the way i see it, rock music in the 80's and 2010's wasn't bad, the good stuff was just underground. music media & record labels weren't willing to take risks. in the 80's you had sonic youth, dinosaur jr, all the bands on sst & sub pop etc, last decade awesome innovative bands like boris and comets on fire did some of their best work, and its been a golden age for psychedelic & 'experimental' bands. scratch beneath the surface, get involved =)
@DimebagsLeftToe Dimebag, I don't know who you are, but I'm feeling exactly what you're feeling. I think this everyday. It's not me being cocky, it's me being confident in the future. I can already tell you'll create something great, and I know I will. I'm only an 18 year guitar player from Iowa, but I've been conjuring up some pretty wicked stuff the last few years. Now I just need people/band to collaborate with.. I promise you all, good is to come.
good to see kids into real music, dimebagslefttoe go for it, light the fucking world on fire with something new that still pays its respects to the old. you have all us oldskool rock fans chanting for ya.
Rock will always be, even in times not much "mainstream exposure" people will always make rock. Try Dead Meadow, they've been round for a while, really seventies kind inspired music. I love Soundgarden!
theres just something about music that PEOPLE make, and by people i mean the artists playing it not some songwriters that give songs to these shitty bands that are around now, a new decade is coming up and i hope rap goes down and these shitty bands break up and real music can return
dude, if youre in, im in. the teens of the new millennium is the decade where this type of awesome rock will come back. men will be men, music will be made. ill be on the front lines, hope youll all be there, hope ill be making music with you all. the 80s (mostly) sucked but the 90s ruled, its a pattern see. real music will return and all these shitty bands will be out of business because everyone will want awesome rock.
well, first of all im getting ahead of myself. im 16, live in orange county, dunno what your situation is, yeah i jam with a few guys but nothing huge, just saying its my plan
good to see I'm not the only one who is trying to help bring real music back. I'm expecting something amazing to come into the music scene this new decade, and eliminate all the crap that is considered music nowadays
@DimebagsLeftToe Dimebag, I don't know who you are, but I'm feeling exactly what you're feeling. I think this everyday. It's not me being cocky, it's me being confident in the future. @DimebagsLeftToe I hope I'll be right there with you :D And you're right..think about it, late 60s and 70s kicked ass mostly, then the 80s mostly sucked, early 90s brought it back, and it left again. this backwards culture is ready for a change. lets give it to them!
@DimebagsLeftToe totally with you on that one man. I go to the university of iowa, and soundgarden is what helps me get through my day. i play guitar, and hopefully this heavenly music will skyrocket soon.... i cant take much more of this stupid synthisized shit
I still remember the first time I heard this song. I didn't really like the beginning and then the 0:15 second mark hit and it was just freakin' awesome and I listened to it over and over.
i'm a guy, but i agree it looked great... back then when Badmotorfinger came out (some 17 years ago or so), i stood on my balcony in minuses/December with long hair watching my breath in the air imitating Cornell with his powerful stage-antics... what a band that was!! curious what screams he produces on his brand new 'Scream'... none of those, prbly...
@Nirvaaanaa I feel that the label of grunge seems describes a time and a place instead of the music. I mean Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam all have pretty different styles
Yeh! Hair-metal took a real beating by these guys. Guys like Metallica obviously struck gold though with a more mainstream musical approach with the black album. (cant argue with teh salesfigures of the black album :))
I always wondered what kind of people could actually identify with hair-metal, all those bands seemed so full of themselves & most of their songs where about how great they thought they were & how many silly groupies they had done.
I think bands like Soundgarden won out because they had the human element & they were regular people like you or i, instead of being MTV cartoon characters like Bon Jovi or poison...
They made people believe that you could make music on your own terms again..
Metal is the best... I like grunge but metal is the best. Not new growl/scream shit, I'm talkin old metal. Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica
grunge is metal in particular the bands soundgarden and alice in chains they are metal, grunge was just the name of the scene though some bands from the grunge scene were more punk than metal, like screaming trees and nirvana
Grunge basically took over metal in the 90s. Metal was still big, but not commercially like grunge eventually became. Metal is making a big come back though, Priest making a new album, Motley Crue new album, Sabbath new album.
hmm... well yes Nirvana has punk influence, but Screaming Trees and for example Pearl Jam have blues-rock influence like Cream, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Soundgarden too; sorry for my poor English...
they say soundgarden ahs the biggest Black Sabbath influence and style. that was the best thing about grunge all bands derived from great ones to make others. all the while yet so diverse in their group. grunge is the shit!!!!
Please don't ever mention Pearl Jam and Nickelback in the same sentence. Pearl Jam is second to Soundgarden. Matt Cameron wouldn't be their drummer otherwise.
I love how they do the opposite of what most bands would do live (speed up their songs), it sounds so much more bad ass when slowed down cus they let all the sound just resonate naturally.

Yeah, groove is the word. I wouldn't say that term can be used only for heavier music. Talking of which, the second part of Domination by Pantera has excellent groove.
Grunge were a group of bands not a genre their will never be grunge again because their will never be another AIC Soundgarden Nirvana Pearl Jam etc.
