This book brings about a lot of interesting facts that most people don't know about. Well worth the read.

It reveals much of the cause for our current subjugation to Oil interests, including those in the white house.

I think its becoming more and more clear that Edwin Black is a writer of "historical fiction" ... stories that pick and choose facts and characters from history, and distorts others in order to create emotionally charged literature based on current world events in order to sell more books. Everyone should be aware of this, and not accept the writing as fact, only the interpretations of a nonspecialist lawyer, who himself is intent on making money.

I think this book is already showing it is BS.

If Edison was so concerned about helping the world, as claimed by Black, how does he explain his opposition to Edison's protege, Nicola Tesla and his invention of AC technology?

Its common knowledge Edison wanted the world to use DC, and used tactics to prevent AC from ever being used. Yet here is Edison trying to do good for mankind with electric cars?

Perhaps Edison wanted to prevent AC from being used because he knew that it was dangerous and also being positioned as a way to centralize electricity generation to bypass the neighborhood models Edison envisioned. You are correct that this is common knowledge, but Edison wanting the world to use DC over AC may not easily be explained by an oversimplification of his reasons.

As I recall, Edison used to electrocute chickens and other animals to show the dangers of big, bad, AC.

Its really very simple. Edison invested in DC, and wanted it to be the standard. But it would have become apparent eventually that high voltage AC is the only practical way to send electric power over any significant distance without losses.

Edison was a great man, but also an obstructionist much like Microsoft is today.

Is this book reliable? Edwin Black is a lawyer, and a Jewish one at that. There is lots of criticism of his other book IBM and the Holocaust. Quite a few people dismissed it early on.

So be sure that you're not being lulled and manipulated by subtle distortions and lies of omission.

I WANT to believe that there is an Oil conspiracy, but as I say, Edwin Black is NOT an engineer at all, and is in no position to comment on the feasibility of alternatives.

If we were talking about his other book IBM and the Holocaust, you would not be asking such a stupid question, cause the answer would be obvious.

If you check my commentary on his stupid video with the really cheesy music, and his redefinition of the "information age" you'll see what a trickster bitch this Edwin Black is.

He is blaming IBM for providing the IT for the holocaust, in a time when anti-Semitism is as common as Islamophobia is right now.

Simply that given the precedent of his previous book, a Jewish lawyer talking about IBM technology being used in the holocaust, and many people dismissing it as just so much crap, how can this same person be trusted with a more technical subject matter as a co-ordinated conspiracy by big business to subvert alternative technologies for over a century.

I work at a campus and even the stupidest engineering students know that electric cars are just now becoming viable. To suggest that electric cars back then could have held their own against gasoline vehicles of the day is pure lawyer-type B U L L S H I T.

He is a master at collecting a bunch of events and putting them together into what appears to be a conspiracy, but they are not connected events.

The point I am trying to make is that Edwin Black is not an engineer. He is a lawyer, and to make facts fit whatever perception they want to manufacture, he would rather stretch a rubber ruler than to learn engineering knowledge.

You'd have to be pretty gullible to believe the hype around this book of his regarding Industrial conspiracies. Fast talking con job.

If he was ever proven right, it would be grounds for a popular revolt against all the major industrial powers of our time.

By justifying a crime like 'providing IT to the Nazis against the Jews'- "in a time when antisemitism was as common as Islamophobia is now" is mind boggling.

By that logic, Companies that now provide monitoring or even killing of Muslims are off the hook as it is "in vogue".

When it is popular to cage "your kind", I'll use the same logic to look the other way, too.

I'm currently reading it; it's great. It's very detailed. Most interesting thing I learned was that electric cars have been around as long as gas cars: 1800s. Edison and Ford originally wanted to go electric but corrupted businessmen stopped that.
