I've always thought the idea of having so many different actresses to play the same character was more of a way to imply that this could happen to anybody. That you can't look at a person and know their life, but you have to get to the know the person. The whole movie deals with appearances being secondary to actual knowledge.

That's my take anyway.

@Metropolis2112 He's actually said on a few occasions he feels the film is open for interpretation and that's why Aviva responds to Mark the way she does. Solondz' kinds of lets you make up your own mind on what you think the message is -- does Aviva change? It's up to us to question and to decide for ourselves -- I think the bigger question is less about if we can/do change and more about why some of us have so much trouble accepting ourselves for who we are. Such a fantastic film.

I guess that is where Eytan Mirsky got the inspiration for these songs. He went to a religious school and he is Jewish. I don't believe he is into religion though. I'm guessing he got burnt out on religion after going to a catholic school all through his youth years.

Eytan Mirsky is one cool guy though. Very intelligent and a great songwriter and musician. It would have been cool if he had made it as a screenwriter, because I know he could have made some cool movies come to life.

Yeah, this was a good Todd Solondz film. Todd Solondz raises the bar on his film rating with every new film that he creates. The next one is always more shocking than the last one. Eytan Mirsky did a great job at composing the songs for this film. Solondz and Mirsky both are lucky to have each other as friends because Solondz's films wouldn't be as good without Eytan and Solondz's films has helped Eytan with his music career.

I actually don't see Solondz' work as exploitation. People really do that and some people find enjoyment in it. It might make you uncomfortable, but it's part of life. And I think that's all that he and in some cases Larry Clark is doing with their work. Not necessarily trying to 'shock' anyone.
