As a Purdue Alumni one thing is missing. The university does not have a music program. All of the students that are in the band are volunteering. Keep up the good Boilermakers. (1993/2003)
My goodness, they are a wonderful group, but have you seen the Ohio State Marching Band, they might be just a tad better. LOL. They call them the best damn band in the land, wonder why?
Yeah, but the OSU band has no fun. They just stand their like a bunch of drones lol. Believe me, I know - I was in the AAMB at Purdue and actually went to the shoe to watch those robots. They're mentally insane.
Um, I hope you realize that almost every marching band uses that slogan. Not just OSU. And I've heard OSU's band before... seems like the only song they know how to play is their fight song. Borrrrring!!! Ugly uniforms too.
Yeah AAMB!!! and Purdue Drumline! The drum line and band sound great, the uniforms look awesome, and you have the worlds biggest drum! I cant wait to see what I look like in that uniform next year!
340 members. The Big Ten allows only 340 to be performing on the field at any given time I'm fairly sure. There are actually 355 or so in the band, but there are always alternates and they change from show to show.
thats cool I'm in Fresno States Marching Band. We have 270 members and were hoping to hit 300 next year. It would be cool if we did. Well thats awsome and thats one huge band. love it.
Ahh, we have a newbie who's never seen a marching band who is expected to play any of 40-60 songs at any time. The AAMB is way beyond merely changing one song each week for halftime. Welcome to life in the Big Ten! (LMAO)
Um there was some type of sporting activity involving a football. I think it was your homecoming too. Oh well the band must not have been there I guess.
Marching without the music doesn't make the band any better. There are plenty of good bands out there that play with music in front of them. In fact, since they get to use the music, they can spend more time concentrating on the marching.
Unless you're a slacker you should practice your music long enough until you can play it without even thinking. Without any mental processing. You just do it. Then you can concentrate on marching. I personally practice for at least 1-2 hours a day. If you put the time in then you don't need to march with music. EVER.
I apologize, OutletEntertainment. I guess through all the homework and studying that I had to do in college, I just wasn't able to always allocate that much "free time" to practicing my music. I'm sorry for slacking away the lesser important part of college and concentrating primarily on my degree. Damn me to hell! Even though I have my degree, I regret taking away practice time to study for all my exams.
Besides, if you really want to nit-pick it - I had the pre-game show completely memorized in my head because of the fact that we played it every game. The halftime show music was different every week, so we only had one week at a time to learn new music. Next time I'll make more of a conscious effort to pissing away any work or study time I may require. Thank you for enlightening me.
Oh lord the Purdue marching band is huge! and amazing! Id be too afraid to swing my trumpet around like that though.

Actually I'm in the Centerville Jazz band. AND WE MAKE FINALS AT NATS EVERY YEAR. And yes we memorize all our music.

Centerville High School? We were there last week. Our whole band practices 1-2 hours a day.
divad1123 4 years ago
We practice from about 3 a day except mondays and sundays. And we didn't host anything last week so I don't know why you'd be there.
