i mean its just staggering. such control over the instrument. i imagine whatever pops into his head he is able to play it straight away. rather then a lot of guitarists tend to string together licks from a sort of memory bank of licks in their head and put them together when improvising. guthrie has the rare ability to sort of play on instinct. the mans a living legend. and big thanks to rs66ld for these videos.

@jioann00 yeah its a hard thing to do but hardly anyone realizes that it is (or should be) the ultimate goal of any musician to get to that point. Most musicians just want to be better than everyone else and be ridiculously fast, or make everyone think they are cool because they play the instrument. that's why we don't see more players like this. everyone is focused on the wrong things.
ive seen ben live a few times as he studied at the same music college as me, and i hace to give him a hell of alot of credit, ive seen guthrie play too and i would shit myself if i had to jam with him
i know guthrie i amazing but id b pretty pissed if i was ben poole.... guthrie pretty much just soloed the entire time... was very musically friendly imo lol

Honestly, Poole has the upper hand in class here I think. He chose his 'words' more carefully but Guthrie was just saying all the longest words he could find. Guthrie is one of my favorite players but I would have rather seen him do that classy Beck-ish stuff he does, there's not enough examples of that here on YT.
Guthrie's being a little territorial here if you ask me. Even when it's Poole's turn to solo, Guthrie throws some monster licks into his rhythm playing to belittle him.
I think Ben and Guthrie are both fantastic players. That being said, something tells me Ben wasn't on his game that day. And I imagine playing with Guthrie could be very intimidating. I just think Ben was a little thrown off by Guthries monster playing.
guys we should give the guy kudos for even sitting down next to GG! Even Bumblefoot says GG is the best in the world..Dweezil Zappa says GG is the scariest guitarist on the planet. the guy did good-u cant even see his hands shaking..

from a technical view marshall harrison is better, just look at his videos.
musicaly there are tons of better musicians, but guthrie has still time to develop his unique style. at least 20 years for him to come...but to say whos best is not possible as music is relative
