  • "(from previous...) An incentive to further frolic only. If this discourages you in any way, please have the courtesy to refrain from voicing superficial remarks regarding our music and/or personae. We are as unknown to you as we always were."

  • In 1999 the group declared:

“Ulver is obviously not a black metal band and does not wish to be stigmatized as such. We acknowledge the relation of part I & III of the Trilogie (Bergtatt & Nattens Madrigal) to this culture, but stress that these endeavours were written as stepping stones rather than conclusions. We are proud of our former instincts, but wish to liken our association with said genre to that of the snake with Eve... (continues...)

  • why is everyone so opposed to people placing music into genres? ok fair enough some people do get carried away.. but identifying music into genres helps others find other musicians with a similar sound. otherwise how would they know where to look?

  • @MrMerlin87, because 90% of the time it leads to pointless genremasturbation and even more pointless bitching. yeah, i do get the basic idea what you're going to do with it but barely ANiYONE is as sensible with it as you seem to. i myself browse by bands by people, not by genres. there are sites like encyclopedia metallum that link bands with people. its easy to see what the guy has done, and what other bands he's linked to. then its just a matter of checking the name out. tadah! problem solv'd

  • What album is this on. It's not on Perdition City...

Oh wait this is Limbo Central. Sorry. Literally just clicked in my head xD

  • What album is this on. It's not on Perdition City...

  • Why is everyone opposed to a band evolving and changing their sound? Fucking genre snobs...

  • listen both!! ;)

  • anyone tells me what genre of music is this? o.o

  • @JosePablo24 Electronic, Ambient.

  • If you care about genres? You can go out and fuck yourself. I listen to every kind of music, this is called openminded.

  • @TheYersinia666 caring about genres doesn't mean you're not open minded.

  • ahhh i prefer Nocturnal depression

  • Their* old stuff, even! >.>

  • I really really really dig there old stuff, especially Nattens Madrigal, but even as a black metal fan I have to admit, this is pretty funky! :D

  • BOTH new and old Ulver are equally amazing, but the new one has more originality.

  • Thats evolution , that is Art.

  • what song is this??

  • Its a truly DEAD argument isn't it? Genre labels music not people. Just listen to whatever the hell you like.. and stfu.

  • these are musical genius

  • @RogerSteve1994 so true !!!

  • This video is perfect for this song! I never even knew this was made.

  • from which album is this?

  • @dario180585 from the ep Metamorphosis

  • @deopisi thanx

  • Music has no boundaries! Masterpiece!!!

  • Ulver are musical geniouses, both new and old are great... I view it as a travel through time.

  • @hawkdown69 shut the fuck up. why dont you do them? come on, put out a few albums. lets hear it. ill waste my money on them. you obviously do not know one thing about art.

  • @hawkdown69 Comparing the two periods as you do is like saying "Ludwig van Beethoven owns Miles Davis" : you're not forced to like both, but you can't compare them for they have nothing in common.

  • wat song is this?

  • @subhumanmaster Limbo Central (theme from Perdition City)

  • 100%

  • @Dsanchez1979 very good experimental/electronica

  • do you really know black metal?

  • What a classic album. This was one of my favourites at university. Thanks for posting the video.

  • Stop comparing Ulver's new and old. That would be as stupid as comparing black metal with ambient experimental...which is exactly what every one is doing.

Listen to this or listen to their old stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • Or both.

  • listen to both -or don't

  • @LEG0B0Y ...or listen to both. I agree with you: we can't compare them. But I like the two periods as two completely different bands.

  • @EvanMetalReaper although we cant directly compare them, it´s still something ulver-ish about their stuff, if I were to suddenly stumble upon something new from them, I would most likely recognize them, and yes, I also do listen to both new and old ;)

  • @LEG0B0Y Why not listen to both?

  • @LEG0B0Y or listen to both, that is what I am doing... :)

  • @LEG0B0Y or listen to both.

  • @LEG0B0Y or listen to both!

  • @LEG0B0Y

Is that the inclusive or exclusive 'or'?

  • @LEG0B0Y Every Ulver album is different, has new things to explore, that keeps Ulver fresh and always new.

    Totally agree with you there.

  • @LEG0B0Y or listen to both and enjoy !

  • @LEG0B0Y

    or listen to both!! :)

  • @80smetalchild I think I've literally received the reply to listen to both at least two dozen times.

  • @LEG0B0Y

well it is a year old comment... i apologize

  • @LEG0B0Y

actually you should shut the fuck up.

Perhaps people should not compare but it it there option, and as for their black metal vs what they do now, it really doesn't fucking matter. It's Kristopher Rigg and his music period. Thus it all comes form the same guy, people are free to like it all or just some if they fucking choose. You are not the maker so you have no right to even begin to tell people what to listen to or say about his music because you have nothing to fucking do with it.

  • @Ascellius Wow, I've never gotten such a pissy response to a comment that's over a yeard old.

The point I was making was that you can't compare Ulver's new to Ulver's old. Jesus.

  • @LEG0B0Y i dont understand how they could do such a change. Btw, i rather listen to both

  • @LEG0B0Y agree apart from last bit. I say listen to both but don't compare. It's not hard to do.

  • @LEG0B0Y Both are so good though?!

