Are all RAW files really flat looking all the time? I shoot raw but I haven't mastered exposure so I get a variety of over & under exposed images all the time.
Is this supposed to be comedy or an actual "tips" video? It's like the blind leading the blind. You seem like a nice guy, but maybe learn editing first before you try to teach it, no? People should really learn to develop a production workflow and just not play around. Anyway I stopped at 5 minutes. For excellent videos on editing and workflow go to Adobe.com
Umm - you do realise that when your guest was discussing the Histogram, he was talking about using it at initial capture, to get the most information for later processing ? You seem to be primarily discussing ignoring Histogram usage at the processing stage (unless your point is that your D3s has an amazingly accurate built in screen compared to the D3000) ?
Why do you always make black&white with decreasing saturation and vibrance to 0, instead of using the back&white button on the right (under "basic") ? Im just wondering what lightroom makes different with pressing "lack&white".
Question about the histogram as you mention it in this video.
What about print? I usually go for a visual effect because I know I will not print it and can have over/under exposed areas. But when you print, doesn't those area matters because they will leave uneven ink levels? I have a few photos I want to print in large A3/A3+ (11.7 x 16.5 inches / 13 x 19 inches); can you tell us a bit more about screen (what you see and how you feel the photo while developing) versus print results?
@JaredPolin so your using i movie in this video? i know its a hard question but do you know any equivalents to this program for windows? Digital Photo Proffesional came with my camera but it doesnt have as many options as this. Love your videos man :)
@rainyday9168 if you want some serious editing software you should either get sony vegas pro 10 or 9 (this is only on pc though) and or adobe after effects cs4 or cs5
Thank you for all the great videos they have helped me a lot! I am somewhat new to photography but am ready to upgrade. I have a Canon rebel xti but don't have to much money invested in Canon glass. Would you recommend getting another Canon or switching to Nikon and why? Thanks.
hey jared! im so happy that you got a pic from someone that is using the d700 because you never answered my question before about the d700. can you please tell me really quick what you think about it?
7D for video, D7000 for stills. The D7000 will knock the 7D out of the water for High ISO shooting and autofocus performance. Heck, even the D90 will beat the 7D on sensor noise, and the D7000 is way better than the D90.
Big picture question, what is the difference between Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom (besides price) and when would you use one over the other (or both for that matter).? I am trying to understand post processing workflows and I have not found anything on Youtube when to use them separately or when to use them together and in what order for post processing.
Love the videos. Just one question. When you boost the exposure how's come neither of you ever use the "Recovery" slider to bring back some of those blown out hi-lights caused by the increase in exposure? Just wondering. Thanks
its not my question, its my friends. "is the Canon d7 worth a purchase? Or can I find a Nikon that is approximately the same price with the equivalent specs?" i would suggest nikon d7000 with better glass. does that sound reasonable?
Personally abit more contrast on gregs and it would be perfect to me.
oh and hey jared! i was watching a music video (Far East Movement - Rocketeer ft. Ryan Tedder) and at the end there was snippets of a photographer with a fro, just wondering if that was you?
i like that jared concentrates on the end product from start to finish with no propensity towards certain tools (except for the high contrast of course....). on the other hand, i think greg's approach takes advantage of the tools during shooting that maximizes the potential of post production tools, which IMHO gives you a more systematic approach and perhaps engender consistency. for today's edit, i liked greg's better....ironically, it was more punchier throughout its dynamic range...hi lil!
Jared, tip for you. There is a function that let you switch between now and before, so just hit the '/' key and you will "boom", go from before and after without having to go to the history, use it a lot myself. (Menu, View, Before / After, Before only)
I'm a bit surprised you both let the fur on top of kitty blow out. I totally expected Greg to go for recovery, and Jared to either add less exposure or go for recovery as a last resort. That's just me though.
im with jared on the kitty on the table! nice image but thats exactly why i dont have cats!! he was just outside burring his poop, now he sleeping where i eat.
It auto Corrects through the pictures exif data, The lens auto correction is a great tool. I shoot with a Nikon D700, Nikon 24-70 f/2.8, Nikon 50mm f/1.4G and a Nikon 105 f/2 DC, the 24-70 f/2.8 has a full stop of vignetting in the corners and a little bit of centre distortion, the 50 has almost none and the 105 has a half stop in the corners. The tool is a lot in my editing now because of how much light is in the photos now thanks to the auto correct. It's always fun to play with all the tools
word. i just cut my fro.
i miss it. i should grow it again.
