  • it's out of sync.

  • that left hand is amazing

  • I absolutely love the text book definition of heel-toe bass pedalin' he's doing in this. His groove is interesting, too ... Really really flashy and fast drummer.

  • Anyone can tell me how the song is called?

  • wooooo en el minuto 1:50 hacee un ritmooo un tanto parecido al que acostumbra hacer Virgil donati.

  • @beccofontanna It's not exactly the same, but yeah.

  • Amazing! I also just love the sound of that snare drum... Heck the whole kit sounds great!

  • Holy fuck is the only thing that comes to mind.

  • dear lord.

  • SO SLICK

  • that ride is pure sex

  • i can play the keys from 00:00 to 2:18

  • @Bigadrum hahahahahahahahahaha that was funny, but at 1:07 when john starts with the tricks, look at the keyboard player he's face is like wtf? and goes out of time and then misses the keys, so maybe is not that easy if you have that beast playing the drums that close, one of the sharpest and cleanest drummers today no doubt about it

  • I think Buddy Rich woulda liked this guy.

Not sure WTF "way too much groove" means.

  • more cowbell necessary

  • pa´que despues digan que el mejor baterista del mundo es el de maná ajajajajajaa

  • Now that is some jazz drumming ;)

  • he is a really well black john :D

  • this is all i can say--->  .

  • John Whitewell

  • My pants caught on fire at 1:50

  • Comment removed

  • I bet Chuck Norris can do it better.

  • @1Hero411 Hell no

  • the groove at 1:50 is when I shit on myself

  • @jts024 yeah ! me too... i have had to change my pants

  • @jts024

When I saw that, was like.. "" ..and also with One Foot ?? ò____Ô "

    Holy.. .reglwregjwoiugrghvberhuoiv

  • When he does his stick tricks it reminds me of "This drummer is at the wrong gig" guy.

  • @benerdt1987 I hope you're kidding..

  • @benerdt1987 travis barker is shit. this man is a god; possiblyone of the gratest drummers ever, along with neil peart and gavin harrison of course

  • I think he was born in a pair of pants because this man always stays in the pocket!

  • I feel groovier just from watching this.

  • 2:08 haha

  • my drum teacher always told me, the sticks need to become the natural extension of your forearms. looking at john blackwell, I think I understand what he meant.

  • @VentoRdrummeR Yes i think 0:54 to 0:59 is a great example :P

  • I hate how most people think a drum solo has to have fast double bass to be the best. Rhythms like this aren't so fast, but the syncopation in this solo is just amazing.

  • @bitteredge the finest solos are the ones that are within the framework of the music - just like all the other instruments. I think it's a lot more fun to play this way. Jazz and latin players have been showing us this all along. The old "everyone stop so the drummer can take a solo" part of the performance gets old for a lot of us and we crave the fun of improv during the piece. And for younger and newer players - this is the thing to talk your bandmates into. You'll get better, I promise.

  • what snare his using??? pls answer me, thnks...

  • @highlightmaterial It`s his signature snare ;) then you to what to type to find it ;)

  • @123LarsUlrich thnk u so much =)

  • @highlightmaterial No problem :D Enjoy ;)

  • waouh waouh waouh!!!

nor chamber, neither Cobham, neither Garibaldi neither Weckl nor Erskin...

but a perfect style on his own

  • lovely drum sound especially the snare....mega playing too (but it's John Blackwell so that goes without saying)

  • what's that foot technique......incredible!!!

  • Bing!!!! That's it

  • Monster!!!

  • I went to college with several of Blackwell's friends and eneded up meeting him at his old High School in Columbia, SC. very down to earth guy and has been bad for a loooooooooong time!

  • I wish I knew what this guy practiced to get this good

  • Go zildjian k customs!

  • @DrumsetMonkey Yeah! :D

  • play well, but horrible music..

  • holy shit. the single bass pedal work is unbelievable tekkers!

  • GROOVE: /watch?v=sTMjT6YsyXk

  • groove+gospel=John Blackwell

  • Respond to this video...

  • @familyguycrazy101 He's using his John Blackwell Signature Snare from Tama. It's a Black steel shell, 6.5x13, and has a big white set of "JB"s on the shell.

