@coltsrule5150 Actually it was Mikail Gorbachev who ended the cold war with the August 1991 coup. Reagan wasn't even the president at that time. That's why Gorbachev received a Nobel peace prize, Reagan did not.
Reagan actually escalated the cold war, Afghanistan, the arms race, star wars project, missile placements in Germany, arming Mujaheddin forces(which later became the Al Qaida)Thanks for that Reagan! etc. etc. etc.
thomas jefferson didnt write any of the constitution
below is a link from wikianswers
The U.S. Constitution is the work of several men, directly and indirectly. The three most notable persons whose work influenced the Constitution but who were not involved in its writing are Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Thomas Paine.
FDR has to be the best man. Most of the positive things that modern Americans know about and benefit from including Social Security, medicare, unemployment was him. I would have to disagree with Cenk though about Truman. Truman really spat on FDR's legacy by not even attempting to pass the second bill of rights.
I think "best" might have meant different things to the poll participants. I liked Reagan because he cracked jokes like no one else and had a great speaking voice. He wasn't the best president in terms of what he accomplished, but I think some people translated best to "favorite", in which that would be a valid argument. Still, Bush should never have come in the top 10, 20, or even 30.
I consider myself a very big Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Reagan, Bush person. Coolidge..I don't know a whole bunch about him, but he seems pretty good. I must admit, I do have some problems with Lincoln. And I think presidents such as Wilson and FDR are among the worst.
@ProjectMartyr - Reagen Truman Madison Jefferson JFK FDR Washington Lincon Eisenhower All guys that really pushed the envelope .... thats what its all about ... making a move that counts, and BTW, Obama is like right there with Nixon at the damn bottom ! - PB!
I would rule out JFK just by time. Great guy, but even the best of presidents have terrible second terms (well, pretty much everybody but Thomas Jefferson comes to mind). Many polls don't even rate short termed presidents like Garfield.
I'm surprised that he mentioned James Madison. I love him but he didn't have incredible successful terms. In fact Madison and Reagan get similar rankings, anywhere from 7-20 (really 8-15).
The Debt Ceiling under President Reagan was raised eighteen times to a total of $1.85 trillion (See Table 7.3). This is less than the $3 trillion-plus already raised under President Obama! Raising the Ceiling 18 times during the eight Reagan years meant a Ceiling battle every 5.3 months (on average), with an average rise of only $102 billion per increase. So… does Obama really want to get the Reagan Treatment?
Ronald Reagan won the cold war. Even Margaret Thatcher said he did. it's a good thing he did.the soviet union had us out-numbered 6 to 1 in nuclear missiles until Reagan dealt with eliminating them.the ussr wanted to take over the world and spread their hate.Thank GOD that Ronald Reagan put marxism-leninism on the trash heap of history. i was there.i lived through the 80's.
Oh those elitist, out of touch historians who say Lincoln and Washington were the greatest presidents. They didn't have the skill to make things simple enough for simple folks to understand, like, "evil empire" and "god gave us this great land to call our own." Oh, and "mr. gorbachev, tear down this wall" and it happened about ten years later. Apparently our greatest president was naeve when he said you couldn't fool all the people all the time.
Yes, Washington was probably the greatest president, of course, but Ronald Reagan took moral stands and renewed the American heritage after decades of Liberals' socialism.
Ronny & his shiny red button fetish best pres. ever? Are you kidding me? It's only because people are sooo stupid they can't remember back any farther. Regan was a mouth breathing, drooling moroon. Ronny took credit for all of Carter's hard work in the east, cancled the renewable resource initiative, crucified his cabinet when he got caught in iran contra. acted like he had something to do with communist collaspe,& stayed home when mommy said the stars were against him. Now I'm done..
@Bellita1 Funny. I believe it was during Reagans term when Saddam Hussein was supported by the US. Remember that now infamous photo of him shaking hands with Donald Rumsfeld. What a nice selective memory you have. Simple fact: we can't go trooping around remaking the world as we wish it were.
@xexixk So Reagan was suppose to know that Saddam was going to turn out the way he did. Jimmy Carter's wife had her picture taken with John Wayne Gacey, who turned out to be one of the worst serial killers this country has ever seen.
