Nicely done. I like Kurt's work on this. I always felt this version of The Guess Who was a faux band, since they didn't sound like them. However, this is a good song. Donnie is a good singer. I woyld have liked to hear live music from this Guess Who, it sounds like they'd be good live. Thanks for the images.
"The original will always be THE Guess Who but I'm glad they carried on after Bachman left!"
Yeah, but you've got to admit the version with Burton was pretty good too. Although Burt wasn't on the first two albums and the first big hit "Shakin' All Over", he helped make the band the legend that it is. And yes he had to sing Chad Allan's hit "Shakin' All Over" a few times.
Donnie's accent to the throne is fairly legit considering Burt's was so similar.
But when Burt and Randy wanted to use the name, Kale wouldn't let them and he was able to stop them because he had registered the name.
If Chad Allan wanted to use the name and Kale said no, he couldn't use it either.
If this band were alive and touring, I would care to see them. Now let Chad join them .... "Turn around and walk away, that's what I'm gonna do, if you ever hurt me. If you find another love, you see, it won't bother me. I'll just turn around and walk away ...."
KURT WINTER R.I.P. Long live his guitar playing. Of all the great guitar hero`s in the band, he was the most tasty. Would of loved to hear Cummings croon this one.
a great band saw them in adelaide south australia in 1973 on tour with the three dog night still love there songs and still think the line up then was the best. I,ve never heard this track before but still has their sound and I think it is really good
good song if it wasn't under the name The Guess Who. i'd say this would've been excellent for some local band but to put this out under the guise of the classic hitmakers they were is unfortunate.
Guess Who's Back was a really good album - the songs were good - especially "Never Trust A Chorus Girl" - and Kurt Winter's guitar playing was superb.
There was a U.S. release of All This For A Song which was a compilation of some songs from Guess Who's Back and All This For A Song. With The exception of "Plastic Paradise", most of All This For A Song is poor, largely due to the absence of Kurt Winter.
Anything named The Guess Who minus Kurt Winter or Burton Cummings is in my opinion not valid.
I bought Guess Who's Back and All This for a Song in 78-79. C'mon Little Mama was played quite a bit on Canadian stations. Thought that Donnie's vocals were excellent, and I believe it was a legitimate Guess Who lineup. Too bad Kurt wasn't on the second album. Saw them at the Hotel California (on Jarvis St.?) in Toronto promoting the All this for a Song album. Probably about 100 people in the place, and someone yelled 'Where's Burton?' Donnie answered "At his mansion in L.A.".
saw them at the CNE in 73, with kurt winter on lead. brilliant! fortunately i was able to catch the guess who with bachman many years later also in toronto. with dominic troiano, this group has had more guitar heroes in its lineup than any band i know. bachman said cummings is in the top 10 lead vocalists in history. no exaggeration there, but i put randy in the top 10 guitarists as well.
Been a big Guess Who fan for decades now. I have albums both "pre" and "post" Cummings days. "Raisin' Hell,..." all things considered was a decent tune. Nothing more and nothing less. Extremely hard to carry on the tunes that Bachman and Cummings once wrote. Their hey-day was when Bachman was part of the band, thanks to Cummings ability to write great tunes. Nonetheless, they're still at it. Thanks for posting this one!
Yes they're legit. They've got the pedigree. Now to find the original Brother version of "Rock and Roller Steam" with the "Runnin' Back To Saskatoon" riff. Or is that just a legend?
The original will always be THE Guess Who but I'm glad they carried on after Bachman left! they've had such diversity and talent! Winnipeg should be proud! I know I sure's hell am!!
OMG I haven't heard this song in forever!! I wouldn't know where to find it. This was my favorite post-Cummings line-up of The Guess Who. Too bad this line-up didn't last. Great song!!!! Thanks for posting!!
THIS IS THE GUESS WHO! I OWN THE CD.

I "wouldn't" care to see them.
I don't usually correct my typos but on this one ....

Once Winter and Donny were out,
Kale's personell picks just got silly.

At least here, you have a real Guess Who feel, Donny actually did sing some
lead when Cummings was in the band,
The style and sound are right, and the
players are pretty legit Winnipegers.
Still not the real thing or the A" game,
but you can live with this version.

Not THE Guess Who, but very close.
A fairly legit lineup,but Burton's absence
is still pretty significant. Keep in mind
that except for Domenic Troiano, the GW
are purely a "Peg" band.

Randy, Burton, Jim, Garry = Best lineup. The Way They Were Album is one of the best, albeit forgotten albums, by the original lineup.

Sorry, Kale not Wallace is in this group. Won the Guess Who name in a poker game or something eh? Good song.

One of these days I ought to pick this up. The McDougall/Wallace songs on Artificial Paradise were really good, this doesn't sound much different.

All this tune is missing is Burton. Always loved the Cummings/Winter combo, wish they had done more together.

Well, to me the Guess who is not the Guess who without Burton Cummings.
I have to admit, however, that this is a great song! :)