  • i got sad when it started to fade out =[

  • Does anyone know what snare he's using?

  • This Guy should be named ''John BlackVeryWellGroove''

  • this guys pretty sick

  • I guess you have to black to get it??? sorry not very good.

  • Comment removed

  • well i suck.

  • Practice makes AWESOMENESS... Ahem.....(Excuse me)....EXCELLENCE.

  • yang bikin hebat bibirnya tuh, bibir memble

  • Master! my rEspect.

  • I need practice :l

  • This video also reminds me why I love K Zildjian's

  • no description available.

    word.

  • Chuck Norris has something to do with this...

  • nice grooves! i play metal and man this guy is amazing

  • why does this remind me of the drummer at the wrong gig?

  • 1:51 so funky

  • this guy has way too much groove, even for a black dude.

  • @06livefast That's cuz he does black well.

  • @TheLastJrummer no. black does him well.

  • what yuck haha I hate this snare sound! Like a piccolo

  • @HamerD Shut up this guy will take Dennis Chambers' job pretty soon. This was DOPE. Everything sounded good.

  • @eqsmooth Take Dennis Chambers' job? What does that even mean? Dennis Chambers isn't a street sweeper he plays random gigs all over with different people. If you are saying John Blackwell is on Dennis Chambers' level, I gotta disagree with you...although he is a wonderful drummer and way better than I will ever be haha!

  • @H You made a mean spirited, idiotic jab about this genius drummer's snare so I ripped you. Hating a snare sound? That is just dumb. He reminds me of Dennis & he IS all the rage so I popped you. I didn't mean he'd actually take his job, but Dennis is one the current ambassadors of drumming & ridiculously charismatic. Letterman's favorite on drum solo week. His MAIN gig is w/Santana. I mean how often can one actually see Niacin? You've reached your limit on haha's in comments. You're a goof off.

  • @eqsmooth I just said I dont like the snare!! Calm down kid

  • @HamerD Kid? You sound like Justin Bieber when you try that Mastodon shit. Ugly mutha fukka too.

  • @eqsmooth ok well first of all you upload a few videos :). Second I'm entitled to dislike a snare sound, there is nothing dumb about hating it. Third, I seriously don't even know why you're bringing Dennis Chambers into this. And I don't know what you mean about 'all the rage', John Blackwell has been cruising along for a long long time and this video is like 7 years old. As much as I like Blackwell, Dennis Chambers really is on another level. And you should chill out.

  • @HamerD Dude noone cares about you "hating the snare", if you don't have anything to say to explain this. I don't like apples, do we care?

  • @HamerD And as we can see here watch?v=4mqvWj0Gtb4, Dennis Chamber is not on another level, he is on the same level of mastering as Blackwell : the level were the preference between a guy and another guy is just pure subjectivity.

  • @Informatisse I have that video and have seen countless Chambers and Blackwell performances...I disagree that they are on the same level of mastering the drum set. Although I accept that there is a lot of subjectivity in music...you're plainly wrong if you say that Slash is technically on the same level as Guthrie Govan, even if he may play in a style you prefer. The same goes for Dennis and John, Dennis is really the cream of the crop, technically, but you maybe prefer Blackwell's style.

  • Incredible...loved it...Thank you for the post...

  • Jea Baby

  • KUNG FUUUUUUUUU !!! :o)

  • but the music sucks.in my opinion.

  • @soweyesee The music is acting as a framework for this solo, why does it suck it just light funk? This guy has one of the best musical flows and dynamics I have ever heard and its all effortless.

  • Holy shit that was freaking amazing. I wish I could drum half as good as this guy.

  • HE IS A BEAST i get some of my inspiration from him watch my video named lmo play drums behind his back

  • this guy is too good

  • Damn this is what you call groove... WOOO

  • This is the type of groove that'll make your ears cum.

  • I like the consistency of the cadence. Awesome performance.

  • ê , ocara toca muito parabéns

  • What a kit... Sound is amazing

  • alguém sabe onde posso baixar o modern drummer completo 2010

se quem sabe manda o link ai pra mim falo vwl galera

  • @TrSYeTi I'm just holding up a mirror to you

  • @TrSYeTi I bet you would play a lot better if you were him

  • @TrSYeTi I love the way they sound now! Of course they are on the tight side of tuning, granted they could be loosened as well. And that's all preference. But they all sound even to each other, and have a full tone with no harmonic unbalance.