  • Ulver would never regret their black metal roots and for you're information black metal is considered the most open-minded metal genre and surely NOT retarded

  • Then again. Saying that black metal is better than some other genre of music is in many ways stupid since its all about taste, wheter you like it or not.

I for one think what ulver has become is much more than any band playing black metal could ever be. You can only do so much if you limit yourself to a genre.

  • @Findulidas Do you listen to black metal? I doubt you know much about it judging from your favorites and you shouldn't go around saying one genre isn't better than another and then saying Ulver is more than any black metal bands.

  • @dakotamanomgwtf Actually Ive listened almost only to diffrent genres of metal before including some old black metal bands like mayhem, dimmu borgir, burzum, immortal, emperor, old agalloch songs, summoning songs and many more than I could ever remember. Just that Ive since then Ive moved away from metal and only listen to it time to time. Most of the black metal I didnt like but really I say that about almost all bands in whatever genre I hear so that doesnt really mean anything.

  • Lmao no way black metal is the most open-minded genre of metal music. Seriously what are you thinking? 96-97% or higher of black metal sounds identical. Exactly the same. Ulver was one of the few original bands, but you can only do so much in black metal. Oh and Ulver is way better now.

  • Genres are not open minded, only people and I'm not stupid or ignorant enough to label a whole group of people musically narrow minded because of the genre of music they listen to.

  • uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaarrrrrgh....!!!!! fuck the swepping generalisations, and fuck kids with no idea of real passion for music, and fuck discussions about black metal ideologies.!!! this is music friends. i'll know have a hooka with this mystic tunes, hail ulver and fuck you who don't know the meaning of their words. music=life progress=life life=the matter of death

  • What song is this??

Its not on Perdition City I don't think.

  • The song is "Limbo Central" from the "Metamorphosis" Ep

  • just great love the clip

  • ei???

  • Yeah, yeah, the preteens are TOTALLY looking to see Immortal on tour with 50 cent and Kanye West. Also, if black metal is for kids, why is it mostly adults that listen to it?

  • Comment removed

  • yeah I'm 16 and I really was into black metal for a while but besides ulver for me its something you grow out of. Watching some black metal bands in Kiss makeup and running around in a forest was kinda a turn off (IMMORTAL!). I mean its fun for a while and the stories about varg are hilarious but it gets old.

  • @neutronhomer12: There's a difference between listening to Black Metal because you like the music and listening to black metal because your friends does and you think it makes you seem tough. You fall in under the last category by the way... under TOOL.

  • I did like the music then I started reading about varg vikerness and other killers related to black metal, I listened to Darkthrone, Dimmu, Rotting Christ, Emperor, Immortal, Marduk, Gorgoroth, Burzum, Dissection etc. I'm sick off racist facist shit. I sick of fucking forests and people breathing fire. I'm tired of the generic black metal band and people ripping off of Bathory. I even got my friends into black metal. I still listen to Agalloch, borknagar, Bathory and enslaved. But I'm done now

  • Agalloch is a fuckin great band!

    And so is Ulver!

  • yeah I listen to them are you agreeing with me or what.

  • Of course I do. I just so Agalloch live, so I decided to get some of their stuff (The Matle and Ashes against) and finally I found Ulver, through Agalloch.

  • How was agalloch live I really want to see them.

  • Agalloch was great in my opinion.

I would love to see Ulver live... :-(

    Maybe in the future!

But I would love to enjoy another Agalloch concert, as well.

The sound was shit at the place, but the music and the band...

    great!

  • Umh, aren't sweeping generalisations mostly for kids and pre-teens?

  • Why? If you want to listen children music, there is plenty of other black metal bands doing it better than ulver did

  • claps!!!

  • sounds like trip-hop

  • Contains samples of 'Brown paper bag' from Roni Size and reprazent ;)

  • This is post-norwegian black metal genre or norwegian avantgarde. This song are from 'Metamorphosis' EP previous to 'Perdition city album' for me, the best album. :)

  • you metal fans gotta label everything dont you?

  • what kind of music are they?

  • An eccletic soulfull array of eccentric synthpop.

    And shit.

  • Experimental (after their initial black/[neo]folk metal albums anyway).

  • now 6 :)

    grettings from southamerica, Chile

  • five.

  • That makes two of us, only a few agree..

Hail Ulver! Greetings from the Netherlands.

  • Three. Greets from Romania.

  • Great! Greetings.

Ultimul album Shadows of the sun)e mai mult ambiental, folosind la greu instrumentele electronice. Oricum incadrarea in genuri, mie personal, mi se pare un pic useless.

  • make that 3.

greetings from the epicenter of mediocrity, midwest USA

  • Great! The Epicenter of Mediocrity? Interresting.. Greetings.

  • That makes two of us, only a few agree..

Hail Ulver! Greetings from the Netherlands.

  • why does wiki call this BM

  • ulver's first 3 albums were BM.

  • omg wiki is for stupid people. ulver is one of the greatest bands yah. great osts and great bm albums. i like that music both.

  • zOMGWTF! BBQFTW!

But seriously, cool song =) I love Ulver.

  • the best Ulver video and album

  • lovely

  • The feeling in the old and new is the same=D...allthough i do kinda miss the folkish thing too:(
