This is not how it is shown in another video you have The first strip is the long strip making the long vertical part of the T then after fixing to the mat you add the top of the T... well I think it was one of your videos, any how I think its better as you have less tape along the edge allowing more moment for the photo.
You are correct. Either way is essentially fine so long as the artwork is "hinged" into the opening of the mat.
