@geuteaner Reason is a beginner's toy. Only morons and people who don't understand advanced production think it can compete with Ableton or FL Studio.
@KevinDolin ok this dude dosnt know how to make professional beats, but Big names like for e.g a dude made pretty much 50 Cents Curtis album using this software. FL studio is for beginners. This software is Huge
@juicebrad Name one thing Reason can do that FL or Ableton can't. I've asked this question to hundreds of Reason users and have never gotten a response.
Do you know why? There is nothing Reason can do that any other package can't but there are thousands of things other packages can do that Reason can't.
well yes and no Yes being said if you are using a soundblaster type card.. if you are using a 24bit-96 khz then you are good Trust me we ALL have trouble getting the bass to sound right qith the kick first question is what type of problems are you having with compression? and muddy mixes can be fixed definitely with some practice..as you know also what hardware do yu have i have a couple suggestions
whats the thor like to use? can never seem to get a good string sound i want out of subtractor or malstrom. always end up sampling my nord or supernova. i bought reason 3 because i dont want to spend shit loads on cubase plugins. anyone got any synth strings made with thor?
@markash1971 - translation: i can't program good sounds on my own, instead i buy expensive outboard gear for new soundsets. that's a pretty expensive way of purchasing "refills"! lol! lmao!
@markash1971 hey ya it does take a bit a tweeking i have a nord lead and a moog little phatty. i can get great sounds out of reason. It does take a bit of know how... you need to definitely know your shit. AFTER YEARS OF USING REASON I STILL LEARN newthings every day and am very surprised...still as far as synth strings ya it takes the thor and compression, reverb (usually a mix of 2 verbs) delay maybe, tape compression and eq but very possible to get good strings >u mac or pc?
@mynus303 i use pc mate. now ive started to use the combinator, im getting the sounds i want and my rack is looking a little more tidy lol, still having problems mixing bass. im putting my pc thru the same mixer, amp and moniters i use for hardware, but my reason mixes sound muddy, having problems with compresion too. just wandering if a better sound card will improve things?
ROMANporno69 the little boy with a big mouth. here you go, 2 tracks i made in the mid 90's for my deploma, before rebirth and reason. how dare you call my music shit when you only know reason and nothing but reason, i dont hate reason or the users, i only hate novice tossers like you who know nothing. bet you cant even play a musical instrument at a basic level. go back to your bedroom and play superstar DJ'S with your reason synths, if you know how to use them
*yawn* - listened to your dated material. again, pedestrian. like this mynus303 character says, "u need to practice more". take care and get at it. you're a little long in the tooth to be so mediocre at what you claim is a passion.
alot to say but nothing to show little boy. lets see what you can do. at least my outdated stale shit FROM the mid 90's is still 10 times better than what you can produce. come on, prove my wrong little boy
@markash1971 - what does "prove my wrong" mean? the fact that you're very average at making music and hide behind "technical difficulties" is proof in itself. you posting examples of your 90s crap is borderline delusional, but commendable in a sad sort of way. cheers. keep at it (only for fun, though).
i dont hide behind technical difficulties because i have none, not saying im perfect because im not, there is always something new to learn when making music, i just think the synths in reason are crap, no, not crap, just not for me. the point of posting my old tracks was to show you that i can put a track together in a real studio even if the music is crap, but it seems like its only you who thinks its crap. i learned to make tunes by Splicing Tape or using software. you learned using e jay
@markash1971 - if you can't program a suitable set of synth strings in "the thor" - lol, well, that MUST be because the program sucks. what a shithead. go make some shitty bossanova. casio is hiring. stay away from reason grandpa.
i have never even used the thor. i use reason 3 you fucking prick, stay the fuck out of my face you retarded wanker. propellerhead t shirt wearing fucking tosser
@markash1971 - slightly off topic, but this should piss you off sufficiently - i could make those stale, 90s lounge songs in reason virtually (pun intended) in days. three sessions TOPS. outdated. outmoded. blah. blah. blah.
you could never piss me off lol. corse the songs are outdated dumb ass, i made them over 15 year ago lol. i know for a fact you could never even make a track like this. i dont even like lounge music but i enjoyed making it. and yes it would be easy to make this track in reason, if you could play bass live and sing, but your just thick, bet you think A minor means little child, when are you going to give us an example of your musical wisdom?
why do you always avoid my question? you must have some tunes on your hard drive. otherwise, why buy reason if your not going to make tunes. i would like to hear them, its ok for you to give out shit, but not take it eh? prove me wrong. progressing from ejay to reason dont make you a music expert lol
this is my very last comment to you. im on here because im interested in what other people make and use and how they use that kit, not slate dicks like you. considering im shit, i love the fact that local bands use me for studio work, and i make about 3 to £4000 grand a year live mixing bands on stage or being a session bass player, not bad for a hobby. when do i get to hear some of your ejay music?