@Bellita1 It would have been a pretty good clue what kind of person Hussein was after he purged and executed any of his oposition almost immediately after he took power. I don't have any sympathy for Hussein and his ending, but I'm also enough of a realist to know that we can't go around the glove remaking it as we wish it were. There are a lot of horrible leaders out there, we can't transform those places. The only succesful revolutions are those that come from within a society.
@xexixk So who is going to take over Libya after Obama get's done with his bombing campaign? He is helping rebels oust a Dictator but doesn't know will replace him.
@Bellita1 Who knows - that's why it'st best to not meddle. Nothing is said about what is going on in the Ivory Coast - of course they don't have oil. Nothing said about Bahrain using Saudi troops to put down the uprising there - of course we have the 5th fleet staioned in Bahrain. Nothing said about the handle full of protests in Saudi or the growing protests in Syria.
Just a few days after this clip, this jack ass claims that Americans are Liberal, based on the same type of poll that he seemed to put a lot of stock into. Now he is saying that Americans are not smart enough to be able name presidents, so this poll should be dismissed. Wow, I think between the 2 clips he is saying that Americans are stupid liberals. I'm not a Republican, but I despise Democrats.
@UncontestedTruth OBAMA IS LOST WITHOUT HIS TELEPROMPTER. THE IDIOT TRIES TO GO THROUGH WINDOWS INSTEAD OF DOORS AT THE WHITEHOUSE. THE IDIOT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO USE A PORT-A-POTTY. THE IDIOT THINKS THAT THERE IS 57 STATES!!!
I just want to say, typing in all caps is not only annoying to read, but it makes it seem like you aren't very intelligent to just type what you want to say normally. That is all.
No not really. I'm a random passerby and your comments happen to be a the top. I skipped right over them because of the way they were written and wanted to inform you in all seriousness it's not something I would just read. The all caps is a little annoying to say the least. So whoever you were having a debate with probably would be less likey to respond to you.
Ok, for once TYT had a point... But to say it's all republicans fault. That's total bullshit. I can't believe Obama, Clinton, or George Bush are even on the ballot. Reagan was a good president btw. Not the best of all time by any stretch of the imagination, but WAY better than Bill Clinton. I'm independant btw, not republican.
@mphello yea man history in school is s joke there still teaching Columbus was first to America when we have know since the 70 he wasn't. The civil war was not fought over slavery Lincoln changed it to freeing slaves cause he needed more soldiers.
Fucking piece of shit presidents right from G Washington could have freed slaves and let women vote. Nothing stopping them. Hypocritical cowardly rightwing conservatard scum.
Conservatives always suck off the sacrifices made by liberals and radicals.
If it weren't for radicals fighting against slavery and for getting women to vote and for unions, conservatives wouldn't have any property or freedom at all or a decent paycheck.
@mphello "G Washington could have freed slaves and let women vote. Nothing stopping them. "
Not entirely true. The Southern states joined the war against England only after promise that they can keep their slaves. Otherwise they would have joined British and there would be no United States. (and obviously slaves would continue being slaves)
Women back then weren't educated. Allowing them to vote would mean just throwing the dice.
@mphello Following your logic - Southerners shouldn't have the slaves then on the first place. What's your point? The colonists were British themselves. They joined revolution because they didn't want to pay British taxes anymore. If Washington told them they had to give up slaves, then they had no reason of joining the revolution.
I don't get it. What's your point? If you were Washington what you have done? Sit and bitch at youtube?
@wildbestia And, so what's YOUR point? So what if Washington or abolitionists refused to give in on slavery? So what if the Southerners then refused to join the revolution? So what? What's your point?
@wildbestia Yeah, and so what? If Washington could win a war against powerful England, he could certainly have physically won a war to bomb/cannon/whatever the South and win freedom for the slaves, and saved countless human-years of suffering. Tough shit if the South and slaveowners don't get what they want.
Also, the various groups in Africa who became slaves could have risen up and revolted against their kidnappers.
@wildbestia I have read history. Did very well in it. Nothing in written history disproves the fact that Washington or millions of others could have risen up and abolished slavery long before the US Civil War.
Now - if you HAD said something like "the Southern slaveowners were PHYSICALLY more powerful or had some special technology, like a nuclear bomb or death ray or stun gun, that would defeat G Washington from freeing the slaves" - then, YES, you WOULD have proved your case.
