Brian Plummer a great man , i have many of his books , you can see when he realizes Richard has been bitten he has a right good chuckle to himself then quickly puts on a straight face
That wasn't a real bite!! I adopted two 1 year old girls today and they haven't been handled much. Now they bloody well bite. I'm so sore!! Bite training is going to be long and painful :oS
RIP "Twice nightly Whiteley" or as he sometimes changed it to & called himself "Once yearly Nearly" such a nice guy as far as I could tell not knowing the man just watching him for years, Interestingly I never knew that his fist name is actually "John" & "richard" was his Middle name, I wonder if "Richard" was used because of Equity? or just because he liked "Richard" more? ...Anyone?
@verkaforever Why do you think Dr Plummer an idiot? He makes a perfect comic foil in this hilarious situation. One of the best live moments of British TV I've seen.
@burnzgotshot I didn't know Dr Plummer was dead. I would not have made that comment if I had. I said he was an idiot because he acted like nothing was the matter when Richard was clearly in pain. But perhaps I was a bit harsh. There's many bigger idiots on TV. As you said, R.I.P. both.
@verkaforever I don't think Dr Plummer was being arrogant or mean, he was a pretty eccentric character and could be quite facetious at times. He said at the end of the clip that the jill was only playing and if she had meant it she would have gone to the bone. As bad as it looks on Richard Whiteley I belive Dr Plummer would have been less nonchalant if the jill was doing any real damage.
As comical as it was it still must have smarted so hats off to Mr Whiteley for being a good sport.
Bless ... al baby ferrets do that, it was just trying to play with him. If you tickle them behind the haunches they go all silly and lay flat on the floor ... most importantly they let go because they are waiting for you to attack ... then you can tell them off by scruffing or a tap on the nose.
Brian used to teach me at school in walsall . He was a hero the stories he could tell were brilliant. Sadly missed. Diary of a rat hunting man one of his books pure genius
It's pretty uncommon for ferrets to bite like that, that's probably why the handler was just chilling. He probably thought the ferret would let go. You see him looking around for someone to take the ferrets from him so he could free the guy. Did you want him to just dump his two on the floor so they could run away? He wasn't dying.
Really you don't need to go to extreme measures like dunking it in water or biting it back Finbarbarfin. You just need to scruff it and due to the fact that it was biting too hard 'hiss' or say 'no' loudly and you can even drag it along the floor a very short distance. If you do drag it do it gently. Mother ferrets would do this to thier kits if they misbehaved so its natural for them. I'd bet the DEW was just trying to stash him in a hidey hole! x3 In other words...it liked him!
Ferrets apparently can lock their jaws. When they bite deep and refuse to let go, the victim can either (so I've been told) dunk them into water - where, fearing they're being drowned, will let go and make for the surface - or, failing that, you (the bitee) can (if you're feeling courageous) bite back, bite into their tails. Both methods seem a little extreme, not to mention improbable. Richard Whitely displays incredible professionalism here, and the handler comes across like a total dickhead.
You can dunk them into water, but obviously don't try to drown your ferret and its also a last solution. There's plenty of others(ferretone on nose/scruff/bitter apple in mouth not on face of course and some others).
You never want to fight aggression with aggression as that does not solve anything and will probably aggravate the ferret (or any animal) even more. So don't bite your ferrets.

You obviously know jack crap about ferrets. They can lock their jaws? Where in the hell did you hear or read that? Yes, you can dunk them in water, one of the best ferret books on the market suggests it, but its NOT recommended or even liked among ferret owners who KNOW what they're doing & BITING them?! Idiot. You scruff them as said & they normally let go out of instinct. If they dont, you find another way but you DO NOT bite them!!Next time you have the urge to give advice like that - DONT.
Hey, okay. You've rumbled me: I'm no authority on ferrets - hence the 'apparently' in the first sentence of that comment. And I personally would never dunk a ferret - or any (*non-aquatic*) animal - into water, or bite any animal. The comment was merely reporting stuff I'd heard from an old farmer who'd had ferrets; I wasn't advocating those particular techniques -as I think comes across in the comment. Kind of amused by the vitriol, and all the 'dude' stuff on a Richard Whitely clip. Jeez.
When a ferret wants something, they get it.. Or someone loses a finger.
