That looks exciting. However, I am a former airplane pilot and am not afraid of heights but would prefer to be in an enclosed aircraft. Your video is wonderful with spectacular views. I notice a lot of bare hillsides due to the Station Fire and a large difference in snow level between sunny and shady slopes possibly due to a big warming trend.
@NICENAD Your weather observations match what I recall. All forms of flying are o.k. by me. When I lower my helmet visor I 'feel' like I'm inside a cockpit. Thanks!
@NMERider I go to Kitty Hawk once in a while, and they told me that I could get free lessons to get my license and later in the summer help to instruct. It sounds great to me, I'm going to try to do that.
haven't flown for the past three years but watching your video is making the monkey grow. Am debating getting a GoPro HD Helmet Hero or a Drift HD170 Stealth. Which one would you recommend for HG purposes?
@skysailingcan They're both very good cameras. I think only the GoPro may offer 1280x960 but I'm not sure. I have GoPro because they came out first. I've owned them since their HD model first arrived and haven't needed to replace..
Nice video and great flying.I would like to ask is it possible for a guy that weighs in around 210 lbs can ride the thermals like that? Like alot of people say I have always had dreams where I was flying just like a bird soaring across the sky. Thanks again for the great video.
@sako1952 Thanks. You are within the weight limits for many high performance hang gliders. I have larger friends than you that fly like this. With good training and lots of practice you could do the same kind of flying. It's just takes the desire and a little motivation.
Well, first of all. I watched the entire video, the views sent chills of pleasure around in my entire body.
Does it take long time to learn how to hangglide properly? And can the wind sometimes be too strong, or too weak, or doesn't that really matter that much?
@rydoskek Glad you enjoyed it. It can take several months to a year or more to learn to hang glide well. The wind is very important but there are many other weather factor beside just the wind that we must learn about. Read the book: Flying Conditions by Dennis Pagen for a lucid explanation.
Great video NMERider !! and great flight too ! just ordered a GoPro HD after viewing your videos ! I fly a 143 U2 and had some issues with the mounting on the side. I used to use the outer sprog and the glider acted wired on landings just before stall. Would you be so kind to show how you attach your camera ? did you need to make any modifications ? thanks in advance ! regards, Reinaldo.
@rniella I just attach it to the outer sprog tip using an UltraPod. I leave the last 6" of the zipper open. I don't notice it at all. I hope you get you landing issue sorted.
Great takeoff...just when I thought I was going to be able to see you landing.....$%$·%!!
You know, this Go Pro Cameras corrupt files when bigger than 2MB I think!!
I bought an (expensive) 8MB SD card thinking I was going to be able to save the whole cross country from Peñon-Valle and the same happenned..Also my dear friend Alex told me the same....
Thanks! The camera was recording for 2 hours and 25 minutes non-stop when the battery ran low and choked. The Sandisk Ultra II 32GB SDHC card works fine but it must be reformatted using the camera.
@NMERider Mate I have watched several of your videos today, I am not a hanglider but it has been such an absolute pleasure to watch your work. Great quality videos and insightfull information as well. How good it is to be able to sit here in Australia and watch you fly over parts of the world I have never seen. Thankyou!! and be safe!!
AMAZING VIDEO...YOU ARE A TRUE ADVENTURER.
