Neil Hefti actually wrote this piece to be played at a speed comparable to this, but Count Basie read the arrangement and decided it would sound better at the slower pace. Lalo Schifrin is playing this a original tempo.
Or could it be that Count Basie's version is a tad too slow? After all, it's a treatment of a classic in a film called Rush Hour. I think we all want to speed up real rush hour.
Have never seen this film. Now that I know Hefti has a presence, want to see it.

Well, this was written for the Count Basie orchestra, but I do think that's also a good point.
