  • FreeNAS ftw! 4x 1tb drives in Raid-z :)

  • you are simply adorable Chris! (to a gay man)....too bad youre straight :(

  • the power consumption and size of this device are what really shines, coupled with the stability, compatibility and ease of use that can only be provided by synology make this device a great little addition to any network. i replaced 2 windows boxes with this device and saved myself a ton of time

  • I spent $80.00 on a p4 system (Optiplex gx240) and another $100.00 on 1.5tb hdd and 200gig hdd (used) and install Windows Server 08... Hooked it up to my network.. messed with some settings.. And it works perfect. Saved me Some cash.. Lol whatever floats your boat i guess.

  • i recommend readynas? it works very well!

  • This is probably a dumb question (especially if you consider that I'm a Computer Science university student!), but what is the point of server OS'es in terms of home use? As a MSDNAA member I can get Windows Home Server 2008 for free, but I don't get what its needed for.

  • Hey, thanks for the heads up on this product. I plan on getting the DS209+II in about a month to handle the company's file serving needs until we can purchase our xserve!

  • Genius by birth ...

    Slacker by choice :P

    I like using FreeNAS ^_^

  • how many HDD ?

do you use PCI - IDE card ?

  • I just replaced my ReadyNAS NV+ with a ReadyNAS Pro. I like the ReadyNAS but they are expensive. So look if you can get a good deal at eBay. Thats where I got my RNDP6350 for 855EUR instead of 1500EUR (the cheapest regular internet store).

  • Im still using a QNAP TS 209 PRO II

    Its great... very stable too.

  • I am using ThinClient + Laptop hardrive running debian Linux. :P

No noise and low power consumption.

  • The most important thing is your data DUDE!

Some of these NAS devices have been having lots of problems with rebuilding arrays.

Another one is CPU power. Don't expect too much from these devices in terms of horsepower.

Most of those features are pretty standard now.

  • to je tak prtavý ze bych na to urcite slap

  • I just bought the DS107 but it hasn't arrived yet. Anyway, this presentation was entertaining!

  • I use a linux box, simply because of the access control utilities such as samba.

  • my setup is my hp dx2300 with the files in shared files... and the users access through my network places...

  • My Infrant ReadyNAS (now owned by Netgear) is awesome......

  • Adair will love this

  • 1TB Time capsule anyone?

  • yeah i was thinking about the time capsul but maybe one of theses will do

  • Chris, would you say this is way different than an external hard drive..or is it similiar, just compatible for more than one computer, or should i just say for a whole network?

  • I just used an old Mac G3 with a sonnet G4 card filled with a bunch of 500GB drives.

  • My Book World. Supports all that (of course you have to know/be a linux freak to enable it all, but it's possible :D )

  • mine is just an old computer (running headless) using open source software

  • has anyone got a website running on one of these?

  • Check out the D-Link DNS-323. Supports 2 3.5" sata hard drives with RAID1 and quick drive swapping without drive cages. I like knowing that if a drive crashes I don't loose any data. I've been using one for about 10 months and have no complaints. The DNS-323 also has a ton of features like web and media server stuff.

  • Mine, 2GHz mac mini with 2 gig ram & 120 hard drive : p

  • Fileserver = 500MHz AMD K6-2 system, 256MB PC100 with SATA RAID card :P

  • Sweet video and macs do not have ESATA?

  • i like ur jew hat. watch out or borat might grab u by your horns and throw u down a well.

  • Nice !! i have a windows server enterprise but i want a nas storage because i thinkj it´s the ultimate to have in networks at home to storage music drivers moveis etc and that it reacheble for all computers and it have good performance to

  • fuck that linkses

  • On Touch USB... Mmm Maxtor wont like that :)

  • it sounds like...... You download music and movies via bit torren \ oses not including liuix

  • That'd be "NAS" with an "S"...it is not "NAZ".

  • That was fastest ever unboxing :o.

  • It's small, and yet really powerful. Some of the features on there is not applicable in the Mac Pro, and is huge. Good choice, Chris.

  • sub 4 sub?

anyway, i have time capsule much better chris!

maybe the price is better for you.

but time capsule is way better.

    please respond to my comment

  • He already has a Time Capsule. He has two videos on it: an unboxing and an installation vid.

The Time Capsule sits behind his Tix clocks btw.
