That horn was MASSIVE AND LOUD!! Today's sucks!!
Thats what happens when goalies try to go behind the net in pressure situations. They get fucking decked like everyone else... like they should... bahaha. GO BLUES
Absolutely BRUTAL how cheap Belfour's little acting job was. No wonder the Blues didn't let him stick around more than a year in their minor league system.
It might have taken 6 years but I'm sure Belfour got over this non-call against Hull when he benefitted from an even worse non-call against Hull when they were teammates.
Belfour was the last generation's Luongo. They're both headcases, but at least Belfour won a Cup with the Stars. Growing up, Belfour was always my favorite player and the one I watched when the Hawks imploded and traded all of their stars away; triggering the Dark Ages of the Blackhawks. Later on in life, once I didn't have so much teenage angst, I realize that Belfour really needed some therapy. He could have won a few more Cups if he kept his head on straight.
i was at the cardinal game when this happened and they showed it on the jumbotron and the ballpark just erupted, what a unique experience to witness that at busch stadium, AWESOME!!
@MookieSays1Love Geez, hockey is still a tough sport, there are no "pussies", just those guys that like to take dives LOL. Still one of the most physical sports today, why people think hockey has gotten "pussy", I just don't understand. Do you actually WATCH hockey anymore, or you just give up on it altogether & just make assumptions about hockey nowadays without actually watching the games anymore. Because I think a lot of people are doing that now, which is stupid IMO.
I was at this game also...it was unbelievable. Never before or since have I heard a louder crowd at a sporting event than I heard that day. There was nothing like being a Blues fan during that time...and nothing like seeing a game at the Old Barn!
man, it seems like those goalies dont take up as much room in the nets. smaller pads i guess. thats what i think it should still be like now. goalies have such big equipment nowadays. its rediculous. in those smaller pads, goalies have to work harder to make a save which i think makes for better goaltending. IOP
That would be called as interfering with the goalkeeper today. Even if he is out of the crease, you can't check the goalie if he doesn't have the puck. He blocked Belfour's path back to the goal.. interference. From the look of it, those refs weren't that great throughout the whole game.
hmm. both joseph AND belfour were in that game! and later they both went and played on the same team! the TML and if im not mistaken they were on there at the same time??? could be wrong.
I was @ this game...I was 6 yr old and I'll never forget this game..it was the wildest game everyone was going nuts @ the old arena most people had brought brooms to the game but the thing I'll remember most about this game is when the Blues would have the puck on offense the whole stadium chanted BEEELLLFOOOUUUR!!! BEEEELLFOOOUUR!!!! And it seemed to really distract him as you can see from 3:05 to 3:11 and by the end of the game you could tell Belfour just wanted to get the hell out of there.
I remember that bullshit goal. Belfour gets hit behind the net, and the Blues win the series. He is fair game outside of the net, but what a shitty way to win a series. I would have smashed my stick too!
Ya I agree. But then why did he go out of his net like that when there were clearly his own team mates already there. Bad call on belfour and terrible officiating.
I like these Blues jerseys. I figured when they went to the Edge jerseys, they would base them on these or the '67 ones, like the team that went to the Final three straight years. Their third jerseys' color and striping remind you of them a little bit, but a full jersey helps too.
Blues best season, in their storied history. They are off to yet another fantastic showing. The word rebuilding has been used synonomous with Blues for the past 20 years. I'm sick of following them
@tegean2000 not like it wouldve made a difference in the end. plus Belfours baby tantrum made it all the sweeter. somehow makes me feel better that hawk fans still get upset about getting their asses handed to them. makes my day, thanks.
They used to play home & home games; Sat night at the Arena, Sun night at the Stadium. There would be a good 2,000 hawks fans sitting behind the Arenas south goal; they would sound like 10,000. If you were lucky enough to get tickets for the Sun night game at the Stadium they would cost big bucks; a couple hundred blues fans max in attendance. I remember climbing all those steps to the 2nd balcony our first trip there and hearing that organ for the first time should have moved it to the UC.
The blues/hawks rivalry in the 80's early 90's was as good as it gets. The Arena could get just as loud as the Stadium; I saw games at both. Two loudest in hockey houses in NHL history. Fans were closer to the ice in the Stadium due to the tiered opera -house design and the small rink. Plus they had that pipe organ cranking all game. The Arena was just a loud acoustical nightmare; the noise would bounce around off the dome. I remember weeknight games with 13,000 would sound like 20,000.
let's get it right peeps, that was not roenick who tripped hull. That was Bryan Marchment. And that was still interference. In regulation, you call maybe shouldn't call it, but it should have definitely been called in ot with the hawks season on the line.
Watch the Hawks defenseman stick his skate out to try and trip the Blues player who knocks Belfour down. I guess that's what you get for interference.