fuck sake man!! dont give a fuck if big names use reason, all im saying is this. if i use my nord etc, i can make a good sound in 5 mins, if i use subtractor, i have to combine it with shit loads of other stuff to get a good sound, subtractor as a stand alone synth is shit, even if big names use it
@TrojanThug - yeah, so the ASIO drivers can bugger out and, voila, you've wasted EVEN MORE time NOT making music. yay. cubase is a problematic, legacy-plagued fossil. good back in the day, but outmoded now.
you should put up some of your own original music before making so many negative claims about other people's songs.. you need some kind of foundation for your abundance of animosity.
i know you'll respond immediately to this post with some curse-word filled, semi creative, insult filled comeback that rips on the little you know about me and the one video of mine you listened to on my page.. but i hate to break it to you, i'm never coming back to this page.
actually if you are bad at engineering a proper sound then ya reason sunds stale. but when yu actually understand t LOAD your own samples...bass sounds...drums.. learn eq and proper compression. claude vnstroke uses reason..justin martin. Tom middleton and Aphex twin use it also. so basically u need to practice more
dont need to practice more mate, i know reason inside out like most music software. i only have a problem with the subtractor, the malstrom, and the little red reverb/ delay boxes, think they sound shit, the sterio mastering etc sounds shit too and the mixer compared with good hardware, redrum and nxtt are good tools. if i have to make a sound with the synths i have to combine loads of them to get what i want. come on, you have to admit that the malstrom kicks out some gritty nasty sounds
im not a preset boy, wouldnt dream or dare use reason presets, only use the basic drum presets now and then. cant see aphex twin using reason as a stand alone program. bet he's never used the reason mixer and reverbs in his music
i only use the basic cubase but gona get sx3 when i have a little more money. plugin novation sounds good, i still use the real bass station. gets a bit anoying setting all the nobs every time i turn it on i got to write all the settings on paper for every track lol. i mostly use redrum from reason. redrum is good for my 808 909 samples and the nxtt is ok saves me messing around with the s2000. i use dual screens. just getting a little sick of that reason sound
the synths in reason are limited, i been making music for years and find it hard to make a good original sound with a reason synth. im not a novice with this program, i been using it since it first came on the shelves starting with rebirth and reason1 and im a expert with analoge synths. need my hardware back. think the age of reason has passed, dont think it will ever become a pro studio tool. reason record sound promising for the bedroom artist?
@markash1971 - nope. you just suck and are foolhardy enough to displace all of your inadequacies onto a piece of (amazing) software, in a public forum no less. eeeediot.
yes your right mate i just suck. think we should tell all the big recording studios with expensive kit and all the top name bands that all they need is low budget software like reason 4, because its amazing. i was messing with synths before digital was even invented and built an anologe synth when i was 16 which i still use. reason synths has got its limitations . you think you know your way around a music studio because you play with reason lol. your the eeeediot mate lol
@markash1971 - you actually took the time to respond and defend yourself? i KNEW i was right! just keep practicing. well, maybe not, if you been hacking away this long with no success, then just let it go. maybe spot trains or something?
considering i have a deploma in music tech and 1 in electronics, and Jo Whiley has played 2 of my tracks on radio 1. nov 2007 and none of them was made with reason, what have you done?
@markash1971 - TECHNO BORG is rubbish. now i KNOW you're lying about skills. totally casio. hahaha. totally crap mastering on top of it all. sounds like a loser form the FM demo section! pedestrian.
i agree, techno borg is rubbish. its all made with reason, and i have no need to lie to little mouthy kids like you who have no tracks up, just to prove a point, ill upload some real tracks at weekend made with real gear. and im sure if you look up mash71 and radio 1 on the net you might find im not a bullshitting little boy like you, fool
there are loads of ppl on here who have made great music with reason, and good luck to them, just because i dont like subtractor or malstrom, dont mean i know nothing when in fact i know loads. loyal reason users like you think its the god of music production, because you know nothing else, your worse than Religous Extremists hounding down ppl who disagree with your views. seem as your a music expert, where are your tunes? umm! you dont seem to have any
i agree mate. im starting to get pissed off with reason, it just kills any ideas i have, i am now starting to struggle making any good sounds with the synths, never had this problem with hardware, plus you can spot a track made with reason a mile off. wish i never sold most of my hardware!!!
I think you're misinterpreting what people are saying. Many people who use FL Studio just plug in the VST's that they download and then dial in a preset. However, it is possible to "make your own sounds" with any software if you're creative enough.
Reason has presets too, but it is much easier to make your own sounds that sound very cool very quickly. I don't think people who say this are stupid, they are actually making a good point.
