  • In celebration of my eighteenth birthday, I went with my high school boyfriend to CBGB's where we saw Talking Heads when they were still just a trio. I wish I could remember a lot more of their set, but I don't. That's because it was before they'd put out a generally available record, and I had nothing with which to be familiar. But I'd read about them and wanted to see them more than any other band at the time. I'm glad I made the effort to keep insisting upon seeing them that night.

  • 4:02 is so, SO funny.

  • This clip is taken from a documentary that was aired in 1984 on channel 4 in the U.K. It contained an assortment clips of talking heads from different periods and combined them with clips that relate to the lyrics (such as preachers and t.v. evangelists). The program contained some fantastic footage of a concert at Wembley Arena in 1982,much of which can also be found on youtube.

  • This video would be so much better if it didn't mix all of the performances together.

  • WOW! Thanks for posting this video. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • I hate that these guys hate each other now... the world is so much worse off without them out there doing their thing.

  • byrne...very nicely invented persona....do you think he acts like this when the cameras weren't running?

  • @earinsound or very drug-addled self-delusion? whatever it was, it worked for creating some good tunes, wouldn't you agree?

  • does no one else astounded by how wildly fried-eyed Byrne is in most of the clips, especially 2:32

  • @JimmyDiggs87 I does.

  • this cant be '75? jerry harrison didnt join until '76

  • The 1975 footage in this clip doesn't show Jerry Harrison. Not everything here is from 1975, just the B&W parts.

  • extemporanious stratification perspective. make that two chesebergers please

  • a aaa aaaa aaaa aaa?

  • the way tina's eyes move from her right hand to her left hand to davids' face in these early performances is kind of hypnotic and cute.

  • stupid fucking knob

  • This documentary has to be from the early '80s because it includes footage of the extended lineup with Steve Scales and Alex Weir.

  • @SirHatchporch Around the Stop Making Sense era.

  • @davideirth Well that's when the extended lineup was in place. I was commenting on the original poster erroneously dating this from 1975.

  • Original shiznit.

  • fudido!

  • agree with ennwarenn entirely. Saw Bryne last week in Singapore and he was great -- but he didn't do this song. If he is playing near you, don't miss the gig.

  • american psycho should have had this a there ending credits song!!! dontcha think??????

  • Bit obvious, maybe?

  • It's so interesting to see all those different iterations of the song - even before Stop Making Sense. They're truly one of the greatest bands of any decade. Seeing Byrne live a few months ago made me realize he hasn't lost his edge. Thanks for posting this.

  • I wish more of these old videos were uploaded. The mash-up is cool but I'd like to see them all individually, too!

  • this vid is really something. I'll bet he likes green.

  • wow..amazing to see how shy he was at the beginning..

  • Haha and he still is