It was Brett Hull crashing into Belfour...and you are correct....Roenick tripped him. Besides the fact in those days a goalie was actually "fair game" if he was behid the nest.
I can see where Belfour is coming from on that play, he was completely dumped beside the net by an opposing player and it made it impossible to get back in time, NO GOAL!
man did I hate cujo. You could always count on him to stumble at the worst possible time. Great regular season goalie but his post season play was always a liability. Wasn't upset when he left. Belfours hissy fit was pretty funny, I forgot all about that. Nice post.
even tho now he is in sweden he would not play another game in st louis except a playoff game in 1999 when turek surrendered a 4-0 lead he came and the crowd chanted Belllll Four!
If you notice before the blues won the cup. One of the Blues players ran into Belfour, and thats the only reason why St. Louis won.
That shouldn't be fair because when another player from the opposite team runs in the goaltender and the team scores, it should of been a NO GOAL!!!!!!!!!!
the blues were actually a decent team in the 90's, with the likes of Joseph, Shanahan, and Hull. I think the only reason rivalries were started was because of the old division playoff format instead of the 1-8 seeded teams in each conference. i'll admit, belfour was a hothead, but he was a great goaltender. Hence the winner of the calder, two vezinas, one stanley cup, 4 william m jennings trophies, 3rd all time in wins, and 9th all time in shutouts
you mean the guy who made the hit or the guy who got hit? the hitter is Jeremy Roenick. the guy who got hit was #44, but pronger didnt play for the blues intil the season after this one.
I just don't understand how the the refs let a series be decided like this. This is an elimination game for the Blackhawks, and the goal that beats them was set up by Hull running through Belfour. I'd like to see what would happen if Lundqvist or Fleury were run over like this in an overtime playoff game. And trust me had this game been at the stadium, those refs would not have made it out of their alive.
how would you jerk blues fans feel if the same thing happened to CuJo? you'd still be whistling the same tune? bullshit. it was a cheap goal and its the only reason the blues won...some cheap shot 'cause belfour was shutting them out...
Just like he shut them down in the first three games right? The Blues outplayed them pretty badly. They deserved to lose. Granted that goal shouldn't have counted, it was inevitable.
No. Belfour was just a really competitive guy. If not for Belfour the Hawks wouldn't have been nearly as good. He belongs in the hall of fame, which is more than can be said about that hack Curtis Joseph (the 2nd losingest goalie of all time)
um, i dont mean to come down on you, but Cujo is the 4th most winning goalie in Nhl history, having about 100 more wins than losses. the only reason he has so many losses is because he played so many games. same with other greats like sawchuck.
Joseph was a great goalie with the Blues and Oilers, and his first two years with the Leafs. At that point he had built his legacy but went slolwy downhill from there. Everyone still loved him after that and most didnt realize how bad he was getting, including Ken Holland. I predicted Joseph wouldn't finish his contract as a starter with the Red Wings, and I was right!
Also he should have retired 6 or 7 years ago and then maybe he wouldn't be the 2nd losingest goalie ever
Belfour has 2 Vezina trophy's, Joseph has none. Belfour has a Stanley Cup, Joseph does not.
Joseph was a great goalie in his prime for a short period of time, but Belfour had an outstanding career. Belfour is a sure fire Hall of Famer, Joseph is debateable.
belfour and cujo were both good goalies. belfour may have a few vezinas, but cujo was close to getting one or few. as for belfour winning a cup, cujo for most of his career was on teams that really couldnt support him, yet he played fantastic
as a Blues fan, this was a great win. i was happy to see this game footage as I have heard about this game and wanted to see it for myself. Belfour had a legitimate beef there for interference. To this day, the only games Belfour started against the Blues in St. Louis were playoff games.
I remember watching this series was like watching death by strangulation. For all their regular-season success the Hawks were a one-line team offensively, basically. They should have won games 1 (2-goal lead late in the 2nd period) and 2 (47 shots on goal) in the Stadium. Curtis Joseph was the main factor in the series, I think.
"This clip is taken directly from the NHL Network and the game footage has no commentary, most likely a raw camera feed and the only video available as this is a rare clip."
Poor Blackhawks. Why is it that in Belfour's 2 40-win seasons in 91 and 93, the Hawks bowed out in the first round. His best seasons with us were wasted by poor playoff performances. I do think Belfour did have a legitimate beef there on that overtime, however. Hull could have missed him, but he decided to go right through him. That's interference anyway you look at it. But oh well.
I like how the audio decreases right after they score, which also lowers the sound of the massive foghorn that used to be blasted. That things vibrations would be felt in your chest- I know I was there this series (and unfortunately also Toronto's that followed), and that horn was so freakishly loud that the thing would be heard ACROSS Oakland Ave (the street it sits on), keep in mind this is a 1920's STONE building that was VERY, VERY THICK!! Both are Hall of Fame goalies.

