  • When a ferret wants something, they get it.. Or someone loses a finger.

  • Brian Plummer a great man , i have many of his books , you can see when he realizes Richard has been bitten he has a right good chuckle to himself then quickly puts on a straight face

  • @gunner17722 And RIP to them both

  • That wasn't a real bite!! I adopted two 1 year old girls today and they haven't been handled much. Now they bloody well bite. I'm so sore!! Bite training is going to be long and painful :oS

  • Now what I'm HOPING that somebody puts up somewhere is the follow-up to this, where that poor interviewer met Kenny Everett... who bit his finger!

  • I think twice nightly Whitely would have been justified in bashing the 'orrible little thing on the table to get it off!!

  • lol

  • that brian plumber was my god father oh how I miss him (he died a while back)

  • RIP "Twice nightly Whiteley" or as he sometimes changed it to & called himself "Once yearly Nearly" such a nice guy as far as I could tell not knowing the man just watching him for years, Interestingly I never knew that his fist name is actually "John" & "richard" was his Middle name, I wonder if "Richard" was used because of Equity? or just because he liked "Richard" more? ...Anyone?

  • aawww ferret kiss

  • Ouch, that's gotta hurt...

  • @cuagusgiorrai What do you mean he 'had real problems'?

  • CHOMP!!!!! Dude, I don't think he likes you.

  • The ferret owner is an idiot! R.I.P. Richard Whitely.

  • @verkaforever Why do you think Dr Plummer an idiot? He makes a perfect comic foil in this hilarious situation. One of the best live moments of British TV I've seen.

    R.I.P to them both.

  • @burnzgotshot I didn't know Dr Plummer was dead. I would not have made that comment if I had. I said he was an idiot because he acted like nothing was the matter when Richard was clearly in pain. But perhaps I was a bit harsh. There's many bigger idiots on TV. As you said, R.I.P. both.

  • @verkaforever I don't think Dr Plummer was being arrogant or mean, he was a pretty eccentric character and could be quite facetious at times. He said at the end of the clip that the jill was only playing and if she had meant it she would have gone to the bone. As bad as it looks on Richard Whiteley I belive Dr Plummer would have been less nonchalant if the jill was doing any real damage.

As comical as it was it still must have smarted so hats off to Mr Whiteley for being a good sport.

  • @burnzgotshot I agree. Richard Whitely was a really nice chap. Countdown will never be the same without him.

  • l love the way that the bloke in the red top is so relaxed about the whole situation

  • Poor Richard RIP

  • Fuck that i'll bite his ass back little fucker

  • lmao tell me about it x

  • Have been searching for this for years!

Indeed, one of TV's great moments, plus a great demo of Brit sang froid under extreme pressure.

  • This was not an out take - it was aired live! I remember seeing it, we were all in tears laughing. It's one of the great moments of British TV!

  • Bless ... al baby ferrets do that, it was just trying to play with him. If you tickle them behind the haunches they go all silly and lay flat on the floor ... most importantly they let go because they are waiting for you to attack ... then you can tell them off by scruffing or a tap on the nose.

  • The ferret owner is a tosser!

    R.I.P. Richard Whitely.

  • Brian used to teach me at school in walsall . He was a hero the stories he could tell were brilliant. Sadly missed. Diary of a rat hunting man one of his books pure genius

  • It's pretty uncommon for ferrets to bite like that, that's probably why the handler was just chilling. He probably thought the ferret would let go. You see him looking around for someone to take the ferrets from him so he could free the guy. Did you want him to just dump his two on the floor so they could run away? He wasn't dying.

  • Really you don't need to go to extreme measures like dunking it in water or biting it back Finbarbarfin. You just need to scruff it and due to the fact that it was biting too hard 'hiss' or say 'no' loudly and you can even drag it along the floor a very short distance. If you do drag it do it gently. Mother ferrets would do this to thier kits if they misbehaved so its natural for them. I'd bet the DEW was just trying to stash him in a hidey hole! x3 In other words...it liked him!

  • It was this ferret bite that led to his untimely death. RIP Richard.

  • Ferrets apparently can lock their jaws. When they bite deep and refuse to let go, the victim can either (so I've been told) dunk them into water - where, fearing they're being drowned, will let go and make for the surface - or, failing that, you (the bitee) can (if you're feeling courageous) bite back, bite into their tails. Both methods seem a little extreme, not to mention improbable. Richard Whitely displays incredible professionalism here, and the handler comes across like a total dickhead.

  • DUDE...don't have to go that far, just hold the skin on the back of their necks and they will yawn. works every time and is compleatly painless.

  • @AVGN4life1 yep hahaha ferret puppet

  • WTF?? dude you obviously have no clue what you are talking about....

  • You can dunk them into water, but obviously don't try to drown your ferret and its also a last solution. There's plenty of others(ferretone on nose/scruff/bitter apple in mouth not on face of course and some others).

You never want to fight aggression with aggression as that does not solve anything and will probably aggravate the ferret (or any animal) even more. So don't bite your ferrets.

  • Hey, okay. You've rumbled me: I'm no authority on ferrets - hence the 'apparently' in the first sentence of that comment. And I personally would never dunk a ferret - or any (*non-aquatic*) animal - into water, or bite any animal. The comment was merely reporting stuff I'd heard from an old farmer who'd had ferrets; I wasn't advocating those particular techniques -as I think comes across in the comment. Kind of amused by the vitriol, and all the 'dude' stuff on a Richard Whitely clip. Jeez.

  • Ouch! I'm amazed at how the handler does jack-all to help him too.

  • It's the funniest countdown ever! Better than the kick in the shins eh?

  • Any ferret owner knows that the ferret clearly treasures Whitely and is attempting to stash him in his hidey-hole.

  • haha

    rip richard

  • I love the contrast between their facial expressions, terrible pain versus almost complete disinterest. Poor Richard Whiteley!

  • Ouch

  • Ferret guy was evidently to weasels what Barbara Woodhouse was to canines. "The animal is never at fault."

  • The most stupid thing in my opinion is that he asks Richard to hold the other ferrets when he can see he's having trouble with the one he's got.

  • aww come on, all you have to do is yank on the tail for a second and it will destract them, what an idiot !he does not deserve those ferrets!

  • Actually, smashing it hard at the base of the skull can kill it and cause it to release instantly, I believe.

  • dude...wtf

  • wot an arrogant arsehole that ferret handler is

  • The guy's name is Brian Plummer and he is a wanker of some renown, you're spot on.

  • The owner of the ferret is stupid!

  • brian plummer was a legend one of the best dog men and country men in the uk.rip brian

  • this is classic! so funny when he tries to make him hold the other ones!!

  • hu else thinks the ferrit tamer is a tosser ? "this must be the climax of the situation" lol wanker

  • He is pretty stupid.

  • "She's playing with you."

    LOL!

  • OUCH!

  • put him down he wont hurt u? excuse me hes got his teeth in my finger u silly t**t!

  • Ouch!

  • The laughtrack's realleh loud....but YUM YUM FINGUUUUURSSSSS.....

    *loves fyars.....*

  • you can see him laughing.

  • There was a show shortly after this where Richard Whitely was talking to Kenny Everett. He bit Richard Whitely's finger as well!

  • can't ...stop...laughing!

  • absolute gold dust!!
