  • the NHS did it better no one in line compared to the us private for profit system

  • The bill has been passed HOORAY! Universal cheap healthcare for all!

  • Don't jump the gun. Only the House and Senate have passed separate bills. The real fight begins when they merge the two and vote on the result, which is likely to be neither universal, nor put limits on how much private insurers can charge you. Merry Christmas. :(

  • Hang on! The NHS may be free, but there are HUGE problems as well. It seems to me that both the American and British systems could learn from each other!

  • Actually, neither is exactly true. The NHS is paid for with taxes, so it shouldn't be labeled as "free" (if we included the cost of our insurance premiums in our taxes, the UK system costs about 60% less).

Second, according to my British friends, while the NHS isn't "perfect", their problems don't BEGIN to compare to the problems we have with the "pay or die" system we have in this country.

  • I'm referring to the money that is wasted within the NHS on things like repeat appointments for issues that never get resolved and merely lead being pushed around the system instead of being treated.

Don't get me wrong the NHS has many good points BUT it's far from perfect!

PS Big fan of your channel

  • From the Netherlands I can say:

NHS might not be perfect but value what you still have. Here our health system is going American, moneysuckers everywhere, survival of the fattest. We pay our privatised Health insurance more and more for less and less.

  • @ArmageddonAfterparty

    "Survival of the fattest"

    LOL.

Nice. Well I'm not sure how up to speed you are on the Conservative led coalition government we have here, but lots of people are concerned that the recession is being used by to finally dismantle and privatise the NHS.

  • @PurushaDesa

I'm afraid they'll succeed if you let them, this is going on throughout Europe, here in the Netherlands it's the army, handicapped, mentally ill, culture and science that are feeling the brunt of the propaganda driven austerity-measures. Worst thing is, loads of people believe it to be that or bust. To me, it's just propaganda, a way to line the pockets of the filthy rich, the crisis they initiated is the trigger, they want to stay fat and powerful, if it kills us all. Need coffee.

  • A free, efficient public healthcare system is one of the perks of civilization. Anybody who tells you otherwise is an enemy.

Yours, of your children, of your family, of your nation. Because he/she will shrug if your loved ones join the ranks of statistics of deaths from lack of medical care.

  • The American privatized run health care system is a joke. And blue dog conservative centrist corporate kiss ass Senate Democrats such as Mary Landrieu (LA), Blanche Lincoln(AR), Ben Nelson(NE), Kent Conrad(ND), Joe Lieberman (CT), and Evan Bayh (IN) can all go fuck themselves for not wanting to reform this dis-functional health care system in the United States. Oh yeah, screw congressional GOPer's as well for wanting to preserve this messed up privatized for profit health care system.

  • Harvey, Lieberman is a former Democrat gone Independent my friend. Other than that, your comment is accurate:)

  • If you have not done so yet please take a moment to sign the petition regarding chairmanships as it is very important to keep pressure on the senate. You can find the petition as well as a poll by Dick Durbin in the comment section of my profile. Sign and then pass it on to others. Thanks.

  • Smarty, Thanks for the vid my friend. It is very enlightening. I knew that UK and France have really good Healthcare systems. I'll message you the rest of my review. :)

  • Interesting vid. It certainly seems that the NHS are handling the situation well, most of the people I know with health conditions have now been vaccinated. The difference (according to ECDC) in the recorded per-case fatality rate between the US & UK is quite striking. US 2.3/100; UK 0.8/100, which would indicate that one is about 3 times as likely to die of H1N1 in the US. It is possible that this could be due to differences in data gathering.

  • I also think that the media has played a role, particularly the BBC. If you go to the BBC website >news >health >"fergus on flu" there is a very good source of information. I don't want to give the impression of being an ardent nationalist, which I'm not, but I get the feeling that the BBC and NHS are unambiguously better than their US equivalents.