Jimmy Carter #1 (maybe). After that, they were all pieces of shit who deserved to be killed and tortured, along with everybody who voted for them and everybody who defends the unjust fascist laws that make it illegal to bomb or nuke the White House, Capitol building and all other dens and lairs of Republicans and Democrats.
John Hinckley was an American hero. So is that Loughner guy in Arizona.
Reagan should have had his eyes burned out with a blowtorch.
I don't give a fuck about this politically correct propaganda shoved down our throats that there is a difference between a convict/terrorist/prison vs a prisoner of war. I don't have to. Everyone fights for a cause.
The people I would put on my top ten list would be Theodore Roosevelt, James Polk (underrated), Franklin Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Ronald Reagan (overrated but nonetheless a good president), Thomas Jefferson, John Kennedy (eh...sort of), and maybe Bill Clinton. Andrew Jackson was good but I don't appreciate him massacring all the Native Americans and Ulysses Grant I liked for his human rights advocacy but he let some of the worst scandals go on during his presidency.
Please, I beg you, don't buy into this new-generation liberal stuff (keep in mind I am a liberal), all that bull about Andrew Jackson murdering Indians is made up crap. He passed a legitimate bill to voluntarily move them into the west and even PAID some of them for their land. The ONLY tribe that was forced out were teh Cherokees, and that was after the Supreme Court ruled that all Indians should be removed (trail of tears) that was under Van Buren, not Jackson.
You have to love how some rag head can do a news program bashing one of our countries greatest presidents. It doesn't matter if this guy doesn't like our presidents...they are ours and they are the very reason this swarthy camel ball licker has the freedom to post his low budget news.
John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson. Why the hell weren't these guys closer to the top?!?! George W. Bush at number 10???? I call bull shit.
Tough call!!! Lincoln would have been my knee-jerk. FDR certainly in the running. Here's a dark horse.... how about Polk? Didn't he increase the size of the country by one third also?
show me your stats for this; I'll warn you I'm studying economics for Uni, and FDR's and battling Republicans in the late 30's programs' are an entire unit, as well as Hoover's wonderful contributions to the Recession that FDR had to clean up
@TAz69x You are learning text book economics, it is a whole lot different in the real world. Granted Hoover did add to the depression, just as bush the second did. But than FDR came in, and Obama today, and things got a heck of a lot worse.
The republican plan is working! Screw up education etc, dumb the people down, and then when they're sitting on a couch watching fox news, they'll take in whatever the pretty lady on TV says.
@yukiomishima246 I'd really love to hear you define what a marxist is, as it seems you just plucked a random word you consider appropriate to be derisive.
@MyTemporaryAccount88 screw up education? so if we let people smoke weed, they'll get smarter, ahh now i see. And what do you want me to watch besides fox, there's no other Conservative news station.
@mcgge7 The US has gone down in education in the world, the Dems pushed policies like those in countries that improved, GOP pushed like those that worsened. Safe to say they screwed up education.
I don't know how you got weed into the picture, but alcohol is better you say?
Uhm, why do you need a conservative news station? Get your news from here & there, many publications publish a few good articles, with a lot of BS. What matters is finding out reality, not hearing what you want to hear.
@MyTemporaryAccount88 no, quote wherever i said alchohol is better. Stop putting words in my mouth. the stupid turks lie about everything. If the education and healthcare is so good in socialist nations, why don't you go to europe, oh wait life is really shitty their. Hmm wonder why?
@mcgge7 ... I mentioned alcohol because you brought in weed in the picture, when I hadn't mentioned it. Epic fail man.
I live in Sweden, and I'm a dual citizen so I could live in the US anytime I want. I hate the winters in Sweden, but I'm staying here because the politics are so much saner here.
Life isn't shitty in Europe, you know that right? Of course there are many different types of states in Europe, but those more similar to the US are those with a worse economy, health etc. Just sayin'
@MyTemporaryAccount88 you don't pay taxes do you? I mentioned weed because liberals want to legalize weed which doesn't make anyone healthier or smarter.
@mcgge7 Everyone doesn't hate taxes with a vengeance, because we accept it as a part of reality, and we get something back for it. Like when my nose was broken, all it cost me was ~$50 for 2 visits to the doctors, one of which was middle of the night emergency-room.
