Billy is giving them heck and I think this is why hes such a great manager - standing up for his team!

Plus the call was really terrible, so the ump is getting what he deserved. Thats why Ria Cortesio, the other umpire, just stands by and lets the manager rip into the first base ump.

The female umpire is Ria Cortesio and her contract was not renewed for the 2008 season.

You don't spend 4 years in Rookie/A ball and 5 years in AA and get renewed. It just doesn't happen no matter who you are or how good you are. I'm suprised PBUC let her have a 5th season in AA. Most guys don't get a 5th season in AA ball even if they were rated as high as she was.

I'm shocked to see the long hair on the 2nd umpire. I had to do a quick look up to make sure that the Biscuits were not some semipro team. Turns out they are in the MiLB.

Actually, they are in the Southern League (AA). MiLB(dot)com is the short form of minorleaguebaseball(dot)com; there is no league called the MiLB.

I umpired a few Babe Ruth league games (ages 13-15 and 16-18) with Billy Gardner (the manager in the video) back in the early to mid 80's. He had definitely gone over to the dark side now. :-)

Thx for posting this to YouTube - the minor leagues don't get enough publicity - however this is a negative display on Gardner's account. BUT, he was absolutely Right to contest it. It was a Bad Call on the ump's account - he was completely wrong.

Chances are she will not make it. It is so rare for ANY umpire in AAA (male or female) to get the ONE shot of being a MLB umpire. 3 years or so in AAA and she's done if she doesn't make it.
