  • Does any body know what type of sauce that is for the Soba noodles

  • You're moving that camera so fast that I get sick when I watch more than 2 videos of yours!!

It's just shaking too much >.<

  • LOL noodles, egg, and egg noodles! :P

  • I love Sagami! Yummy!

  • There are a few Ramen Shops and Izakaya downtown LA around Little Tokyo.

I have been assured by the Japanese Owners and Managers there that they are as close to real Japanese Cuisine as you can get in the USA ... But you should probably check those packaged microwave ramens off you list

  • Thanks to your friend for being a good sport! :)

  • 4:18 shows nabeyaki udon. not what it says on the menu, but that's what it's generally known as in North America. roughly translated as "udon casserole", or udon cooked in pot(implying served in pot as well). nabe = pot(casserole), yaki = cooked(grilled, roasted, all the same word) . on the menu it shows 味噌煮込みうどん (or みそ煮込定食) , which is probably the Aichi pref. version of nabeyaki udon with what looks like: negi onion, shiitake, raw egg, aburaage and udon noodles~ good stuff!

  • So the Noodles, are they similar to the Ramen noodles here in the United States? I appologize if that is a stupid question, I never had japanese cusine to my knowledge.

  • @agumon12

Sorry.. I have never eaten ramen in the U.S. ...

    so I don`t know... sorry..

  • @agumon12 do you mean actual bowls of ramen from restaurants in the US or instant "ramen" from the US? like that Sapporo Ichiban stuff? as far as i can see from the video, what's show are udon and soba noodles, which are different than ramen noodles. in most japanese restaurants in the states, if they serve hot foods along with sushi, they probably also have things like zarusoba (cold soba noodles with soy sauce dip) and nabeyaki udon (udon noodles in a pot with tempura shrimp, fishcakes...)

  • @moxxfactor

I've never had the actual bowls of rammen from a restarunt, I personally don't know if there is a restaraunt where I live that serves that. So yes, I am talking about the instant ramen noodles. haha.

I should go down to the cities and visit my brother sometime and ask him to take me to a Japanese restaraunt. I shall try the zarusoba if they have them.

  • @agumon12 ramen, soba, and udon are all really good noodle dishes from japan. each very different in texture and served with different types of condiments. and some of the soba/udon have interesting names. my favourite is kitsune(fox) udon, which is just served with a soggy piece of aburaage(deep fried tofu). there's tanuki udon, usually with fried bits of tempura batter and narutomaki fishcakes(the star shaped ones with the pink spiral), and i'm sure many people have heard of bukkake udon.

  • @agumon12 The only Ramen noodles I have seen here in the states are the ones you add water and microwave, or boil. I think the end result is probably similar, however they probably don't have flavor packets, but actual vegetables/meat O.o;

  • @agumon12 Soba noodles have better resistance to the teeth than ramen noodles. In addition, soba noodles are made of buckwheat flour and wheat flour ,and are better for health than ramen noodles made only of wheat flour. However, ramen is more delicious than simple soba.becouse ramen comprises delicious soup and many ingredients . But the history of the soba is very long, and taste is not changed too. Please try to eat!

  • @agumon12 I know soba is different than ramen... For one thing, soba is Japanese and ramen is Chinese, and I know soba noodles are made from buckwheat flour... I don't know what ramen is made from though.

  • I do not like for natto to be mixed with soba. However, I like natto.

    (((((((・・;)

  • I do not like for natto to be mixed with soba. However, I like natto.

    (´⌒`;)

  • Soba and Nato = Yuck. Nato is one of the grossest things I have ever had :S

    The menu seems cheap :D

  • Go Joe ! The only way to truly enjoy noodles

  • I.. I feel like starving even that I was just done eating like 6 loafs of bread plus butter and choco-sprinkles as filler.

I WANT SEEAAAAFOOOOODDDD!! SOOOBBAAA *glomp the monitor*

  • traditional way to eat any noodles in japan and mostly china. noodles often represent longevity, to bite off noodles is symbolic of cutting short your life. most of china aren't as freaked out by people who do except on birthdays and other personal celebrations, but in most parts of japan they look with disdain when you obviously bite off your noodles.