Read the summary of "Global Commission on Drug Policy Report (English)", & weed most definitely has made people healthier, thank Nixon for the lies. There are people across the spectrum for legalization, you're just ignorant of it.
@MyTemporaryAccount88 so you stole everything for people who actually work for hard for their money. Weed is 3x as likely to make people schizophrenic. Look up bar stool economics.
@mcgge7 My parents paid into the, I've paid taxes on my income, purchases etc. Our system costs less than the US system, is better, & bankrupts fewer people etc. Swedens economy grew an insane amount when we were a serious social-democratic state, employment was high, and we needed more immigrants to support our economic growth.
Now we've gone further right (hooray for money funding campaigns etc), and we're on a downhill slope.
Many drugs bring out preexisting conditions like schizophrenia...
@MyTemporaryAccount88 in socialism, one student studies and makes A's the other makes F's, but they both get C's because it's "equal". The A student figures out he doesn't have to work for an A, so he start only working hard enough for an F, thinking he will get a C. But when you average an F and an F, you get an F.
@mcgge7 Except that's not socialism, but OK fine. There are other factors that go into it you know? Ever heard of "mastery"? It seems to be pretty much the biggest driving motivator for people to do better. I suggest you check out "rsa animate drive the surprising truth about what motivates us". It'll take you 11 minutes to open it up & view, see if you don't learn summat.
As for your analogy on socialism, what I'd do there is try to understand why the student got an F, & help the student.
@mcgge7 Where do you get the money from? Aren't you the govt in this scenario?
Look, in Sweden you don't get a good grade for the good grades sake (except in private schools, because they get paid more, shitty private market incentives ftw), but if you're poor & you scored well in school (or in a university-qualification-test), you can get good govt loans, student-assistance, & assistance with your rent, so even the poorest can become doctors without crushing debt IF they got what it takes.
@MyTemporaryAccount88 Do you enjoy going to the DMV, what about the post-office(snail mail), oh yeah also jury duty. All government run, the government does a horrible job at anything. The governments only job is to protect Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And they still allow abortion:( which violates life
@mcgge7 I don't live in the US, so I have nothing to do with any of them. Applying for a drivers license = going to the police for permits, went real quick. Booking a time for tests = simple as hell, done online. The post office? Every time I've had anything to do with 'em it's gone real quick. Never been summoned to jury duty, because we don't have juries in Sweden. So maybe you'd love it here.
Govts job is what we want it to be, & private non-universal HC etc violates life more than abortion.
@MyTemporaryAccount88 socialism promtoes failure. You'll get paid the same amount no matter how good of a job you do. With capitalism if a business does a poor job you can just go to another business and it promotes success.
@mcgge7 Except you're talking complete nonsense. You telling me there's only socialism & capitalism & no gray-area? Every single fucking country on earth is a gray area. America is capitalism with social safety nets a la social democracy, and it meddles with bailouts subsidies etc all the damn time.
Socialism has many, many fractions, and Sweden as an example, is a social democratic state. If Sweden promoted IKEA to fail, how come Kamprad was the richest man on earth? Think for one second man.
@MyTemporaryAccount88 I never said theres no gray area. The USA is in the grey area, we have social security, welfare and public schools. I can govern myself and i don't need the government to do it for me. Kamprad (assuming he owns IKEA) is rich because the furniture industry isn't socialized in Sweden, is it?
@mcgge7 So then why are you talking about socialism as an absolute like that? You've taken it to an extreme nobody advocating it takes it to. You've got this fantasy in your head, that's my point.
Yes, he's the IKEA-guy, but that's the thing. Why on earth would the Swedish govt socialize the furniture industry? We've basically got the same as the US except we got single payer HC, govt monopoly on alcohol (Works great), not that much more.
Sweden just gives you better opportunities, that's all.
I agree. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln and John Kennedy all deserve to be up there in the top 10 AT LEAST!!!!!! Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan might make the top 20. Bush and Obama are among the bottom 10 all-time and probably the bottom 5.
@pillowbugg Yes, also good choices. But it surprises me that I have to explain to you why John Kennedy. He tried ending wars, ending the federal reserve, and exposing secret societies. He's the last president to tell the truth. Google it.
@MrDeppness Sorry but you don't get elevated to a list of top notch leaders with things you have "tried" to do, rather then what your actual accomplishments were. He may have had very good intentions, but he fell short. If he wasn't assassinated he could very well have been included amoung the list of elite presidents.
