Can you explain the purpose for it not really being a "quilt", i.e. why it has the footbox and how it is supposed to be used. I thought the purpose of down hiking quilts was to create a lighter insulation layer to use as a blanket that will keep you just as warm as a sleeping bag (because the compressed down you lie on top of in your bag doesn't do much to keep you warm).
Hi, my g/f and I are preparing to make our own top bag or quilt because of the ridiculous mark-up from most sites. I was wondering if you followed any guide or instructions, if so could you point us in the right direction? We are noobies with the needle so the more detail the better!
Yeah there area a few instructions around on the net. You can find them through forums etc. Drop me a email through my website link on the youtube home page and I can send some info and notes that I kept when I made the on in the video.
Cheers. Yes I use it for backpacking in chili weather either in my hammock on sleeping on the ground. It weighs 855 grams. Add a bit more for the stuff sack and silk liner that I use with it.

@nsiderbass
I prefer my footbox to come up a little higher then some of the others that are on the market.

I am googling around today--I want to make something like this. The Cuben looks a bit expensive, but the ripstop looks OK. Thanks for the info.
