This made me sick in 2003 when i saw it, i mean it's too damn realistic and horrifying. I mean it's fucked up to see a dead corpse for real in a live morgue on film getting an autopsy as it's a dead kid and killing a cat for real was fucked up
@Johnlindsey289 i see where you are coming from i can't believe a family let there child be used like that i mean i could see an adult who didn't give a shit in life but a kid seems strange and really morbid the cat i was told was not real or didn't die but it looks like that thing died to me, its a very unpleasant movie i guess they didn't have to go to the lengths they did to make the film but man i think they really got there message across, this movie really let me know about unit 731
@mrparka the boy was real he died in a car crash and his mom and dad let them used it in the movie. and back in the day for hong kong did not have alot of money for special effects back then so they had to use the real thing. they were with the cops for the dead bodies to get them and to use

@DuffBeerDragon yeah barrel was releasing some great underground stuff until they pretty much closed shop. really you would think that something like nekromantik in this day and time would get a rerelease.
@mrparka - I didn't even know about that one......it used to be direct from the filmmakers in Germany, back when it was released, that the tapes were on sale from.

Every time I'm into something, it's really difficult to get anything to do with it. Then a decade or 20 years later when I'm not bothering with it much - I could buy it easy from loads of places...
@DuffBeerDragon lol yeah i mean i remember getting boot leg vhs of cannibal holocaust and violent shit, now you can pretty much find those films or they are slated for release lol
@mrparka - lol, that takes me back - I had a Cannibal Holocaust T-shirt & wore it to gym class in school....that's what the rainforests etc need now - cannibal tribes to get rid of all those bastards trying to chop it down etc..chop them up instead and cook them, shrink their heads and stick them on poles..
Yeah it was a cool hobby to have, the old horror stuff.

i was going to watch this today after work but i got side tracked. i have it all ready to go though, i cant wait. i've been waiting to see this one for about 4 yrs now. i just watched philosophy of a knife, so im in the spirit. im very obsessed with unit 731 all the sudden. anyway, i did a reviw for poak and ill post it tomorrow, i gotta edit it down by 2 minutes. and ill do a review for men behind the sun after i watch it. CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the bad thing is the majority of japanese still continue to lie to themselves saying that these atrocities never happened! fuckin government brainwashed their people! their arrogance from the past still continues to show today! a lot of japanese still think theyre the superior asian race and consider other asian races inferior! if they continue to think like arrogant pricks and hide their past, history could repeat itself again! learn from the past to have a better future!
@koreadude party of the reason for that is the US also covered it up as well. In exchange for the information gained by unit 731 the US agreed not to procuse the leaders of unit 731
i didn't mind the remake of dawn of the dead, the first is my favorite and i should be killed publicly for enjoying the remake but i look at it as a different movie, the poster is cool thou as well, actually got the poster before i saw it because i dug the poster.
the orig man behind the sun is a realistically graphic movie for '88. All the tortures portrayed are also historically accurate. The part when that crazy jap in the crematory chopping and burning bodies was very disturbing.
@CantWaitUntil2012 you should be able to dl begotten free (and legally) i think through the google film collection (i think that's where i got it, but kind of hard to remember). it's definately original and worth checking out. it MIGHT be where aronofsky got the inspiration for the look of pi (the black and white effect anyway).
you can get a shiny brand new dvd of it at amazon for only $854.00 :) (the used ones are about $90). yea, pi was awesome but very tame by your standards :)
during the autopsy scene, i never actually seen the heart beating in the scene that is supposedly the scene with the real body but hell might be all a hoax
the fact that this shit ACTUALLY happened is horrible.
honestly, mengeles (or however the nazi bastard's name is spelled) exploits pale in comparison to the horror that was Shiro Ishii.
whats even more fucked up is the fact that NONE of the people responsible have been brought to justice.
the nurses in auschwitz hanged, the nurses from Harbin should hang too, along with any remaining (alive) members of unit 731 who engaged in the atrocities.
yeah i'm toned the music down for my newer reviews, i was still getting used to it, thanks thou :). yeah that's so high i could never pay that... well afford that is more like it lol
thank god i have got the boxset already,, there is men behind the sun boxset on ebay just now,, starting bid £150 or buy it now £300,, mind you there is only 1500 boxsets availabe worldwide
thank you for reviewing this i wish they would teach this stuff in school, sure they talk about the holocaust but this is the real horror story right here!
i think its a great, powerful, and disturbing film, with a good message although it is told through a series of horrible cruelty to man and animal (the animal being real of course)
@mrparka - Yeah, I can handle the rest of it, even the stuff with cadavers. They're already dead. The crap rocketing out the guy's butt I could handle - it was actually funny cause he looks like someone I knew IRL.
