Wyclef was a major force in Miami when Haitians were ashamed to represent their nationality. I remember being in Miami and people used to lie about being Haitian and when Wyclef came out and represented hard and made it cool to be Haitian then everybody represented. Wyclef deserves a lot of credit for that.
From the blan perspective, people of Haitian descent need to STAND UP and BE PROUD and SUPPORT the talented and passionate people and culture of Haiti. I'm not Haitian but I have lived in Haiti. It is magnificent and unique in all the world. The poverty has killed the confidence of the people. Just when things finally looked a bit better the quake... I see you Haiti. I love you. You are special and your people deserve the same opportunities that free people have all over the world. Remnen...
I'm from South Carolina. In 1997 I was a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Haiti, where I was introduced to the music of the Fugees. I was blessed to experience firsthand the impact of this music on the beleagured people of Haiti. I'll never forget the first time I heard Yele, on a camion, in the mountains between PauP and Jacmel. Everyone was singing their hearts out. It was beautiful.
I Embrace my culture way before Wyclef came on the scene! I remember this kid back in High School was clearly Haitian and he was like he's canadian so everytime we saw we use to scream "guet coco manman' ou massissi" in his face and he still use to act like he did'nt understand LOL!!
@dwadefan4lyfe2 that's right. Wyclef is helping my people stand up. Giving us someone to brag about, and to be proud of. Shout to Jozy Altidore too. And any other Haitian doing big things out there.
@trock3155 OMG you're right!! I would've NEVER picked up on that on my own! I love The Heathen by Bob Marley and I couldn't figure out why Jaspora hit me instantly wow so obvious now!
part 6: Men Flatbush do not respect Diaspora Men Canada do not respect Diaspora Men Miami do not respect Diaspora Pa Kayos do not respect diaspora Papa Djoume do not respect Diaspora Refugees do not respect Diaspora Men Florida do not respect Diaspora Wrong things done are going to finish worse If you disrespect native-born Done wrong things are going to finish worse Disrespect Haitians you will get hit... Jaspora has to respect Jaspora Jaspora has to respect Jaspora
Thanks, this is one of my favorite songs by Wyclef even though I didn't understand what he was saying. Now I know what he is saying/talking about I love it even more. Thanks for the translation.
Part 3: Diaspora do not respect Diaspora If you are a Diaspora tonight we're going to disarm you Diaspora ha ha o, put your hands up! I am going to take them and throw them in prison I will make them know who is Toussaint I will make them know who is Dessalines After, we will let them go and send them back to Brooklyn So he could go to his mother who is cooking in the kitchen His mom looked at him and said "Man, you've changed"
Part 2: Why? Every night you are sleeping with Jezebel! You're scared to say Haitian girls are beautiful! Beautiful girls are beautiful... I respect your name just like I respect the angel Gabriel Here, Diaspora men want to take you to hotels, Start talking English, turning to playboy channel They do not respect Israel. Diaspora do not respect Diaspora If you are a Diaspora I am going to give you to sharks
translation: This is what the world was waiting for Wyclef who came from the Fugees Jeremie, Haiti, Port-au-Prince, Flatbush... Jaspora doesn't respect Jaspora Ever since I was little, I left Haiti There's some that went to Brooklyn there's some that went to Miami Why do Jamaicans always say they are Jamaicans, But Haitians are afraid to say they are Haitians? Why? Are you scared to say your name is Samuel? Why? Are you scared to say you're with Israel?
Wyclef really is a pillar in making Haitian Americans like me, embrace their culture even when peers of other cultures would try to discourage us from reppin' who we are!
i have and always will rep haiti regardless of what others think cuz haiti needs support and naturally it is a big part of who i am, so why not embrace it
Big ups to all My Haitians-esp those who arent afraid to Represent!
@UCFCelebrity I am a born American from English decent, but I've always had an interest in Haiti since I was a kid and learned in school about Toussaint L'overture (sp ?) and its amazing history. I dont know Creole but songs like sang fezi, and jaspora you can even tell there is alot of feeling behind his words. Having looked up the translation there is no doubt. Amazing people in Haiti and amazing feeling from Wyclef.

She said I changed because I am Haitian
They taught me a lesson, they put me in prison.
I see Diaspora women and Diaspora men
There are people who are not going to make it because
they will sleep with the fishes
They lost their knowledge just like a priest without
religion