@pillowbugg I think exposing the secret societies and signing executive order 11110 were accomplishments unto themselves. No president since has even attempted to do the things Kennedy sought after. For this alone, he is easily in the top 10 easily.
People watch too much Fox News, which glorifies Reagan all the time. The problem is people are more "educated" by the news media than actual books and historical material.
@lukegreen37 Lyndon B. johnson was in my opinion, the most underrated president in US history. Look him up, he was a brillaint negotiator and his policies were successful, the only downside to his presidency was the vietnam war. But based on the fear americans held against communism in the 60's can you blame him?
I think Teddy Roosevelt is underrated. Teddy Gave us the new deal and he unapologetically stood up to big business and was a blue collar progressive. He is EXACTLY what we need right now.
It is so funny how the two party system and mainstream media brainwashes feeble minded voters.... democratic voters think clinton is the best pres in US history and republica voters think Reagan is the best pres in US history? What a joke, heres a much more reasonable list: 1. FDR 2. Theodore Roosevelt 3. Abraham lincoln 4. harry truman 5. Woodrow Wilson 6. Dwight D. Eisenhower 7. Lyndon B. Johnson 8. john F. Kennedy 9. Thomas Jefferson 10. George Washington 11. Polk
A fucking lifeguard and b movie actor over some of the best statesmen and intellectuals.. Makes sense in a country where image and fake patriotism are more important than competence and ability.
@Somai82 What's wrong with being a lifeguard? If he were an A list movie actor would that make him more credible? Hell Look at Charlie Sheen, he pulls for you Demmies. Reagan was a true patriot and the best statesman this country has ever had. Clinton and Obama aren't worthy of being stains in Reagan's underwear.
@Bellita1 ''What's wrong with being a lifeguard?''
eh..It isn't a qualification for the presidency you fucking moron. nor is an actor, regardless of box office sales. Bringing up Charlie Sheen because ''he pulls for you Demmies'' is even more retarded and completely unrelated. Reagan was a piece of shit who secretly sold guns to Iran and funded the contra movement.
Republicans are so in love unanimously with Reagan that it completely skews the poll numbers that's all... Democrats have more to choose from the love is pretty spread out amongst JFK, Roosevelt, or Clinton (and now Obama), Republicans had Bush (Jr.) and JFK in their top 5, that should tell you how much they had to choose from... The fact that Nixon is in the top 50% of presidents cracks me up.
i' m not sure why cenk is so surprised, it seems evident to me that americans, indeed most westerners, don't learn history but rather receive it; don't learn anything, really, just receive knowledge; i think this is the number one reason why the world is in the state it is in, very few people are thoughtful, very few people even know how to think; we need a return to critical thought on all levels of society
I love this..Reagan is the hero of the Republican party....the same Reagan who raised taxes 11 times...gave amnesty to illegal immigrant... tucked tail and ran our of Lebanon ...and ran the country so far in debt that we've still not recovered from it nearly 30 years later...haha....a liberal president by anyone's standards yet, they hold him up like he is the poster child for conservatism ...ignorance is not bliss...its embarrassing, unless you're a Democrat....in which case we just chuckle
Why is he the best president? He did no funding for AIDS, hated Gays, and other things. FDR should be 2nd, and second only because of the crimes he committed, such as the internment camps. Don't know how should be first though. Hard decision, I think no one, yet.
People in this country think Reagan is "the best president" for three reasons:
1 We (especially right wingers) love to ignore historical facts like Reagan's screwing of the poor or his obscene spending.
2 We are profoundly stupid and misinformed when it comes to what the actual attitudes of some of our leaders are.
3: some people in this country can't see past all the fake propaganda that has credited Reagan with everything from ending the USSR to being tough on terrorists (which he wasn't)
Ronal reagan was a good actor, let's just leave it like that.He was a dumb president. He once traveled over brazil and it took him 6 hours to reach its destination, when he arrived he said :"Oh,This latin american countries are big aren't they?" He thought latin america was a small area.Once he went to colombia and said : "This country, bolivia is nice isn't it?" He was a dumbass

Bellita1 10 months ago

@mphello yea man history in school is s joke there still teaching Columbus was first to America when we have know since the 70 he wasn't. The civil war was not fought over slavery Lincoln changed it to freeing slaves cause he needed more soldiers.
dieseldudee 11 months ago
Fucking piece of shit presidents right from G Washington could have freed slaves and let women vote. Nothing stopping them. Hypocritical cowardly rightwing conservatard scum.
