@trainglen22 - It's been repainted into retro phaze III paint. Black roof. Silver body and the stripes down the middle of the car. I'll be capturing the train soon. Hopefully with one of the heritage repainted P42's too.

I wish they would run that on the silver service trains down to florida. With the new penn station tunnels proposed by Amtrak becomming a reality, maybe we will see that day!

@AMTK510 - I've heard about the Ocean View being used on the Surfline in past years. I would love to visit So Cali and ride the Coaster-MetroLink trains...and Amtrak's Surfliners. Get some trains on video at Oceanside or Del Mar.

I knew that Amtrak has operated the dome on the Adirondack in the past but I never had time to see it....until that day in 2010. I hope to catch it again Oct 14 before it heads west to Chicago.

@apl1031 - it would be interesting to see the interior view of the car. I know it used to hold 56 coach and 18 lounge seats in the dome prior to Amtrak. 36 more in the lower bar/lounge. I wonder if it's the same layout.

@Trainlover4ever2006 - Ocean View is usually out west running on the Surfline between L.A. and San Diego. I don't think it will be on the Maple Leaf anytime soon. :(

Great video. Thanks. My husband and I live in CT and plan on one day getting a rail pass and taking the Adirondack from New York to Montreal getting off at towns along the way and then taking the train from Montreal to Quebec City. My ancestry is French Canadian from Quebec. We love Amtrak.

very nice ive rode on the north east corridor on the regional down to baltimore maryland behind an amtrak AEM-7 and i thought it was fun but we rode from syracuse to penn station where we were delayed two hours ... was a fun day of travel lol glad ta see ya today too alex :)

@ConrailSD70MAC i bought a southern pacific gp60 for my n scale layout and i custom weathered it by putting it next to a candle and melting the plastic so it looks like it wrecked its a motorless engine made from plastic but i thought it would be cool to add to my layout and me and my daddy are planning on ailfanning in huntington on colombus day weekend if ur interested :)

I often see this train in the evening near Central station Montreal when I hang out @ Peel Basin. Now I have extra reason to try and catch it with this beaut! Was wondering when it would show up this year.

@jamie514 - The dome will be on the Adirondack from Sept 23 to October 21th. Four weeks. Thu, Sat, Mon - to Montreal. Fri, Sun, Tue - to Albany.

Great report! You did a nice job talking to the camera, and as a cameraman too. All passengers cars should have a dome on it, it makes the trip pretty much interesting.

@DaringDramis - thanks for the compliments, but I was a bit nervous when I was standing infront of the camera.

Just about every streamlined passenger train (Canada & US) had a dome car (or several dome cars) in it's consist. One exception was the New York Central. They had low clearances and a dome car wouldn't clear certain places. The CB&Q was one railroad that had dome cars in almost every passenger train. The joint CB&Q-Rio Grande-Western Pacific California Zephyr had 4.

@DaringDramis - Superliners have replaced the domes on regular Amtrak Trains. In Canada, VIA Rail still operates with several Budd domes. Many other domes have been preserved and/or are operated by private operators.

Every fall Amtrak brings out the dome car on the run from NY York city to Montreal so riders can see the fall colors and the beautiful scenery during the ride. Nice catch by the way!!

I've known about the dome car service on the Adirondack since 2007 but never had the opportunity to see it. When I read a news bulletin from Amtrak about the dome car being used again, I jumped on the chance. It was great to see it.

Railpace Magazine had a one page article about the Super Dome on the Adirondack in the January 2008 issue. I brought that magazine issue with me that day.
