It's at its best for pressure-point combat and close combat, but I would prefer a knife, but this will do its job especially in unarmed combat. It will also do if you encounter retarded individuals, I used it in a wrist lock and the guy pissed his pants.

I think kubatons are stupid because for it to be effective as a non-lethal option you would have to keep it in a pocket or in some sort of sheath. The idea of putting it in a bag is useless because in order to use it you have to tell the attacker to wait while you open your bag and take it out. It also doesn't work on a keychain. Who wants a giant stick hanging from their keys and ignition? Nothing a closed knife or a pen or even a crayon can't do.
