The tempo and musicianship alone makes this a standout. I was amazed with this one. Especially when they went to the rag style. I doubt many of todays studio musicians could match this- The bass player was absolutely on the money. When you realize he wasn't playing electric bass but on an old-fashioned tuba--- JUST GREAT
Fantastic version! I got to see a big stage version of Good News, very faithful to the 1927 original. Varsity Drag was the standout! I have the Hagan and Olsen versions. Wasn't Olsen the pit band in the 1927 musical? I think he was. Wow, your Sam Lanin blows the doors right off the Victrola! HOT! I love it! Thank you 4 the 20s fun!
As wonderfully sassy and lovable as ever but the quality of this recording is extraordinary. It's so darn clean and clear, it's hard to believe it's from an original 78RPM recording or at least one that was ever played before. What's the secret?
@Nealsiegal I recorded this one from an LP of Sam Lanin i have. I don't know how they used to enhance the 78s for LP transfer but LPs always seem to have sounded better than CDs. Alot of the dance band LP transfers seem to have been done in the 1970s before they had digital equipment, just shows that maybe digital isn't always so great.
This has always been one of My favorit records!!! This version is just asAWESOME as it gets! Thank You for sharing this with Me, You sir are the Cats Meow.
does anyone know the original label/recording company for this one?

I have the 78 and it's one of the best recordings from this period. This LP verson has not been tampered with very much.