  • Oh also that guy is awesome. And his English is really good. I've noticed on your interview playlists, he speaks really well.

  • I do sometimes get bored when the video is 90% menu, but this one was pretty interesting; especially the last couple mins and the demo :)

  • The noodle-guy is adorable!

  • moooore videoos cominnng soooooon ... love it! ^_^

oh yeah, and nice video once again. :-)

  • Hey, I just want to thank you for everything you do. Do you have a contact e-mail somewhere? I'll look for it.

  • @tsukael get on the forum! it's thejapanchannel(dot)com

  • @moxxfactor Great idea! Thank you!!

  • Thank you for the video.

  • Chackie Chan in Japan!

  • me like fish eggs :) yummy! =p

hmmm i tried cold noodles once =_= didnt like it i wonder how can i make it tasty..

  • This is getting me way too hungry. lol. I wanna go!

  • that egg dish looks like chawanmushi cooking with dog and runnyrunny999 have episode on how to make it :)

  • he really looks like jackie chen when he laugh ^^ (its a compliment not something rude beside i am chinees )

  • japan Y R U SO awsome?!?!?

i have a question is the little spoon in the green tea pot there to add the leaves from the green tea? or for sugar or something and do japanese people drink there green tea with sugar or anything in it?

  • @Mahaweilo Can I answer your question instead of TJCD? Green tea 'powder' is in that pot and you can scoop it up as much as you want, then dissolve it in hot water. Generally don't add anything in green tea,so it tastes plain and very bitter. But flavor is good.

  • @Daviysoh ahh thx for the answer. ;D

  • man i love your food and restaurant videos....hungry

  • That last egg dish put me off food for a few months.

  • Hey, I already saw this guy somewhere :) ( 7:00)

Thanks for a interesting ''yummi'' video, dude ! Thumbs up.

  • I had Pho a while back and I received complementary green tea as well...if my memory serves me correctly, I enjoyed some while eating in other Asian establishments too! So...

    GREAT video! Looked delicious!

  • thanks for the riiide :P

  • Looove this...awesome video. I like when we get to see you eat at the establishment. I feel like I can taste it.

  • Have you made a video about tea making yet? I'd really like to know, how Japanese people prepare their tea - maybe the traditional way and a comment on what they use on a every day basis. Loose tea? Powder? Tea bags? What type is the most common? What do people there put into their tea (most commonly): sugar? Honey? Lemon? Milk? Cream?

This is a topic I'd really like to hear more about! =)

Thanks for uploading interesting stuff like this! The guy in the video seemed really nice! Greetings! ^_^

  • @Jemima1377 For green tea nothing is put in it while black tea can vary to taste. What I saw when there was really no set way (Although there are traditional ways to make it it really depends on a persons taste) to make tea and the type of tea varied on peoples taste.

  • Saliva overflow!!! Saliva overflow!!! Saliva overflow!!! Saliva overflow!!!

  • I love Ikura!!!!! :D

  • Would be fun to have Geo-locations with your video's. Maybe put them on google maps/google earth or similar software. But that's probably too much of an effort. Especially if all the existing video's would be taken into account. But on the plus side, viewers could check out specific parts of japan they might be interested in, or learn, after watching a video, "where" they've watched it.

    Thanks for another video!

  • Its so hard to like Japan and still try to look like you arent some kind of weeaboo lol :P

  • Stop trying to make me obese! It's all so yummy!

  • Damn.... I am hungry now.

  • The man slurping the soba noodles is a real PRO!

  • Egg pudding with shrimp.....I think i'm going to puke (*_*)

  • nice place! your meals looks boring but I like your friend's meal better and tasty! by the way the chawanmushi looks sooo good!

  • it seems like Japanese menus always have pictures, and that most Japanese restaurants are chain-restaurants. Is that right ?

  • ^ I like Japan

  • I've never heard of soba tea before. Does it taste like green tea?

    Thanks for another yummy video.

  • Oh, I ate soba before but I didn't slurp it up that fast! What a pro.

  • Thank you for the video, now I'm stuck at work and hungry.

  • Are fish eggs good? They look plain to me lol. Interesting video though :).

