  • Andrew...the ARP 2600 was used in conjunction with a Hammond organ for Won't Get Fooled Again. I think you are misunderstanding everyone else. Good demo though.

  • lol. Has anyone ever found and ARP 2600 at a Goodwill. It's a dream of mine. Nice job. I bought a Berkshire TBO on eBay for $100 but had to pay $800 to have it delivered. I could never sell it for near $900 though.

  • I just got a new camera so I'm going to make a new and improved video this week hopefully! Thanks for everyone's support!

  • yup, that's it.

  • I have wanted to see this on the actual organ (or in the same family) for years. Thanks so much!

  • thanks for the upload .. thats sounds intrigued me for decades..nice one..

  • I've made a simple VST to emulate this effect. It's not the same and I need to fix the timing but it's my first attempt to VSTs. Since it's not a "MIDI Effect" you have to use a "modular" VST Host. sites.google.com/site/3mptyslab/Marimba_Repeat_Emu_BAD.rar just connect you input device to my vst to a VSTi to try it.

  • Absolutely spot on! There is no doubt at all in my mind that this is THE instrument (or a very closely related instrument) that Townshend played on the original track.

  • Sorry, but you have the best voice!!! you sound like the comic book guy from the simpson's.

  • @ThePhotomusic Haha, very kind. It's from listening to too many Mitch Hedberg stand-up specials. And a large nose.

  • @DelRockford This is my new account, by the way. You guys can listen to me play the Lowrey and sing in my nasally, lispy voice at your own discretion.

  • Andy and others, if you open up the back of the Lowrey, there is a panel dedicated to the repeat function that has a speed potentiometer that can be adjusted to increase or decrease the tempo of the repeat function. Couple ticks up and you're right where you need to be for Baba O'Reilly.

I have an old TLO-R, not TBO or its kin (with mythical Marimba Repeat tab) and the plain old repeat (which I think Andy used here) seems to replicate Baba O'Reilly just fine.

Will try to post video later.

  • @LeeH3377 I didn't know about the speed potentiometer. THANKS A LOT. My repeat function sounds good but it's useful to know.

Do you know how to operate the 'Virtuoso' function/s on the model of the same name (TLOK-V)? I have tried everything. I don't think it's broken. I just don't know how.

Is it easy to reconnect the cassette tape recorder so that I have a signal in and out? I can't play or record anything! The tape transport works ok though as does the volume. You sound quite knowledgeable.

  • lol -- well it's not quite Baba O'Riley... not even close actually. But it is a good demonstration of the Marimba Repeat function that Townshend used.

  • Damn you are lucky!

  • Hi. I have question about speed/tempo of Marimba Repeat. How you change speed? With some speed knob?

  • Unfortunately, it only has two settings, fast and slow. This is the fastest it'll go, and I don't know if there's some way I can break open the thing to alter the speed or whatever. I wish it went faster, though.

  • OK thanks. But probably TBO-1 have maybe more speed setting because on Baba O'Riley Townshend playing intro in tempo 116 BPM, when drums comes in it's on 114 BPM. And Sally part is on 117 BPM.

  • @Shotec1 Yeah, it's not the same model that I have, unfortunately, but for my intents and purposes it works. Good luck with yours, though.

  • @Shotec1 i think that he also recorded it at like halfspeed on tape then sped it up too...

  • Thanks, guys. Apparently organs like this are pretty common at thrift stores, at least they are around here. I guess I got lucky.

  • how bout in illinois?

  • Yeah, it was at the one in Rock Island, actually, if you're around the QC area.

  • @bassethound22 Yes!!! You are lucky!!! I have waited years to find mine!!!

Lowrey TLOK's are like gold and sound fantastic.

  • That was amazing! good work 11/10

  • AWESOME. Thank you very very much for this.

  • How on earth did you come upon such an organ so cheaply!!!

Great video man, glad you got around to putting it up!