The mother/child gassing and the baby crushing also get me - offset by the "injury comedy" of the mother. But the fact they probably killed a real cat for a movie kind of pisses me off at the director. Then again, he could just be saying it to create publicity- you never know.
the scenes are very sick stuff to me, i love the movie thou, there are alot of great scenes that aren't riddled with violence as well in this movie. that cat sure looked dead to me after that pile of rats swarmed it. yeah never know about alot of these movies.
The cat wasn't killed, they coated it in dyed honey and the rats licked it off, he never mentioned it because he thought it was hypocritical that people would make such a big deal over a cat even though there were much bigger atrocities taking place.
@MistaGrieves you know, it's really weird, but it's the cat thing that bothered me the most (maybe because i thought it WAS a real cat, whereas everything else is just special effects). it's not hypocritical at all to get upset over a real cat being killed in a grusome way vs. faked "bigger atrocities". anyway, the whole "coated it in dyed honey" thing sounds very suspicious. he's a sick twisted f#$K if he did that to a real cat
what humans are u speaking of? the people dying int he movie or humans in general , i though u were making a statement about how disgusting humans can be due to what atrocities they do in this film, and i was making a joking comment how "gonna love them" it was a joke.
in the movie for experiments to discover things about the human body works, they actually used there finds later on, in the end of the first 1 they say that United States or another country got some of the data.
By the way, I think I rememeber in one of your videos you mentioned Night of the Creeps, have you seen the new cover art for the DVD and Bluray? pretty disapointing if you ask me.
i can't think of any i mean flower of flesh and blood has torture in it, but thats all it is, it doesn't have a true story to back it up or experiments.
Thanks, I'll give them both a try, your videos are awesome man, keep it up! speaking of Unit 731 and Japanese war crimes, have you seen "Philosophy of a Knife"? its a odd Russian movie about Unit 731, I've heard mixed reviews about it so I dont know if its worth checking out or not, but just thought I'd ask.
thanks. yeah Philosophy of a knife is a very crazy film. its about 4 and a half hours long i watched that mother in one sitting during the winter, the director's style is very drawn out but its worth watching. Some real great interviews with someone that was alive during the time, its very interesting they are in between scenes.
Do you think Hostel is a laughable torture movie compared to this movie? Hostel didn't use a dead body for reals for an autopsy or a cat actually getting killed.
Dr Josef Mengele would make himself at home at unit 731. One has to wonder which men were worst Shiro Isshi or Josef Mengele. Pardon any mispelled words.
My vote always goes to Shiro Ishii, he did things that the Nazis wouldn't of even dreamed of.
-And the thing that grills you the most is that he (and the many others who got away with it) established the Japanese Blue Cross medical firms, and he was eventually a professor at the University of Maryland in the United States.
i knew he got away with it the us got alot of those documents according the the film, i mean to be honest to burn all the documents after that was sick, there was alot of information in there even if it was collected by means of evil. wow just imagine him teaching a class.
its cool i wouldn't have known either if i never seen them, yeah i donno if japan would make a movie like this considering its based on a true events and it has Japanese torturing Chinese and Russian people.
the Japanese i don't think would ever make a movie that is based on a true story showing them torture, it would be the same as German film makers made a movie about a new found holocaust experiment no one really knew. not that unit 731 was unheard of until now, but alot of people don't know about it. its kinda of an easy mistake to make thou. :)
I've never seen the "sequels" so thanks for the review. I probably won't either.
Just a note in the first one the cat wasn't eaten alive by rats, it was a real cat but they just covered it in dyed honey and the rats basically licked the honey off of it, they didn't eat it. The director shied away from that topic because he thought it was so hypocritical since the film was about the desecration of humanity by humans not animal abuse.
Would be hypocritical of him too if they killed the cat.
the first 1 and 4 one are really worth watching the 4th is by the same director same mean spirited stuff realistic, unearthed released a good clean looking copy under the title black sun: Nanking Massacre. oh they fooled me i really thought the cat was killed, it looked so insane during that scene i had never seen anything like it.
@mrparka are you sure it wasn't? is there a behind the scenes thing or something? it would be great if they showed the cat later happy and walking around. don't know why the damn cat thing bothers me so much, i dont even like cats
oh i completely agree every country has done evil things during war, i believe that china at one point reined over japan, i don't blame single countries for anything. This is also a Chinese directed series so although i'm sure some of it happen it probably is one sided although i compare this to what the nazi's did i don't really think anyone country is any better considering the united states is found on Native American blood.
thats pretty sick, that they kill people that stupid of a reason, the world would be better off without people who kill things they don't understand because they are to dense to think.

