  • I was once a Shawshank "disciple" Now this has replaced it. This is a life changing film. The second "perfect" film I've ever watched. This moment had me in awe.

  • Touching T3T

  • Beautiful. I wish this had subtitles, but I remember the gist of it well enough.

I think that's a pretty good mark of a great film, don't you? When you can watch it without subtitles and still feel how beautiful and profound it is.

  • I thought I knew what was important in the life. But maybe I was wrong. I realized then that I knew nothing. This story certainly changed some part of my mind.

  • the most unforgettable film i have ever watched. Life changing. perhaps the greatest offering that a film can give us is letting us experience life unfolding in our eyes. T.T i cried hard, really hard in this film. it's as if it opened my heart!

  • One of the most gorgeous scenes in the entire movie. I cry every time I watch it. "YI YI" was breathlessly perfect!

  • 到这里我真的哭了

  • well, if you watch yi yi from a different perspective. the story structure was amazing! it actually talk about the whole stages (child, teen age, middle age, and elders) of human lives and how they look towards the world, society, relationship between each stages, and also love when stage develops. and the best part is Master Yang did it in one movie! i don't think hollywood can EVER come up with this type of story structure since hollywood producers don't like things too complicated.

  • and the cinema was really good too. it was all about reflection! and i really love the reflection montage in between NJ's reunion with his first love, and cuts to NJ's daughter's first love. it was soooo nicely done i almost cried because it was soooo "peacefully beautiful!"(i don't really know how to explain that feeling XD.) ......

  • ......and at the end, when the child give speech (which is this clip that's showing above,) seriously, i watched it 3 times and everytime i watched to this part, tears almost come out! the youngest person, speaks the most truthful stuff that we are all afraid of or never thought of to say! i felt like i lived a full life after watching this. truly a masterpiece!

  • Agreed. Every time I see this movie I cry at the end. It's so damn beautiful and the portrayal of humanism is so deep and alluring. Edward Yang was a true blessing to us when he was on Earth. "YI YI" was gorgeous and the final scene is one of the most dramatic, and chilling ends of his movies.

  • RegardeLaMer :), just don't cry at the end, because, maybe,... there is no end as life is a cycle.

  • 真是感傷

    巨星的殞落~

    楊德昌大導在07/01/07辭世於美國,享年60歲~

  • Is this from YI YI the movie?

  • shouldn't watch this spoiler XDDD

  • @@ you mean yi yi?! i don't think shadow is greater then yiyi to be honest, well~ there're ppl who likes yi yi and pp who don't like it. i consider yi yi as at lease one of the top 3 best chinese drama feature film.

  • You fucking piece of trash- it's not the top three best Chinese dramas. It's the best film ever made, you fucking douchebag! Everyone that hated "YI YI" didn't deserve to watch it, and should therefore die.

  • wOw~ such rage......i thought Ed Yang fans should have been much more mature o.O. besides, to me bright summer days is as good as yi yi.

  • It just eats me up inside when someone like you is actually alive and trash talking the dead. Edward Yang didn't make "one of the best top three Chinese dramas" as you said with rather humilating English. He made THE best film! UGH! I hate pretentious fuckers like you! And yes, this is rage. I will defend "YI YI" until I'm blue in the face!

  • hahahaha~ you should at lease run through some Edward Yang's be4 your trash talk and call yourself a Edward Yang's defender~ i say bright summer days is as good as yi yi............ and "bright summer days" is Ed Yang's film too. older chinese audience tend to like bright summer days better because of the taiwanese social background, and the western audience like yi yi better~ and DO notice that i didn't say yi yi is #2 or #3, i say yi yi is AT LEASE ONE of the top 3.

  • it is up to ppl's personal taste, i do like yi yi very very much or otherwise i wouldn't be here. but i won't force ppl with dirty languages to put it on as number 1. some ppl love it and some ppl don't.....like Mr. EloLita07 here who made some comments.

  • you are welcome to trade thoughts with me since i watched yi yi 3~4 times already..... and to be honest, I study Yang's film and i also like 獨立時代 alot too.

  • No, I know it's one of his movies... I am waiting for it to get a release on DVD in America, too. I am also waiting for his other film "Terrorizors" to make it here, also. Sorry, if I offended you. I just get passionate.

  • WoW~ it's ganna be hard to find that dvd in NA, i went back to tw and looked for the tw realease and i couldn't find it. my friends over in Beijing said that they had it over there be4 when they were releasing the Ed Yang's collection. not anymore tho. if you live in the west coast, one of the LA museums is showing Edward Yang's film. you might be able to catch it on the big screen if you live around there.

  • 這段實在好感人~我還記得我第一次看到這結局時,我感動的都快哭出來,實在是一部經典電影。這部電影不但故事感人,我還在這裡學到好多人生觀!楊導我支持你!