  • @SilentDeath901 Those are Ikura (salmon eggs) I think. Quite expensive. They have a unique salty taste to it that reminds you of the sea (sorry, I don't know how to describe). I hated them when I first tried, but now I think they're really nice.

  • Oh man, Now I'm really hungry!

  • Japanese food always seems to look delicious, even if it tastes bad I bet it still looks delicious ^ __ ^

  • i loled at 5:03 hard! funny how they seem to put egg on top of everything!

  • Thanks 2kris2cross!

  • I never knew what I was eating when I was in Japan, but it was always tasted fantastic! hahah

  • plasic beer, ftw!

  • That guy is also in the interviews videos. He speaks English well.

  • I think the egg cups are called chowanmushi? Please tell me if I butchered it...

  • @violett407 You're quite close, it's chawanmushi. Just a minor misspelling I wouldn't call it butchered. =)

  • Did they have anything vegetarian on the menu?

  • holy shit i had a dream about this place i have never seen it before or even been to japan

  • All these food videos make me wanna go back to Japan just so I can eat.

  • I enjoy slurping noodles and soup! I think I'd do alright with the slurping part! Haha you have a cool friend with you!

  • I love the way you say "playlist"...? O.o

  • i will go now and eat!

  • sometimes i just wanna move there just for the food!

  • As a print media graphic designer, I'm really fascinated by the design of their menu. It's great how the Japanese language offers the flexibility to write both vertically and horizontally, greatly benefiting the designer. In America, designers would be lauded for writing text vertically! This Japanese text flexibility allows greater freedom for imagery, which is something a lot of American menus (esp. high-class) frown upon.

I wish more American menus looked like this.

  • damn food is cheap in japan. in Denmark a meal at usually costs 76 DKK/ 15 US Dollars

  • Nice vid as always

  • that food doesnt make me hungry...u.uthen again I never tried it before ...Im curious XD

  • Lol that guy was cool.

  • i take it that you dont like natto too much.

i love those cups that have egg and other surprises. ^.^

  • finally a menu that makes me really hungry

  • Ever since I visited Japan I regard the european kitchen as primitive

    thx for the video again

  • Are those french fries at 1:18? That's not traditional Japanese food :P You trying to play Japan Channel for a fool, restaurant owners?

  • @whoo689 i think those are sugared sweet potatoes :P it's really common there XD

  • @whoo689 That's french fries indeed. It's kinda out of place but it's very popular as snack foods for beer in Japan.

  • haha this guy is awesome, i've noticed from the interview playlist that his english is outstanding...the way he talks is much like a native speaker

  • Comment removed

  • @whoo689 Lol, yes I know he is Australian. I'm talking about the Japanese guy he ate with.

  • @imacellphone ah, yes. I replied before I saw the end of the vid with that guy. oops

  • aw man, you made me crave soba! Cold soba is the best on hot days.

  • your videos made me hungery lol. thank u for sharing this with us ^-^

    "Lets Subscribe & Thumbs Up"

  • anyone actualy know what yuthuon said or r people just thumbing it up cuz its in japanese

  • @ThisIsMytubeB10ch He said he likes japan. Except grammatically incorrect.

  • That guy at the end is hilarious! He always seems very comfortable on camera.

  • When I was in Okinawa there was nothing I loved more than Yakisoba, that stuff was delicious. With Japanese food in general I didn't have much of a taste for it cold, but hot food generally was better. Anything with noodles I love though!

  • I was eating a burrito during watching this video, this video made me feel a bit outdone. T.T

  • Comment removed

  • you eat out a lot, don't you? :)

and yes, natto is so smelly-do you like it?

  • nanika, if i eat whatever i want in japan, the airplane won't fly up

  • that's the guy from your interviews at the end! That soba thing looks like some kind of dessert but when I think it's egg I lose the apetite for it

  • For that last part, the egg bowl.

I loved all the ingrediant mix except I do not do well with cooked vegetables. I know, thats in everything these days.

But besides looking funny, would it be so strange or bad to ask for the vegetables to be left out?

  • Do you eat out with people and show their food, or do you go up to strangers and ask to film their food? lol

I commend you for your courage if its the latter, but either way, interesting.

I mean it looks like the former, but curious if you ever go up to strangers and ask.

