Is the original as shot by NDR at Theater am Besenbinderhof in 1963. This lip is as close t the original 1920's scetch written by British author Lauri Wylie. There are in total 5 versions, but only very slight in difference

Why is it un-PC to criticise this sketch? I mean, it's just a British music-hall slapstick routine from the 1920's- it's not sacred (or even all that good). Would you want to watch the Parrot Sketch or Mr Bean in his car at the same time every New Year's Eve?

Japan every year, and they watch it VOLUNTARILY, there are even Clubs which have formed to meet every year and have absolute fun about this marvellous short skit.

The Quality of Life is about the moments we laugh, thats what we hope will will remember.

I can't really understand why the Germans love this one so much. At least they get a good idea of the Lancashire accent (we don't all speak cut-glass, Cockney or Scots in Britain).

Have we (the British) really done so little of comedic note that the Germans resort to showing this year after interminable year? It's good for a 1920's end-of-the-pier show (same procedure, nudge nudge wink wink?), but please, move on!

It's not about the accent or that the Brits have done so little in comedy. This is just timelessly funny. Both actors did such an awesome job on this. Most of all, by now it is a tradition to watch this on New Year's Eve in Germany. It's meant to be pure fun and remind us to celebrate life right up until the end :-). Cheers!

In Norway, we can watch it on christmas (24. december) It's funny, but we don't have it in colours, the white and black reminds me (a 15 year old girl) to love christmas...you should try acting like your drunk! It's funny.

Me and a couple of teens is making a drama show in february (we met thanks to a couple who is actors) . It's about parties and being drunk. IT'S DAMN FUNNY!!!!!! xD

A couriosity is, that the Sketch is almost unknown in England. There s also version, made by Swiss Television, but in England it is almost unknown. There are several versions made by different european TV Companies, but in England, its almost unknown. The Colored Version can only be seen at German Local Brodcaster NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk), in the other local programmes, you can only see the black and white version.
