it carries your saved games over from mass effect and into the second game they did the same thing for knights of the old republic and kotor 2

They didn't do the same for the kotor series, they didn't have a way to. They let you choose what happened as the story progressed, for example:

In kotor 2, the first ally you meet, Athen I think, says that Revan was a girl, you could choose to say whether or not that he was a guy or not, it depends on who you played as then.

Mass Effect 2 will be the first game I know of to actually take any data from past games to determine how you play through the sequel.

No they didn't. Bastila died when I played KOTOR and survived in KOTOR 2. KOTOR 2 didn't take a save. Mass Effect 2 literally take s the game and imports it.

The real question is: Will it be longer/more game play than in ME1. I did All the side missions and still it took me only a couple of hours of game time to complete it. Felt like I just got into the story when the game was over :( Total rip off IMHO <-- And this is coming from a BioWare fanboy :D

Bioware may be still planning to make Jade Empire 2. Think about, right now they are working on "Dragon Age", Mass Effect 2, and Star Wars: TOR.

Last time I checked, Bioware only worked on one game ever 2 or 3 years before signing on with EA.

I think it that whether or not Shepard is dead or alive will depend on what you did in the first game, or maybe it will even be random when you load your first game and start Mass Effect 2. I always like games what have many different parts to it, where what you do decides the rest of the story, or the outcome may even be randomly selected. :) can't wait for E3 :))))))))

if you watch this video, the end shows that shepard isn't dead. The official release even says it that he goes on a "suicide run with the remainder of his crew straight into the heart of enemy territory". This is rumoured to be earth!!!

The ending of ME1 implies that "enemy territory" would be Dark Space (beyond the edge of the galaxy), in which the Reapers are residing. Given the destructive potential of the Reapers, any venture into Dark Space would indeed be a suicide run. As the our little corner of the galaxy is far from the edge, I'd be comfortable saying that Earth is nowhere near enemy territory.