  • LoL at 2:50 "chiken innards hahahaha...."

  • That's a lotta noodles to eat in one go. Was he in a hurry?

  • That made me hungry... >.>

  • thats the same guy you teach english to

  • awesome!!! i want to go to japan sooo sooo bad :D

  • Wouldn't be called Zaru-Soba?

  • I hate that egg stuff.I was forced to eat it when I was a kid and i can still remember the taste lol .Thanks for another great vid from your channel :) PS theres a video for all the people who use the dislike button.look up Avery-(GSY)

  • the 'egg pudding' looks like a custard

  • Just a quick question. Have you ever been to Tokyo?

  • Press 7 hehhuhhuuuh

  • This looks sooo great ....I would realy like to be in Japan....NOW.....=)

  • Seems like in everything Japanese there's a little leeway for fun. With Soba, you get to slurp them loudly. Although, I hear everyone else at the table is supposed to go "om nom nom nom" as you do it, but that could be just a rumor.

  • You must earn a good amount out there to be able to keep affording to visit restaurants!

  • おいしそうね~

  • Great video,. I was wondering if the larger cities have an English menu? The pictures and plastics are good but you can't really tell what's underneath or the type of meat.

  • @smallfish42

    Occasionally..

We have some videos coming on that subject...

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Hey when you say "we", who exactly are you referring to? You seem to be the only one that we hear from in the videos, not including the interviews.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom do you have anything on business etuquette, especially as a woman? I heard women get treated differently regarding business... it would help alot...

  • @smallfish42 haha, don't count on it, I was on Tokyo and you'll already be lucky if you get a menu that's Japanese written in Roman characters(Western).

But if you're wondering what's beneath the dishes, it's rice most of the times.

I kinda noticed that the meat for toppings and ramen is often pork, they don't use beef as much as toppings.

Most of the times you can tell what kind of meat it is.

The places that might have English menu's are chains like Coco's curry house etc...

  • @smallfish42 those are rare, but big western style restaurant for visitor (people visiting japan) often got a separate English menu.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Tempura shrimp... Always good stuff. The same for tonkatsu.=) Green tea is always good stuff. I also like Japanese chicken dishes. And yea. I used to think the sucking thing with noodles in Japan was weird, but I guess it shows the chef that the chef did a great job and that when you eat it making the loud slurping, it shows that it's really good.

  • Who still plays where's the egg in the food playlist?

  • Pudding with shrimp, egg, and chicken....YUM

  • @unchiekun noise mouth words? 0/10 but you get a cookie for originality

  • "hes a good sport isint he? thats the correct way to eat spo.. soba" XDDDD

  • Yummy @_@

  • You are making me hungry! : 0

  • A lot more classy than a chain here in the US. The food looks great also.

  • 私日本好き。

  • @yuthuon

    Thank you.

The education not to make Japan proud after World War II in Japan has been done. However, they have been understood with the pure falsehood from the spread of the Internet. Japan is a very good country.

  • @yuthuon Nothing wrong with your grammar. It was just very casual way of speaking.

  • Even if I dont have time to watch whole video ,I give a thumb up ! You Should do the same thing so: "LETS PUNCH LIKE BUTTON !" Its always nice to hear: "More videos coming soon." Btw who is that guy .....English teacher ?

  • @DanteDuhDevil whoever he is, he seems like an awesome person to hang out with =D

  • @UltimatePwnageNL Yup I think so too.

  • The miso cutlet is unnamed almost excluding the Tokai region.

I do not want to eat the miso stew noodle in summer.

  • arigato for the video! =)

  • cold soba noodles ftw

  • Everything looks tasty, looks like a good place. I just wanna try it!

  • IMO, I think the best sobas come from Okinawa but then again its my opinion.

  • Your videos make me hungry....

  • Somewhere in Japan there is a company that makes plastic fake food to show the public what the menu items look like..that would be a cool job to have!

  • @Midnightryder7 machines do the gist of it, you'd probably be stuck painting. :P

  • how cool, love the videos man, will help me alot when i move to japan in the somewhat near future. I am wondering if you can make a video of Ichiran, its a noodle shop in tokyo that i am hearing a lot about but havent really seen videos of it. Thanks!
