Nice to see some unexpected culture infused into such a busy airport. Must have been a slow day because this looks like a food court area where I normally stop for a barbecue sandwich whilst changing planes.
Very well danced. Too bad about the strong backlight and the difficulties with videography. A subtle piece to attempt in a public forum like an airport.
That was beautiful. Those guys are STRONG and that girl is fearless. What is the name of the dance? Who are the dancers? Who choreographed it? I'd love to see it again on a stage with a focused audience, but i have to say that the light and space and trees of the airport were really nice. I'd never noticed before.
I thought this piece was beautiful as the art was being ignored by so many - but only caught by a few who savored and appreciated it. This art form, the random act of culture - shows the public that art is a visual experience you are apt to walk away from if you choose.... I loved the timing of the piano and the loud speaker announcement....perfection in its juxtaposition of the crowd showing its utter blindness..... brilliant.
@mctavishquilting It is goregous, I agree. The problem is, it's an airport, and some people really have to get to the concourse and board pronto. It would have been funnier had they done it in the actual gate area.
There is a little history regarding the Random Act's of Culture. It is comprised of choruses, orchestras, dance, opera, from all over the country, etc. Our schools very rarely teach the great arts any longer. It's a way of re-introducing some culture into a country where great culture has been lost. Ask most people who George Fredric Handel is, and most will give you a blank stare. It's probably the finest piece of music ever written. Yet our kids do not even know of it. That's shameful.
It doesn't matter, what counts is that they were there doing their thing. The peace and the message stayed, red neck or not! Random acts of culture, means it doesn't matter who is there, tehy all deserve a little bit of it!
@dickn8 hmmmm....considering the fact that Douglas International is one of the country's busiest hubs, let's assume that many of those travelers (or as you call them, rednecks) were not from the metro Charlotte area (or as you call it, there) nor were they making any statement or judgement, negative or positve, as to the dance or dancers.....or of their want or lack of desire to 'understand'(?) culture...they were simply trying to FIND THEIR GATE AND CATCH A PLANE, it is after all....an airport.
Wonderful The Energy Of The Dancers Wonderful

@23236RVA Well, the whole point is that they blend in to the crowd. Can't exactly go around in full dance get-up and look normal.

if u read it does say "flash dance"....not "flash mob".....so actually its titled correctly

Nice work, but, um not a flash mob. Not even a mob. But nice pas de trois work.

It's like if some even avoid looking...maybe they think they're supposed to give money or something...

It was the principle/message sen to the people, those that choose to appreciate the dance... The Tree Hugger, about saving the earth.

I'm sorry but holding someone in the air and moving about is lame dancing. It doesn't even fit within my definition of dancing.

@pomegranateish
Then your definition of dance is meaningless and shallow.

Beautiful but it's a shame it's on the wrong venue...people are on flight schedules!
Too bad for the performers but would have been captured better in a different place.

wish they would do something like that here in my area-phoenix.

Sad..a lot of people were "too busy" to stop for a sec & appreciate what was going on. Random Act of Culture is a GREAT idea! Love it!

hmmm I guess the rednecks there don't understand culture, not many seemed interested .
