  • Hello, I was wondering how long the season is for coho salmon on the Fraser River. Haha sorry I am from Alaska and I am curious about the fishing season in British Columbia.

  • That must be a really sensitive rod

  • picked up a fenwick hmx 6-10 lb test(using 12 lb but still works) drift fishing i love long bendy poles for coho such a good fight

  • what colour used?

  • @hellsle Pink.

  • hello rod, i have went on ur web site and the location about fishing at North Arm, Richmond. If im coming from the north side and i fish at Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park., so will it get the same effect as on shoreline is lined by River Road in Richmond? because i wanna get some salmon there. also is there a shallow water location? if i use spinning or spoon, is it gonna easy to hook the rock at the bottom? thanks

  • @teethsheet Fraser Foreshore Park can be quite snaggy, but so can the other side be too. The only way to find out is to give these locations a go and check out where the snags are at low tide. Both sides can be equally productive for pink salmon right now, but also for coho and chum salmon in the next couple of months.

  • where is that spot

  • @BorisWDell Fraser River.

  • thank you very much, gonna be fishing a slow current parts on the river with a long "noodle rod" gonna buy since its my birthday. this video inspired me. i always love light tackle feels like a huge fish. and then you feel everything while drift fishing or jigging. thanks man!

  • so im thinking about picking up a fenwick hmx or a okuma 9'6" medium or medium light 4-12 lb line spinning reel. but will it also work for coho since here pinks are almost done with the main run? as far as drifting corkies and stuff. drift fishing thanks man

  • @azcopp That same rod is perfectly fine for coho salmon in the Tidal Fraser River, but you'd need a heavier rod if fishing in streams due to the water current. A rod with a rating 6 to 10lb or 8 to 12lb would suit river fishing for coho salmon better.

  • hello rod, thanks for many of the great video that i have learnt alot, i have a question is that im planning to buy a salmon rod at steveston marine, do u have any good recommandation (brand) that is good with in 100$ ca? Also if i am taking transport from vancouver bc at okaridge mall, how can i access there?

  • @teethsheet Take a look at some of the models available from Shimano, Trophy XL and Daiwa. You should be able to find one in that price range among these brands.

  • Great vid. Fun to watch

  • what rod are you using rod? :P but seriously

  • @azcopp Fenwick HMX.

  • hey could you help me, I drove by Dyke Rd and No.4 Rd and was looking for signs of people fishing for sturgeon at "Finn Slough" ir the end of it, and could not find anyone, could you tell me if the "End of Finns Slough" is the part with the sign "South Dyke Trail".

  • @Bobbleheadalex13 The area where you went is the exact spot that you are looking for. Best way to find out if the fishing is good or not would be to actually try it out. The absence of anglers doesn't mean the fishing is bad, and vice versa.

  • hi rod, i need some help setting up a new rod and reel..any suggestion on how long the rod and what kind of reel should i use? and also the lure whats the best color for pink salmon fishing:)? what kind of reel and rod are you using? maybe i should just get something like yours:) thnx for the reply:)

  • @ethansmith The length of the rod depends on personal preference. Any length between 6' and 9' should be good. Mine is 8'6". The strength of the rod should be between 4 and 10lb test. The reel is just a small spinning reel spooled with 8lb test Maxima Ultragreen. Check the spool capacity when looking for the right reel. You want one that is able to be spooled with line between 6lb and 10lb test.

  • Hey awesome video ;) what rod are you using ?

  • @DanishFishing Fenwick HMX.

  • Rod, what knot do you use to tie your spinners, artificials, topwaters, etc.?

I"m a novice fisherman and often have my knot/line break at the tie.

  • @akintomeatloaf Most of the time I just use a clinch knot, which hasn't been a problem for me.

  • @fishingwithrod Ok Thanks!

Yeah, I've had several times when I've been casting and casting and then the next cast, the artificial just flies off...could this be a mismatch between the weight of the lure/artificial and the poundage of my line?

  • @akintomeatloaf Possibly. For lures that are 1/4oz or more, I prefer to use at least 8lb test. For smaller lures, 1/8oz etc, 4 or 6lb test are my main lines. I use Maxima Ultragreen that has a slightly larger diameter than other brands, so 6lb test Maxima Ultragreen may seem more like 8lb test of another brand. Other things to look into are the age of the line, I change mine a couple of times per year. The knot should also be wetted before tightened to avoid abrasion. Good luck.

  • how long of a rod was this?

  • @azcopp 8'6"

  • Nice Video, i likes this..5*****

  • Thats a sexy rod and reel.

  • Another great video Rod. Could you please describe the gear your using.

  • @LordMikkell Light spinning rod and reel, 8lb test Maxima Ultragreen with a 1/4oz spoon tied to the end.

