  • Leanne, your strength and sheer guts has given way to the biggest changes in Australian law regarding child restraints. On behalf of all children we thank you.

  • almost thought it was how to save a life by the fray but thanks to the music thing in the description

  • God bless your Family. I have 3 girls and my hart breaks for you. Keep doing what your doing.

  • Isn't it insane that you can buy these booster seats from Big W or K Mart without anchor restraints. I am so sorry for your terrible loss. RIP beautiful Girl

  • i'm so sorry for your loss, I'm in the UK with an 8 year old child and i'm not sure whether he still needs his booster. I will look into this. RIP Toni xxxx

  • in sweden the rear face to 25 kilos aka 55 pounds

  • Your video is the reason my almost 5 year old will be harnessed for a while.

  • It's sad that i have to break the Australian law by using american car seats. My American baby seats keep them 5 point harnessed til they are approx 40kg,8 y/o,unlike our pathetic 18kg.The USA seats are also 4-5 times heavier&MUCH better built.Wake up Aus Gov.Kids are dying because of ur laws.I have rung britax over&over to speak to someone who will listen to me about upgrading the seats to have bigger harnesses. They said "our laws are fine, they work, everything is tried n tested!" Yeah right!

  • @uptheduff6969

If you think the ones we have in the states are nice you should see the ones that Sweden makes! I just drool over those.

  • @uptheduff6969 Have you tried Graco? I dont know if they will go to where you are but they are also nice seats! my daughter who just turned 4 in June is in a seat called the Graco Natulis witch 5 point harnesses to 65lbs and then high backs or backless bossters to 100lbs. she has been in this seat sience she was 2and a half years old because she out grew her convertibal carseat that refaced till 35lbs in hight.

  • I'm sorry to hear that. :/

  • did this hapen to you

  • Yes it did happen,

    Toni is my daughter

  • Thanks for sharing this video...you inspired us to always wear our seatbelts.

    Thank you.

  • God Bless you. I hope it gives you some peace to know that your message IS getting out there. I had my 3 1/2 yr old boy in a booster seat until recently. Like you, I have NO IDEA of the dangers. He is now in a 5pt harness and will remain that way until 65 lbs. Thank you for sharing your story.

  • We need better 5 point seats for bigger kids.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss...Toni was beautiful and you must miss her so much. But she must be so proud of you! I am grateful to live in the U.S. where we can get higher-weight harnessing seats, but unfortunately, too many people do not use them. Your foundation has the power to change the world. Please keep fighting!

  • oh my god, i cant belive that a government would be so ignorant as to say that a 1 year old is safe in an adult seat. i'm sorry but is ur government trying to wipe out a generation of children? I am so sorry for your loss, ur little girl was beautiful. as a paramedic and a mother i am appalled by this, in ur place i would fight w/ the government till they changed the carseat laws, but than again ur government apparently isnt as child friendly as ours is.

  • Well done!

    Where are you living?

It varies from country to country, Contact your government department n transport to get further information on where you can have your seat properly installed or checked.

  • I worry all time on car seats. I have a 2 in 1 seat since she out grew her carrier in length.

The rear facing doesnt seem so stable with all the belts so im wondering when i can switch to front

If anyone can tell me when it would be best to switch to forward, Some say 22 lb or at certain hieght/age.

  • rearfacing is the safest way for children to ride otherwise you risk their brain being ripped from their spinal chord. Never be in a rush to turn a child forward facing - keep them rearfacing till the weight limit of their seat and in a 5 pt harness seat for as long as possible.

  • I have a toddler that I'll be moving in2 a booster seat & your story & info have been extremely valuable to me. I now know how 2 restrain my child properly as before I found your site I had no idea. There just isnt enough info out there for us mums. I'll be 4warding your website 2 all those I know & definately be adding u to my "favourites" list so I have the info 4ever.

Again, thanx for sharing your story (I had tears streaming down my face) & for your extremely valuable info. Megan

  • Go into a booster at 18 kilos? Forget it! I'm not taking the risk with my child and had a 5 POINT HARNESS brought over from the U.S. when my daughter reached 18 kilos and outgrew her seat.

Why can't we get these outside N. America? Don't our children deserve to be securely strapped in?

If you choose to strap your 3 year olds in boosters, as the law usually permits, good luck but I'm not willing to take that gamble.

I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

  • Unfortunatly it is illegal to have child restraints that are not Australian Standards. American seats are not side impact tested and most do not have the Top Teather needed to meet Australian Standards.

The law says a child may sit in an adult belt after 12 months of age.

Australian Standards are now reviewing their testing police and is open for comment, so have your say.. visit belletoni dot org dot au and click on the links at the top of the page.

  • I visited your site but was afraid to comment as I'm not NZ or Oz nationality.

Yes, I'm also going against the law in our country by using an American carseat but after mulling over it, I decided that my child's safety was more important than being within the law. What a choice to have to make!

Britax said they can't sell their safer seats here due to national laws. Ugh. Good luck getting things changed down under!

  • Thank you Eclipsepearl. I know it is sad that we have to break the law to protect our children. We have had a breakthrough in the past few weeks with getting the law changed. And also the safety standards that are used for testing our seats is now under review.. A great start here!.

  • Yeah! Hopefully that will break through the "rules" barrier and we will start to see seats WITH tethers and WITH 5 point harnesses above 40lbs/18kilos around the world.

Sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter. You have already helped inform so many parents and keep so many children safe. Her death was avoidable but not in vain.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Very Good!

  • Thank you