The mother/child gassing and the baby crushing also get me - offset by the "injury comedy" of the mother. But the fact they probably killed a real cat for a movie kind of pisses me off at the director. Then again, he could just be saying it to create publicity- you never know.
NutNapalm 2 years ago
the scenes are very sick stuff to me, i love the movie thou, there are alot of great scenes that aren't riddled with violence as well in this movie. that cat sure looked dead to me after that pile of rats swarmed it. yeah never know about alot of these movies.
mrparka 2 years ago
The cat wasn't killed, they coated it in dyed honey and the rats licked it off, he never mentioned it because he thought it was hypocritical that people would make such a big deal over a cat even though there were much bigger atrocities taking place.
MistaGrieves 2 years ago
@MistaGrieves you know, it's really weird, but it's the cat thing that bothered me the most (maybe because i thought it WAS a real cat, whereas everything else is just special effects). it's not hypocritical at all to get upset over a real cat being killed in a grusome way vs. faked "bigger atrocities". anyway, the whole "coated it in dyed honey" thing sounds very suspicious. he's a sick twisted f#$K if he did that to a real cat
isaachaze1 2 years ago
yeah its just insane, the scene looks very real to me, but then again the movie could have set the tone.
mrparka 2 years ago
it's stopped me from watching this movie though i've seen a bunch of clips from it. your review was very good btw
isaachaze1 2 years ago
yeah after the cat there isn't anymore animal torture, the movie is insane thou. thanks alot, i would try to get through it if i was you :)
mrparka 2 years ago
curiosity will probably get the best of me, and i'll probably watch it. trying to get through salo at the moment.
isaachaze1 2 years ago

yomanmeme 2 years ago
gonna love them right... lol
mrparka 2 years ago
is not funny they r so poor
yomanmeme 2 years ago
what humans are u speaking of? the people dying int he movie or humans in general , i though u were making a statement about how disgusting humans can be due to what atrocities they do in this film, and i was making a joking comment how "gonna love them" it was a joke.
mrparka 2 years ago
this is shit omg so disgustin
yomanmeme 2 years ago
it is disgusting, but its true.
mrparka 2 years ago
yes hai。。。 don noe y they do it ==
yomanmeme 2 years ago
in the movie for experiments to discover things about the human body works, they actually used there finds later on, in the end of the first 1 they say that United States or another country got some of the data.
mrparka 2 years ago
。。。they shouldnt use living people those basta。。。
yomanmeme 2 years ago
yeah they really shouldn't but it was similar to nazi Germany where they tortured jews.
mrparka 2 years ago
Comment removed
yomanmeme 2 years ago
yeah, not sure how much hands on he had in the Jews experiments, but i'm sure he gave alot of the orders. or at least allowed it to happen.
mrparka 2 years ago

You should check out Aftermath if you havent, brutal nasty movie, i wouldnt consider it a good movie but its different.
nlk667 2 years ago
yeah i have that one, pretty crazy movie, very well made.
mrparka 2 years ago
aftermath is brilliant,, highly recommended
SnuffHunter1 2 years ago
its good stuff
mrparka 2 years ago
I cant understand why they wouldnt want to use the original poster art for the dvd and bluray, I imagine alot of fans are mad.
nlk667 2 years ago
yeah i agree pretty silly on there part.
mrparka 2 years ago
yeah Flower of Flesh and Blood is pretty good, great special effects, bad storyline, bad acting but meh, what are ya gonna do.
nlk667 2 years ago
yeah exactly lol
mrparka 2 years ago
By the way, I think I rememeber in one of your videos you mentioned Night of the Creeps, have you seen the new cover art for the DVD and Bluray? pretty disapointing if you ask me.
nlk667 2 years ago
yeah its not that impressive nasty yellow color
mrparka 2 years ago
Alright, I'll defently check it out, is there any movies like MBTS that you would suggest checking out?
nlk667 2 years ago
i can't think of any i mean flower of flesh and blood has torture in it, but thats all it is, it doesn't have a true story to back it up or experiments.
mrparka 2 years ago
Thanks, I'll give them both a try, your videos are awesome man, keep it up! speaking of Unit 731 and Japanese war crimes, have you seen "Philosophy of a Knife"? its a odd Russian movie about Unit 731, I've heard mixed reviews about it so I dont know if its worth checking out or not, but just thought I'd ask.
nlk667 2 years ago
thanks. yeah Philosophy of a knife is a very crazy film. its about 4 and a half hours long i watched that mother in one sitting during the winter, the director's style is very drawn out but its worth watching. Some real great interviews with someone that was alive during the time, its very interesting they are in between scenes.
mrparka 2 years ago
where would you suggest getting this boxset? I just ordered the first MBTS but the others are very high.
nlk667 2 years ago
ebay or uk ebay or just search web engines alot of the sites are out of them now.
mrparka 2 years ago
Do you think Hostel is a laughable torture movie compared to this movie? Hostel didn't use a dead body for reals for an autopsy or a cat actually getting killed.
