The claim was that he was a threat to the UN relief effort in Somalia. However, the US and European allies did not state their plan was to remove Aidid but the Somalis soon concluded there were arterial motives to US troop presence in Somalia.
Mohamed Farrah Aidid was not a positive force for Somalia but he was no more a "war criminal" as Bush and Cheney. As a general, when he opposed Somali president, Mohamed Siad Barre, this cast Somalia into a downward hell from which it has not recovered. The US and allies intervention made the situation even worse.
At least 5 years ago, the US should have insisted on elections in Somalia so the Somali people could determine leadership in the Transitional Government.
See that's the thing. Aideed was a General, Cabinet member, Ambassador and an Intelligence officer, all under Siad Barre. When he got out of prison, he wasn't the one who "overthrew" the government, there were a number of factors, including the SSDF and SNM. The only reason he became the figure he was, was due to his clan being from Mogadishu. When he should have taken over and united Somalia, he told his supporters to kill their friends and neighbours because of tribalism.
True, there were several other factors, along with General Aideed. It did devolve down to tribalism, something Siad Barre had kept in check when he was president. Barre's mistake was trusting the Soviets and then the US during the war with Ethiopia in the mid-70s. The war consumed lots of Somali resources. Let's not forget that the US and Soviets switched sides in supporting Somalia and then supporting Ethiopia. We wish, pray and work towards peace in the region.

Wisdom teaches that there is a difference. Wisdom comes through experience and experience comes with time, and time brings age. When I was a young man, I thought as a young man and some of those thoughts were foolish but appeared wise to me then. You too must travel that path.
I don't play games. I can speak of death at a level relative to black people that would make your mind spin. Growing up in Mogadishu isn't the worse thing that can happen to a young man.

AfriSnergy. masacaring villages killing over 290 iinocent people, raping woman and children, kidnaping children is no small problem my friend. That is what Uganda rebel group known as Lord's Resistance Army did 2 months ago, and major news didnot reported it the way they reported the Kampala bombing. Speaking of blow up, I dont see no difference between getting blew up by African mercinarie's Katyusha rockets in Muqdisho restaurant or alshabaab's suicide bomber in Kampala restaurant.

I'm aware of "Lord's Resistance Army" within Uganda. When it does similar things to those committed by members of al Shabaab, it is not good.
You see no difference between mass murder because you either have not be taught to see or you have rejected such teachings. Again, I'm sure you wouldn't want your family blown up while eating at a restaurant or watching soccer.

There is Uganda rebel in Uganda, and they kill people, rape woman and children. How can Uganda can keep "peace" in Muqdisho when they canot defend their people from LRA group?. President of Uganda want to "eliminate" Alshabaab, but he canot eliminate LRA group in his own backyard. They are here in Muqdisho for money, and those african mercinaries troops dont want to see Muqdisho enjoying peace. If there is peace in Muqdisho, they will loose their paycheck from USA.

At one time, your statement about the warlords would have been credible but no longer. Al Shabaab leaders are the warlords now. If there is peace in Mogadishu there would be no need of paycheck from any foreign country. Somalis are very resourceful and could rebuild the country but without much of the nonsense promoted by the leaders within al Shabaab.
I'm sure you would not agree if someone blew you up while eating at a restaurant, would you?

AU troops killing innocent people for money? No, I do not agree. Al Shabaab's leadership is not good for the Somali people and most Somalis know it. The primary control is Mogadishu. Many of the areas outside of Mogadishu is not under al Shabaab or the Somali government's control and almost all are usually more peaceful than Mogadishu. A group that admits to blowing up restaurants and soccer fields cannot be admired or praised.

AfriSynery. I was in Muqdisho few months ago. Flag is the last thing anyone would talk about flag in Muqdisho. I dont know why you obsess with this flag. People are dying over there every day, and you are more concern about piece of sheet. African mercinaries soldiers backed by USA are killing innocent people every day. However, rare it is, in Mogadishu, when the people gather to celebrate Somalia's rich history they have the national flag. In the US, flag is not the first thing people want to talk about. He told my dad the light blue of Somali flag color represent the appreciation of UN because they "free us" UN flag is a light blue same as Somali flag. I have nothing to do any flag praising UN. He also said the five stars represent five Somali. There is only one Somali, so this stars represent division.

Within almost every country of the world, there are groups and subgroups that make up a federation. The 5 stars of Somalia represented those groups (tribes and areas). There is nothing wrong with that. The stars in the US flag represents the states but the flag represents unity, a federation. Somalia needs unity.

You should become more accustomed to talking about Somalia with non-Somalis. Somalis have now spread all around the world. Your parents, most likely, brought you to the West when you were younger. You will learn many things being around other cultures, both good and bad. You must also have the courage to let go of that which does not work, this includes some tribal hatreds. The Somali people, generally, are a great people and they must work together for peace and growth.

AfriSynergy. No need to lie. Alshabaab leader was speaking Somali language when he claimed this bombing. He also recited Somali poetry his message. He said some hadiths and quran. Itis not arabic language. May be your "somali friend" is feeding you with a wrong information. Even if he speak arabic, itis our second language, and many somalis speak arabic. He is not like the president of Uganda who was speaking broken english with his nation after this bombing.

The bottom line is that - just as the bombings carried out under Bush/Cheney in Somalia was dead wrong and terrorism, so too are these bombings in Uganda that spokespersons for al Shabaab claim they carried out. As I said a few years ago, the Somali people must decide what government they want and who their leaders will be, not foreign entities.

The objective was to destabilize Somalia because of its immense strategic importance where much of the worlds shipment by sea occurs. The US is working on establishing what they want as a permanent military base in Africa called Africom, currently in Germany.

The claim was that he was a threat to the UN relief effort in Somalia. However, the US and European allies did not state their plan was to remove Aidid but the Somalis soon concluded there were arterial motives to US troop presence in Somalia.

Mohamed Farrah Aidid was not a positive force for Somalia but he was no more a "war criminal" as Bush and Cheney. As a general, when he opposed Somali president, Mohamed Siad Barre, this cast Somalia into a downward hell from which it has not recovered. The US and allies intervention made the situation even worse.
At least 5 years ago, the US should have insisted on elections in Somalia so the Somali people could determine leadership in the Transitional Government.

See that's the thing. Aideed was a General, Cabinet member, Ambassador and an Intelligence officer, all under Siad Barre. When he got out of prison, he wasn't the one who "overthrew" the government, there were a number of factors, including the SSDF and SNM. The only reason he became the figure he was, was due to his clan being from Mogadishu. When he should have taken over and united Somalia, he told his supporters to kill their friends and neighbours because of tribalism.

True, there were several other factors, along with General Aideed. It did devolve down to tribalism, something Siad Barre had kept in check when he was president. Barre's mistake was trusting the Soviets and then the US during the war with Ethiopia in the mid-70s. The war consumed lots of Somali resources. Let's not forget that the US and Soviets switched sides in supporting Somalia and then supporting Ethiopia. We wish, pray and work towards peace in the region.