@antropov80 As a matter of fact, for all of Curtis Joseph's accolades,he had never even participated in the Stanley Cup Final during his long career.

belfour and cujo were both good goalies. belfour may have a few vezinas, but cujo was close to getting one or few. as for belfour winning a cup, cujo for most of his career was on teams that really couldnt support him, yet he played fantastic

WHAT!?! That was totally interference. Good to Eddie for telling the ref whats up. As a goalie, I cant stand that. Open your eyes ref!!

as a Blues fan, this was a great win. i was happy to see this game footage as I have heard about this game and wanted to see it for myself. Belfour had a legitimate beef there for interference. To this day, the only games Belfour started against the Blues in St. Louis were playoff games.

Yeah seriously, that is pretty obvious interference on the game winning goal.

Belfour had a legit case there.

i don't remember the source but its true dude that statement was made by Eddie the Eagle.

For Belfour going crazy, on Wikipedia they said he broke a tv, coffee maker and a hot tub and he would never start another game in St Louis.

"never start another game in St Louis."
Huh?
cfb30 3 years ago
Ha ha, this was on a few days ago. He also broke a hot tub, a coffee maker, & a TV in the visitor's locker room. Probably should've been disallowed.

Where are the announcers?
I don't hear anyone calling this game.

The answer is in the description:
"This clip is taken directly from the NHL Network and the game footage has no commentary, most likely a raw camera feed and the only video available as this is a rare clip."

Poor Blackhawks. Why is it that in Belfour's 2 40-win seasons in 91 and 93, the Hawks bowed out in the first round. His best seasons with us were wasted by poor playoff performances. I do think Belfour did have a legitimate beef there on that overtime, however. Hull could have missed him, but he decided to go right through him. That's interference anyway you look at it. But oh well.

Because they had a team with the makeup of players that played with alot of heart,I miss this hockey era no doubt.

I was there, 4th row on Belfour's glove side. My favorite memory as a kid!

I was there, second row at the very top, directly behind Belfour ... I sure miss the 'ol barn. :-(

Typical BlackHawks. Gutless.

As much as I love Belfour seeing him go crazy like that made me cry with laughter.
