  • I never knew Ric Flair flew rc airplanes

  • hes going to need a few more rounds on the sunbed now hes got nothing to fly

  • i love the GeeBee's. Yours is splendid! I also love the i-16 rata's.. Any more Gee Bee's since then?

  • Without the help of the commentator I would have been lost watching this!!

  • evy one she the man at 3:40 to 3:42 :o

  • Boy-ain't that the truth! Every time I put 20-30 flights on a great flying rc plane I feel like it's indestructable, and I would never have a mishap-then , suddenly that "date" comes up-like an expired library book, and I'm off to the hobby shop to start all over again! BUILD-FLY-CRASH-REPEAT! That's my motto! Thanks tazztt1.

  • Dude, put on a shirt!!

  • Let that be a lesson to all of you! Wear clothing when flying a Gee Bee ! What a maroon.

  • Great model. To be fair, the real racer was notoriously difficult to fly.

  • The word crash usually follows the words Gee Bee in a sentence.

    Bill

  • @billville111 sure does!! the rc gee bee's are just as "safe" as the real ones.

  • This is also why the REGULAR GeeBee wasn't a favorite with pilots.

  • I earlier suggested putting babies in these planes, or even small boys or dwarves, like they have in Snow White and that. But , in this case, maybe not. Maybe dogs if you could get them to sit still, or monkeys, maybe you would have to drug them.

  • @martcarey ... Seriously dude, are you MAD? Why the fk would you risk the life of a living breathing thing in an r/c airplane? You have a sick mind. Get help.

  • @tazztt1 ..the clue was in...drugged monkeys and Snow White and the seven dwarves, oh..and getting dogs to sit still.Course I am not being serious, it is known as a JOKE!I think you maybe need help in discovering your sense of humour.Let me guess...are you an...American by any chance?

  • @martcarey ...There's nothing at all wrong with 'us Americans' laughing at something funny, it's just that... well, you're not funny. You are however... sick.

    Good day.

  • @tazztt1 , which Psychiatric qualifications do you hold ? Oh yes, I have seen what you Americans laugh at. Go invade somewhere else, tosser.

  • Was very sketchy piloting the whole time, from what I could tell. Probably a little too expensive toy for his skill level.

  • @Stuckinthemuck1 ... Sketchy hell! That pilot is superb. Most r/c pilots couldn't help a Gee Bee get out of it's own way, much less stunt or land one.

  • That guy needs to learn about this great new invention. it's called a shirt xp

  • The guy at the controls stole all of Michael Jacksons black :)

  • The guy on the sticks should put a shirt on, sick as hell.

  • Has this guy ever heard of sunscreen or were they basting him to get that alligator skin effect? I guess he's the skin cancer poster child this year.

  • Yea I want a leather vest like that too and what about those Levi shorts. Well it was interesting to watch his plane fly.

  • Where can I buy that leather vest?

  • @hardenedman The vest is not for sale, but you may obtain one for free in Florida-just take your shirt off, and bask in the sun on the beach for 4 hours without sun blocker. Guaranteed results!

  • In the US anything over 55 lbs. needs a special waiver for AMA.

  • 10 ft. wing isn't much to be carrying 121 lbs.

You really need to keep the speed up.

Notice how it barely gets airborn.

  • Landed like a real Gee Bee .........spread out all over the runway=D.

  • Skip to 3:50 to see the crash.

  • Looks like this was filmed off a TV or something.

  • tthat pilot scares me

  • probably got the same problems the Real Gee Bee's had as they were notorious for killing pilots

  • See what happens when you do 100 pushups before a flight?

  • On the first flight,he was using a lot of rudder trying to turn it,then gave it elevator and aileron to make the turn.On the second flight ,he gives it full right rudder again...which in turn makes it nose down.I think he was trying to experiment and dumb thumbed it.

  • flam before crash 4:05

  • @stofouille

you're right, I saw it too. wat could it be?

    anyone an idea?

  • @stofouille quan

  • Its all about Horse Power whether it be Full scale or 1/2. Anyheww the Granvilles would have still been proud.

  • dang that sucks to see such a nice plane destroyed!

  • This commentator is quite a card

  • Flies very quick, glides like a brick!

  • LOL @ 3:41

  • What was it made of? Depleted uranium? 121lbs wtf?

  • I fly a 33% GeeBee, yes they can be a bitch to takeoff and land. Wind needs to be down the runway, keep on the rudder and pay attention. They were really designed for speed not aerobatics, even though you can do them. Watch the speed. Really like this pilots uniform.(ugh)

  • That thing is way underpowered for it's weight .

  • That was my thought as it looked to have a hard time climbing out on earlier passes.

    Highly unfortunate regardless.

    Definitely not a park flyer.

Maybe pilot was fixed in tunnel vision.

But they were very cool, all engine & not much wing on the real ones.

I think this is where the Coors Jet I saw is somewhat built after.

  • At 121 lbs., that is one heavy airplane. My 25% Miss Los Angeles with a 6 ft. wing span weighs in at 16 lbs with a G-38 and it can be a bear to fly. So, it doesn't surprise me that the Gee Bee lost so much altitude when the airspeed dropped after the roll.

  • @covercalls The mass of a 1/2 scale is aproximately 8 times the mass of a 1/4 scale.

  • Sad ending to a beautiful aircraft. Due to the fuselage design of my 25% Miss Los Angeles, I feel it flies better. These airplanes aren't designed for aerobatics just for speed.

  • Well, Jimmy Doolittle flew and tamed one, and died of old age at 90+

I believe the Gee Bee Z had a better trade-off between aerodynamics and controllability, even though it preceded the R2.

  • ALL r/c planes have an expiration date, we just don't know when it is!

  • @tazztt1 and it changes

  • That thing is a bear to fly in real life must be twice as hard if you're not sitting in the cockpit.

  • LOL...the gee bee is a horrible design anyway...responsible for killing quite a few great pilots, although their greatness is questionable in my opinion, due to their obvious poor judgement and sanity for climbing into one of these deathtraps.

  • Most of the Gee Bee's were crashed on landing in very rough fields their demise has nothing to do with the design or the pilots skill that flew these machines

  • Too bad about the loss. That guy was a top notch flyer.

The Bee Gee is not an easy plane to fly. To build and fly one that large can only be done by someone at the top of their game.

  • Nice inverted flying but dangerous to pass over crowd. Most clubs would ban this guy. If that was madien, should have done basic circuit first to feel it out. Probably best he wrecked it before he hurt or killed someone.

Also, unless you're into body building, put a fvcking shirt on, moron...

  • That hurts to see such an aircraft being destroyed!

    Beautiful plane!

    b.r.

    Wolfgang

  • tat's too bad. That's an awesome bird.

When was the vid shot... judging from what people are wearing I'm guessing late 80's

  • The 5 videos I posted of the GIANT unlimited scale aircraft happen to be recorded in La Ferte France in 2003 at the annual rc expo. Thanks for watching--Ithink the "BIG" ones are fantastic!

  • @busvanman agreed.