Conservatives always suck off the sacrifices made by liberals and radicals.
If it weren't for radicals fighting against slavery and for getting women to vote and for unions, conservatives wouldn't have any property or freedom at all or a decent paycheck.
mphello 11 months ago
@mphello "G Washington could have freed slaves and let women vote. Nothing stopping them. "
Not entirely true. The Southern states joined the war against England only after promise that they can keep their slaves. Otherwise they would have joined British and there would be no United States. (and obviously slaves would continue being slaves)
Women back then weren't educated. Allowing them to vote would mean just throwing the dice.
I believe the founders did the best they could.
wildbestia 11 months ago
@wildbestia The Southerners could have freed the slaves if they wanted to. But they chose not to.
Individual personal responsibility doesn't stop just because we lump the people back then into tidy historical events.
mphello 11 months ago
@mphello Following your logic - Southerners shouldn't have the slaves then on the first place. What's your point? The colonists were British themselves. They joined revolution because they didn't want to pay British taxes anymore. If Washington told them they had to give up slaves, then they had no reason of joining the revolution.
I don't get it. What's your point? If you were Washington what you have done? Sit and bitch at youtube?
wildbestia 11 months ago
@wildbestia And, so what's YOUR point? So what if Washington or abolitionists refused to give in on slavery? So what if the Southerners then refused to join the revolution? So what? What's your point?
mphello 11 months ago
@mphello my point is Washington COULD NOT have freed the slaves. There wouldn't be United States if they did.
wildbestia 11 months ago
@wildbestia Yeah, and so what? If Washington could win a war against powerful England, he could certainly have physically won a war to bomb/cannon/whatever the South and win freedom for the slaves, and saved countless human-years of suffering. Tough shit if the South and slaveowners don't get what they want.
Also, the various groups in Africa who became slaves could have risen up and revolted against their kidnappers.
mphello 11 months ago
@mphello duh... I'm saying he COULD NOT. better read some history.
wildbestia 11 months ago
@wildbestia I have read history. Did very well in it. Nothing in written history disproves the fact that Washington or millions of others could have risen up and abolished slavery long before the US Civil War.
mphello 11 months ago
@mphello dude... just do something more useful... I just told you WHY. if you don't get it, then probably you won't...
wildbestia 11 months ago
@wildbestia Actually, no you hadn't.
Now - if you HAD said something like "the Southern slaveowners were PHYSICALLY more powerful or had some special technology, like a nuclear bomb or death ray or stun gun, that would defeat G Washington from freeing the slaves" - then, YES, you WOULD have proved your case.
mphello 11 months ago
@mphello dude... stop it.. i repeat, if you didn't get it, then you won't.
wildbestia 11 months ago
Jimmy Carter #1 (maybe). After that, they were all pieces of shit who deserved to be killed and tortured, along with everybody who voted for them and everybody who defends the unjust fascist laws that make it illegal to bomb or nuke the White House, Capitol building and all other dens and lairs of Republicans and Democrats.

mcgge7 8 months ago
@mcgge7 The US has gone down in education in the world, the Dems pushed policies like those in countries that improved, GOP pushed like those that worsened. Safe to say they screwed up education.
I don't know how you got weed into the picture, but alcohol is better you say?
Uhm, why do you need a conservative news station? Get your news from here & there, many publications publish a few good articles, with a lot of BS. What matters is finding out reality, not hearing what you want to hear.
MyTemporaryAccount88 8 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 no, quote wherever i said alchohol is better. Stop putting words in my mouth. the stupid turks lie about everything. If the education and healthcare is so good in socialist nations, why don't you go to europe, oh wait life is really shitty their. Hmm wonder why?
mcgge7 8 months ago
Just sayin'
MyTemporaryAccount88 8 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 you don't pay taxes do you? I mentioned weed because liberals want to legalize weed which doesn't make anyone healthier or smarter.
mcgge7 8 months ago
@mcgge7 Everyone doesn't hate taxes with a vengeance, because we accept it as a part of reality, and we get something back for it. Like when my nose was broken, all it cost me was ~$50 for 2 visits to the doctors, one of which was middle of the night emergency-room.