Johnlindsey289 2 years ago
yeah but they aren't in the same league, to me hostel is maybe a cringe worthy scene or two but not really disturbing.
mrparka 2 years ago
But do you think Men Behind The Sun is torture porn?
Johnlindsey289 2 years ago
no way, it has a true story and a very realistic approach, the stuff that happens in war is god awful, the real corpse was a bit much.
mrparka 2 years ago
dvd's are more important to me as of now then a camera.
mrparka 2 years ago
Dr Josef Mengele would make himself at home at unit 731. One has to wonder which men were worst Shiro Isshi or Josef Mengele. Pardon any mispelled words.
RMSTitanic87 2 years ago
yeah i agree, we will never know the full truth.
mrparka 2 years ago
My vote always goes to Shiro Ishii, he did things that the Nazis wouldn't of even dreamed of.
-And the thing that grills you the most is that he (and the many others who got away with it) established the Japanese Blue Cross medical firms, and he was eventually a professor at the University of Maryland in the United States.
gillianseed 2 years ago
i knew he got away with it the us got alot of those documents according the the film, i mean to be honest to burn all the documents after that was sick, there was alot of information in there even if it was collected by means of evil. wow just imagine him teaching a class.
mrparka 2 years ago
Why do the Japanese make the most disturbing shit ever?
crazycandy999999999 2 years ago
these movies are actually Chinese.
mrparka 2 years ago
Oh, I feel stupid and racist now lol
crazycandy999999999 2 years ago
its cool i wouldn't have known either if i never seen them, yeah i donno if japan would make a movie like this considering its based on a true events and it has Japanese torturing Chinese and Russian people.
mrparka 2 years ago
the Japanese i don't think would ever make a movie that is based on a true story showing them torture, it would be the same as German film makers made a movie about a new found holocaust experiment no one really knew. not that unit 731 was unheard of until now, but alot of people don't know about it. its kinda of an easy mistake to make thou. :)
mrparka 2 years ago
Because they're Japanese. Why else?
eviltreemonster 2 years ago
lol but they didn't china did.
mrparka 2 years ago
I've never seen the "sequels" so thanks for the review. I probably won't either.
Just a note in the first one the cat wasn't eaten alive by rats, it was a real cat but they just covered it in dyed honey and the rats basically licked the honey off of it, they didn't eat it. The director shied away from that topic because he thought it was so hypocritical since the film was about the desecration of humanity by humans not animal abuse.
Would be hypocritical of him too if they killed the cat.
OlderG0ds 2 years ago
the first 1 and 4 one are really worth watching the 4th is by the same director same mean spirited stuff realistic, unearthed released a good clean looking copy under the title black sun: Nanking Massacre. oh they fooled me i really thought the cat was killed, it looked so insane during that scene i had never seen anything like it.
mrparka 2 years ago
@mrparka are you sure it wasn't? is there a behind the scenes thing or something? it would be great if they showed the cat later happy and walking around. don't know why the damn cat thing bothers me so much, i dont even like cats
isaachaze1 2 years ago
not that i know of not any behind the scenes on the dvd, not much info i know about the making of the movie.,
mrparka 2 years ago
These things actually happened during the rule of Japan.
eviltreemonster 2 years ago
yeah they are based on true incidents
mrparka 2 years ago
But not all Japanese are bad people. Despite what you hear from China.
eviltreemonster 2 years ago
oh i completely agree every country has done evil things during war, i believe that china at one point reined over japan, i don't blame single countries for anything. This is also a Chinese directed series so although i'm sure some of it happen it probably is one sided although i compare this to what the nazi's did i don't really think anyone country is any better considering the united states is found on Native American blood.
mrparka 2 years ago
In Jamaica, gays and lesbians are to be killed. I know coz I'm Jamaican and lesbian. I live in LA with my foster family.
eviltreemonster 2 years ago
thats pretty sick, that they kill people that stupid of a reason, the world would be better off without people who kill things they don't understand because they are to dense to think.
