Gayness. I'm reading the book now and I would sour the rich flavor of a true classic by watching a movie that takes short cuts. I really hope to see a mini series come out so they can go in intricate detail without trying to cram everything into just under 2hr. long film, doing so undoubtedly robs it of all those small unique touches which looked at as a whole makes it so great a story.. A map in wooden crucifix? C'mon you rob the character Faria of his genius and thus the story by improvisation
I saw the one made in 2004 or '06? it was terrible. Then I saw a Black and White one that was awful. And Then I saw the Japanese anime version- which was the best so far.
and I've never saw this version before- but I should give it a shot.
And for everyone who has never read the book- read it.
My all time favorites... I still gets goosebumps when watching the scene where Monte Cristo enters the bank with the background music. WoW!! That little entrance scene creates the strength and power of the character like no other...
Amazing Writing by Alexandre Dumas, Directing by David Greene and Acting by Richard Chamberlain.
which version has the hottest chick!? i cannot decide between the french 1998 and the usa/gb 2002 version... i have only seen those two and would rather not talk about this version. ;)
I love this version. Although I wonder why he would have ripped shoes after a few years in prison. All he did was sat there. Other than that it's hte best one. My second fave was with cutey Jim Caviezel.
I second, this one is the best ever. Great drama at times... have you guys seed the part when Edmond (the count) meets Mercedes after 14 years? wow! And the part where Abe Faria and Edmond talk about teaching living and dead languages, math, etc... wow!!!
From the three American versions of Count of Monte Cristo (1934, 1975, 2002) this one is closest to the book. Chamberlain also delivers one of his best performances.

Richard Chamberlain's Count Of Monte Cristo and The Man In The Iron Mask are the best to date, no doubt about it for me.
