From the below story we can know that krishna loves his devptees so much that when lord shiva taking poison and made his neck blue. lord krishna left his golden/beautiful pearl complexion and took blue as his complexion. lord krishna can appear in any color and complexion as his devotees want him.but there should be pure love like the gopis who always see him in megh varna or shyam varna.

During the churning of the ocean lord vishnu had taken the avatar of the tortoise on whose back the mandar parvat was kept so when the halahal poison came out, the gods and demons rather from the place, the poison ooze out and went through the body of vishnu who had taken the avatar of tortoise hence in that avatar his body became blue as of the color of poison, the poison was taken by lord shiva in his throat and he became nilkanth, seeing his pure devote shiva, krishna appears in blue color