  • Nice fight. That's exactly how they acted out in washington. Slow and dead until they catch sight of you and then they're off. That rod has a lot of action to it. Good work!

  • Rod is a good video, my only regret that there is no such fish in Portugal is not in my area.

    congratulations on the channel

  • @MORAYSBRUN Thank you. We're certainly very lucky to have so many options in this part of Canada.

  • great stuff rod! the pinks are running hard in washington right now but i still haven't really had a chance to fish for them yet. so many people fish for them that it's nearly impossible to find a spot along any of the points in the ocean or even along the river banks. people pretty much stand shoulder to shoulder and don't know how to "not" cast over each others line so it gets pretty ridiculous :P

  • Thank's for the info Rod,Maxima Ultragreen is a great line,i use ultragreen 3lbs tippet fly fishing and have had some v good fish with it.ATB Steve.

  • what a gong show...

  • Great looking fish, you have a good battle on your light spinning gear, what BS is your line?ALB Steve.

  • @stevesnaps1 8lb test Maxima Ultragreen.

  • as well as dyke road, seems productive...

  • hey rod, is there a spot where you have caught sturgeon from shore, in richmond?

  • @Bobbleheadalex13 Sturgeon are regularly caught from the pier at the southern end of No. 3 Road.

  • anywhere in vancouver to catch pink salmon? went to Kerr St, but no luck alongside the rocks, too many logs.

  • @Bobbleheadalex13 You can certainly catch them at the end of Kerr Street. In this fishery, the location is not as important as timing. Fishing maybe best at one spot while poor at another during the same tide. I like to invest a large amount of time to investigate how each spot is by fishing through the high and low tides, keep a record of the results so I can refer back to them during the following seasons.

  • @fishingwithrod okay thanks, no.3rd in richmond is very productive, has a good crowd as well. any other productive spots that you know of in Vancouver?

  • @Bobbleheadalex13 On our website, if you go to "Fishing locations", look under "Tidal Fraser River" and you'll see a list of locations.

  • @fishingwithrod anywhere else in Vancouver, you recommend?

  • i see there also feeding off the surface, is there dry fly opportunities?

  • @thefallfever These fish are just surfacing/finning actually, not feeding. They simply expose the dorsal part of their body at times as they travel upstream. It'd be nice if they actually feed on dries on the surface, this place would be heaven if that was the case.

  • how big do those pinks get?

  • @thefallfever 5 to 6lb is the average weight.

  • Awesome video Rod. I was wondering what set up you are using? I was out fishing for salmons on the American River this morning. Had some good runs.

  • @barrycha916 The rod is a 8' spinning rod rated 4 - 10lb test. The spinning reel is not too big, spooled with 150yds of 8lb test Maxima Ultragreen line. The 1/4oz spoon is tied directly onto the main line.

  • Are there any pinks in the harision river yet

  • @canadianKIKI Yep. Anglers have been catching them in it for a couple of weeks now.

  • I caught 15 pinks out of the Chilliwack river today! Lots of fun :)

  • i did enjoy the video, that was some awsome fishing, and good quality too. thanks so much and keep up the good work:)

  • Please go fishing and cook it .. LIKE GUYS !!

  • @KayanEnsan We did. Check out "Pink salmon cakes" in our archive.

  • @fishingwithrod

I know !! .. But we want more

  • why didnt you keep them? nice vid.

  • @gizliliman1 We already had kept a few fish for ourselves on days prior to filming this, so we didn't need anymore fish.

  • rod i think that fish is fighting alot has that rod just bent right over wooooo PINK FISHING

  • What kind of spoon was that?

  • @Pararescue001 That spoon was home-made, 1/4oz hammered nickel with a piece of pink prism tape on one side.

  • @fishingwithrod Ok well if I can ask though a question..I live in Michigan and salmon are kind of moving in...but am wondering what is a good setup...such as light action against to like heavy action...but I am gonna have like a 7 or 8 foot rod since I drift fish at are local dam...also you should do a video on identifying different salmon...oh yes nice pink salmon.

  • @Pararescue001 For drifting and targeting salmon in rivers, I generally like to use a rod that is rated 8 to 12lb test. This strength is adequate enough for me to catch both chinook and coho salmon up to 20lb. The rod length that I use is 10'6", but shorter rods are just fine especially if fishing in small rivers.

We hope to have some salmon ID vids up on the channel eventually too. Thanks.

  • I wish I was fishing. :-/

  • where do you check the tides?

  • @WhiteRockClips Google.

  • where is a good spot?

  • @exoticsnakes Anywhere along the Fraser River where fish will move through during the incoming tide is a good spot.
