  • I am from India. I live very close to the China Town in San Francisco. I speak 5 languages. This video is just amazing. For the first time I feel like it is possible to learn Chinese. And that is because all the Chinese people I have asked till today have told me that it is "SO DIFFICULT".

  • I just learned something new. Xie Xie

  • Thank you very much for the video, I have been wanting to wish someone special happy new year and happy birthday :)

  • Thank you very much, had to redo the video a few times before i could get the sound right

  • 作为一个中国人都不得不佩服你的汉语水平

    你的普通话是那么准确那么动听

    太棒了!!!!!!!

  • Thansk a lot! Now I can wish my friend a happy new year in chinese ^^

It's hard to note the chinese characters down by looking at your sheet (you wrote very clearly :) but the quality of the video isn't so good as you know :/ ) It's great that you wrote the numbers for the tones :)

Maybe copying your characters and stuff directly into the video with windowsmoviemaker makes it mor comfortable for you:) You got your hand's free then ;) Dunno what you prefer :)

    Great job, please keep on!

  • I just stumbled upon this after ordering a language book from Amazon. This is the first comment I have ever written on You Tube as most of the comments descend into pathetic comments and slagging people off.

It's a pleasure to find someone using technology and their own time to share their language and culture with the world. I agree with another poster - If you podcasted this I'd be up for downloading it. Thanks for this it's awesome.

    Xie Xie

  • Ive been learning chinese for 7 years now and I still count write those characters off by heart. But Im good at reading and talking and listening

  • That's awsome! Writing is definitely much much harder since the structure of the character is so different. Cheers!

  • Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • do you think dogs and cats are tasty?

  • You know what, we are very largely a product of our upbringing. I adore dogs and cats as pets - I've lived with both and loved them eaqually (not a particular dog or cat person). As far as I know breeding dogs for food is still a practice in China (there are "dog farms" just like they have "rabbit farms" here - I suppose rabbit lovers would be horrified by the notion). Again, as far as I know cats are rarely consumed in most of China.

  • You should make these in to a PodCast that people can subscribe to via Itunes and watch this on their iPods. Very good teaching videos. Thank you so very much for them!

  • I know, I know, I can't believe I'm so technically deprepit either. New Year's resolution = modernize! ;-p

  • Thanks for taking your time to make these videos for us.

  • Psh...樂 <-----

  • Your video is very useful. Thank you very much for taking the time to make it. I was hoping to wish a Chinese friend Merry Christmas and found this. Kudos!

  • Love your videos. I will be in Shangai in June, I will practice. You are what the internet should be.... interchanging of knowledge.

  • Thanks very much and I hope you continue to produce these lessons. The characters with the pinyin are a great help. Many thanks for your efforts. Very nice.

  • 祝你节日快乐!

  • simplified characters suck :P

  • 祝你節日快樂!

    Is that better?

Simplified characters are generally used in mainland China; traditional characters are generally used in Taiwan.

Since carpediem4utube used simplified characters in her video, I did the same on this message board. :\

  • Hi all, does this format (text + pinyin) work for you? Any suggestions?

PS. sorry about the grainy video - I have to edit the file in Movie maker and somehow I downgraded the resolution, yeek!

  • Yay. thank you for this. I dont have many sources for learning chinese, so I appreciate this alot.

  • Thank you for watching! ;-)

  • glad to watch anytime. and your new format is very good.

  • Thank you. This is very helpful. People always wonder how I learn so much Chinese. Keep it up.

Next topic could be weather related. Like raining, snowing, cold, hot, cloudy... Just a thought. Also, seasons maybe. I can't remember if you covered that in a previous lesson.

    Hope all is well. Bye.

  • Good idea! Will do.

  • Very useful in this time of year, thanks. :-)

You still look infinitely cute by the way. Don't let us wait so long for the next series please! ;)