Read the summary of "Global Commission on Drug Policy Report (English)", & weed most definitely has made people healthier, thank Nixon for the lies. There are people across the spectrum for legalization, you're just ignorant of it.
MyTemporaryAccount88 8 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 so you stole everything for people who actually work for hard for their money. Weed is 3x as likely to make people schizophrenic. Look up bar stool economics.
mcgge7 8 months ago
@mcgge7 My parents paid into the, I've paid taxes on my income, purchases etc. Our system costs less than the US system, is better, & bankrupts fewer people etc. Swedens economy grew an insane amount when we were a serious social-democratic state, employment was high, and we needed more immigrants to support our economic growth.
Now we've gone further right (hooray for money funding campaigns etc), and we're on a downhill slope.
Many drugs bring out preexisting conditions like schizophrenia...
MyTemporaryAccount88 7 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 in socialism, one student studies and makes A's the other makes F's, but they both get C's because it's "equal". The A student figures out he doesn't have to work for an A, so he start only working hard enough for an F, thinking he will get a C. But when you average an F and an F, you get an F.
mcgge7 7 months ago
@mcgge7 Except that's not socialism, but OK fine. There are other factors that go into it you know? Ever heard of "mastery"? It seems to be pretty much the biggest driving motivator for people to do better. I suggest you check out "rsa animate drive the surprising truth about what motivates us". It'll take you 11 minutes to open it up & view, see if you don't learn summat.
As for your analogy on socialism, what I'd do there is try to understand why the student got an F, & help the student.
MyTemporaryAccount88 7 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 If they stop taxing me maybe i'd have enough money to help the student
mcgge7 7 months ago
@mcgge7 Where do you get the money from? Aren't you the govt in this scenario?
Look, in Sweden you don't get a good grade for the good grades sake (except in private schools, because they get paid more, shitty private market incentives ftw), but if you're poor & you scored well in school (or in a university-qualification-test), you can get good govt loans, student-assistance, & assistance with your rent, so even the poorest can become doctors without crushing debt IF they got what it takes.
MyTemporaryAccount88 7 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 Do you enjoy going to the DMV, what about the post-office(snail mail), oh yeah also jury duty. All government run, the government does a horrible job at anything. The governments only job is to protect Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And they still allow abortion:( which violates life
mcgge7 7 months ago
@mcgge7 I don't live in the US, so I have nothing to do with any of them. Applying for a drivers license = going to the police for permits, went real quick. Booking a time for tests = simple as hell, done online. The post office? Every time I've had anything to do with 'em it's gone real quick. Never been summoned to jury duty, because we don't have juries in Sweden. So maybe you'd love it here.
Govts job is what we want it to be, & private non-universal HC etc violates life more than abortion.
MyTemporaryAccount88 7 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 socialism promtoes failure. You'll get paid the same amount no matter how good of a job you do. With capitalism if a business does a poor job you can just go to another business and it promotes success.
mcgge7 7 months ago
@mcgge7 Except you're talking complete nonsense. You telling me there's only socialism & capitalism & no gray-area? Every single fucking country on earth is a gray area. America is capitalism with social safety nets a la social democracy, and it meddles with bailouts subsidies etc all the damn time.
Socialism has many, many fractions, and Sweden as an example, is a social democratic state. If Sweden promoted IKEA to fail, how come Kamprad was the richest man on earth? Think for one second man.
MyTemporaryAccount88 7 months ago
@MyTemporaryAccount88 I never said theres no gray area. The USA is in the grey area, we have social security, welfare and public schools. I can govern myself and i don't need the government to do it for me. Kamprad (assuming he owns IKEA) is rich because the furniture industry isn't socialized in Sweden, is it?
mcgge7 7 months ago
@mcgge7 So then why are you talking about socialism as an absolute like that? You've taken it to an extreme nobody advocating it takes it to. You've got this fantasy in your head, that's my point.
Yes, he's the IKEA-guy, but that's the thing. Why on earth would the Swedish govt socialize the furniture industry? We've basically got the same as the US except we got single payer HC, govt monopoly on alcohol (Works great), not that much more.
Sweden just gives you better opportunities, that's all.
MyTemporaryAccount88 7 months ago
