  • I can understand where you are coming from, same boat here 20 miles to town gas is about the same here in the mountains of Idaho and very few jobs but plenty of wood I am building one for myself on my old 77 dodge truck 318, thanks for the tour of your ride gives me alllot of insight. and your right about what happened in the 70's we go to war with Iran gas will go through the roof, I am also looking into a system that turns used plastic bottles and such into fuel...

  • Hey Sean, I notice you have rails around the truck bed, like Wayne Keith does. Are these rails acting as a radiator?

  • How many miles to the cord do you think you get?

  • @59acres A pound to the mile sometimes better BBB

  • That's great engineering and innovation and all, but on a truck, I don't see the plausibility: How good is that for the engine? In order for you not to gunk up the engine, I would think you'd need to also install a turbo. Not a big deal. Towing, hauling: I would think a lot of towing power would be lost, and hauling; there is no space. Why not get a regular car and run it off of gasoline? Better gas mileage, less money out of your pocket... Just my thoughts.

  • @OfficerPie what happens when gas hits $10 a gallon? exactly.

  • @318Captain Well, seeing as gas is not even at $4 a gallon any more, I'm good with my gas guzzling truck. When gas hits $10 a gallon, quite frankly, none of us will be alive by then, or I will just drive the diesel truck then. Better mileage. But like I said, 13mpgs right now. I have a good paying job that will pay for more than enough of the gas I burn.

  • @OfficerPie Ok...well how about people lime me? Im broke as shit. Got layed off and aint been able to get another "well paying" job. Living 10 miles from town...its totally worth it since theres a ton of woods behind my house. Cant afford anything "better" than the truck I have.

Gas is 3.65 here, on a truck that gets 10mpg thats over an hours wage to go to town and back. Why do I say that? cause no one around here pays you over minimum wage AND gives you shitty hours <15 per week.

  • @OfficerPie so while you go ahead and fill your truck up for $80 or more Ill walk out back and cut up some wood.

and I would love to go diesel.....you buy me a cummins and I gladly would....and promptly convert it to wvo.

  • @318Captain Wow. I'm sorry to hear that, but you can't go blaming "you got layed off" on others, or throwing your grief on them. You drive a 318 correct? How do you get 10mpg? I get 13mpg in my 318 while muddin... By the way, I'm not sure who in their right mind would convert a cummins to wvo. My dad drives about 100 miles round trip every day, I drive about 20ish depending. Gas here is about 3.25 - 3.35. Then again, once I stick a cummins in my truck, I'm gonna get 17+mpg and about $4.50/gal.

  • @OfficerPie M dodge isnt on the road...my Ford with the 351M is.

And the dodge has never seen over 12. the ford never over 10.

  • @OfficerPie Forget about the price of gasoline or diesel that was only part of my motivation for doing this conversion. What happens when you can't get any fuel for your trucks it has happen before in the 70's. This truck is one of the three trucks I own. I have a large supply of scrape wood. Driven 20,000 miles with no gasoline.

  • @OfficerPie I haul trailers with trucks that run on wood. With the work I do I need a truck. I have blown up alot of engines none were because they were ran on wood during ww2 there were millions of cars and trucks that ran on wood there was no gasoline

  • @seanfrench1 I understand. Does it damage the engine at all, as in decrease the life of it? Any loss in power or torque?

  • @OfficerPie No I have built several of these they all wear out from time and mileage just like a normal engine would. I am driving at highway speeds steady with no problem. Measures can be taken to compensate for power losses I can't tell the difference between gasoline or wood see my lastest videos of the f-150. Just drove 225miles today all on wood not a drop of gasoline

  • Hey Shawn, first, thanks for the video. Second, im trying to build a gassifier to hook up my 82 jeep cj 7 and a seperate one to run a generator. I havnt got the full gassifier to work yet, but when I do I was wondering if I hook the suppy from the wood gas into the carberator??

  • How do you keep you engine from filling with wood tar? I have made my own charcoal for years, and I am imagining all that creosote running into you intake.

  • @erichogeland Hello sir, When building these you have to size them to the engine. If the unit is too small you will burn it out quickly too big and you will make tar. This unit is called an imbert and I have modified it to suit my needs.

10,000miles to date on wood. No problems with tar Sean French

  • So this is a gasoline engine being run on synfuel...I've seen diesel generator engines run with wood gas as well. Did you have to make any "major" modifications to the engine? Have you had the truck dyno'd? I'd be curious what if any difference there is in power compared to gasoline. Thanks for posting!!!

  • @MatthewBanchero No too many mods. have to be done, No I haven't had it dyno'd. I did add a supercharger to the engine and I can't tell the difference between gasoline or wood fuel

  • 0.0 if i were blind i'd think i'm at a railway station now, that thing sounds like a locomotive!

good thing it runs on wood gas (nice system you got!), as it'd spend a fortune on gasoline!

  • im working on a small gasifier for a small generator right now, i was wondering what you used for a filter?

  • im working on a small gasifier for a small generator right now, i was wondering what you used for a filter?

  • what happens if you where to get rear ended by someone?

  • @Iseekoutthetruth hasn't happened yet hopefully I will never be able to answer that one.

  • @seanfrench1 I was just wondering if you had some sort of impact valve switch that release's the gas so there is no explosion, do you have to go threw emissions testing on your truck where you live?

  • @Iseekoutthetruth There is on storage on board the gauges you see are vacuum that is driven by the engine so the harder the engine pulls the more gas you make as soon as it stops so does the gasifier. it can't explode unless air is mixed with the gas I do this just before it goes into the engine. On top of the wood fill lid there is a spring loaded latch we call it a puff lid as well as the filter. This will allow any explosions to be released safely. I am in Florida no emissions.

  • @seanfrench1 oh ok that's cool, I used to live in florida 20 years orlando, in arizona now.

  • @Iseekoutthetruth There have been tests done on these trucks as I am not the only one doing it Cali allows 2000ppm and the truck hit an 83ppm so that is cleaner than gasoline. I just had my second visit today with the EPA and they love it.

  • @seanfrench1 thats very kewl

  • @Iseekoutthetruth Uhhh, you don't have to worry about your gas tank exploding? lol