  • Fills with Skills give the thrills....

but holding the groove, that pays the bills.

  • @nowadazeband Haha I've lived by that motto ever since I first heard it on Youtube. "Fills bring thrills but a groove pays the bills." Gotta love it!

  • @nowadazeband a sentence has never been that true ! lol

  • @nowadazeband I like that........I may have to cop that phrase

  • his kit sounds amazing

  • imo, i just dont see the point of stick twirling when playing a kit.. things like marching snare and all that, yes, twirl away, but a kit is the backbone of any band, and its just one more uneccesary thing that could mess you up :P anyone agree? (because i know alot will disagree lol)

  • @soldierside365 he doesnt play like this when he is playing behind someone this is for solo drumming purposes just like victor wooten isnt flashy at all when he plays with bela fleck but people know him for his flashy bass playing

  • @soldierside365 you are jealous cos you can't do, john is doing it and it also match with the music, hey bro you just have to learn your craft and use it and i mean no insult.

  • @judey2008

im not jelous remotley.. its showmanship. you dont watch music, you listen to it. you can go and watch people perform, but its about the music at the end of the day. i know you still probably wont agree, but atleast see where im coming from..

  • Blackwell is an incredible drummer. A little sloppy at times but has the one of the best chops and showmanship.

  • nice beats

  • chocolate..

  • The problem with Blackwell is he overplays nearly everything he engages.

  • @Easleytee he played the part well when he was on tour with justin timberlake

  • @Easleytee The only problem is that you think its a problem.

  • unreal

  • This drums sound amazing! Awsome playing

  • ok so i got here from a tony royster video.. and i gotta say.. uhm... anyways.. i think the snare's tuned a lil bit too high.. and no point in comparing jim blackwell with tony royster cause their both talented and both different drummers with different styles of playing..

  • @markaim23 Jim..?

  • @markaim23 Who is jim blackwell?

  • that chocolate face can really play!

  • Awesome drummer with a poo poo wimpy balless snare drum..Orville Redenbacher popcorn has more pop that that toy drum.. But the dude can play..

  • @rrdrums1952 couldnt resist that hate could ya jeff? LOL

  • @rhythmatist2013 What hate? Truth you mean? That snare sound is wimpy. And it sucks IMO. Where's the hate?

  • 1:47 the best time.....

  • oh... so that is what groove means... amazing

  • Okay,I quit drumming.

  • He's smoking Royster with ease.

  • how cool is this

  • 1:51 is amazing

  • @udflyer1991 idd. that's jaw dropping ankle work :s

  • @christraven I know, I'm not new. Jeff swears he's done trolling now.

  • AMAZING

  • Nice!!!

  • love the way he dances with his sticks

• This dude is bad to da bone..

  • Dennis Chambers and Steve Gadd had a kid. They let Mike Clark babysit, and the kid ran away to the circus to develop his act

  • If you can make ridiculous facts, so can everyone else on YouTube. You criticize my words and follow it your own supposed fact. Do u not see the hypocrisy???? You have provided 0 (ZERO) proof that you have any knowledge of music whatsoever, so why should anybody bother believing anything you say about drums, guitar, or anything because you are a compulsive LIAR

  • @rhythmatist2013 Being channeless has advantages?

  • @rrdrums1952 does being a prick to get your rocks off really satisfy your urge to spread hate? i don't give a crap about this channel. if i did id never bother talking to you. theres far better ways for me to spend my time, and certainly far better promotional opportunities than a youtube account. my bands already got several more gigs lined up thanks to our last show. got a compliment on my playing and professionalism from the sound guy as well.

  • @rhythmatist2013 Excellent.. keep it up..Stiil why channeless?

  • @rhythmatist2013 You must be new here. rrdrum is a known troll. Ignore him.

  • In fact every drummer on this planet whether I like them or not is better than you solely for the fact that they are not lying frauds who claim to be musicians like you claim everyday. U don't know the first thing about music you petty hate monger

  • @rhythmatist2013 is that supposed to be a fact or something?

  • I'm better than you also jeff. Meg white is better than u and she's horrible
