  • so beautiful, she was the first female pop singer.sad she died at 34,,and john lennon had a crush on her,and let her sing a few of the beatles songs, for the older generation

  • God I remember this and I remember her being the very tops, the girl with a giggle in her voice. Bless Alma.

  • used to love this singer and also her dresses she died to young with cancer so sad

  • Today is the first time I've heard thais gal. She's good!! I wonder why she wasn't more popular??

  • @jayseah32 She actually was very popular back then - one of the most succesful and best selling female artists of the 50's.

  • jcksnbwrs - That would be some SERIOUS speculation on your part. In any event can someone get me up to date with what is being argued here. Did Alma know John? Help Me Understand.

  • Online Asian women here who can trust lushfmlk.info

  • Wow ! This brings back my childhood. Even at 10 I thought she was hot ! And she was !

  • I undestand a new dvd is out bt odeon containg lots of Almas tv appearances ABOUY TIME TOO. thanks for this posting.

  • Young nurse. In the 50s. Loved her singing she was a wonderful energetic singer. She dressed beautifully a wonderful combination. Great memories.. Her songs will go on forever. A great entertainer. IMany thanks for being able to watch and listen to her again.

  • Alma does an up-tempo version of the song from The King and I and SHE has fun so WE have fun. I did anyway. Good for Alma. But keep happy memories of the original tender song, whatever you do.

  • Love hearing Alma Cogan sing, but it's even more of a treat when there's actual film footage to see her perform. Thanks for posting this.

  • John & Cynthia Lennon & Paul McCartney socialized with her all the time. She was Brian Epstein's best friend & although he was gay, he wanted to marry her. Dusty Springfield was also attracted to her, but Alma wasn't gay. According to Cynthia, John imitated & dissed her before fame brought them together. Cogan's sister, the actress Sandra Caron, said Alma & John were lovers. Cynthia confirms her own suspicions about them, as well. George Harrison said John was "gutted" when she died.

  • read the new Phillip Norman book on LENNON ,, John was having a full scale affair with her behind Cynthias back ,, and why not she was a bonny thing,, and she died terribly young too,,

  • @spadge321

Most bios fail to explain the dynamics of The Beatles personal relationships. John Lennon, who's mother was more like an older sister to him, idealized her, especially her personal warmth, wit & charm. By most people's accounts, Alma had a similar personality. Eight years older, she held a similar attraction for John. Now, contrast that with Yoko. It seems paradoxical. But I've come to the conclusion, Yoko is John's Astrid (Stu Sutcliffe's German, avante-garde, lover).

  • hey darling you don't have to explain to me who Astrid is , I'm no novice, i know me Beatles history man ,, the reason Mimi was so adamant that John live with her rather then her Mother Julia (Mimi's own sister ) is that Bobby Dykins (Twitchy) was sexually abusing John, they all slept in the same bed,, get your head around that one honey !! ,, im currently writing a play about it ,,

  • They come and go, and don't we know. We miss them all.

  • I like this its nice Alma was a sunny voice, that I only just remeber as I was 5 when she died. Great to see tv footage I have the Dvd, but this should be on DVD together with her other tv appearences, thanks for posting.

  • I agree. Everything that Alma ever sang should be re-issued together with any surviving programmes and footage of her performing or being interviewed. She was just the greatest singer /entertainer/ performer ever. ;-)

Can you see my comment was meant as joke or more so as an affectionate tribute to the lovely Alma. And from what I have gathered from researh about her personailty etc she would not have minded in the slightest, been flattered and taken no offence . She was more down to earth than that. Anyway all our comments on here are here to keep Almas memory alive. Not sullied by your unkind and nasty bitter message and the use of the word 'retart' which I am sure you didn't mean it anyway.

  • MikeHudson65: What's 'retart'? Though I'm sure that must have just have been a finger slip on the keyboard. Anyway, not to worry. For one I am not unkind or nasty, just protective of Miss Cogan's memory. And a true 'Coganite' would never have made such a profound and silly comment. So let's just give you 100 lines of 'I Must Not Make Up Silly Statements' and let bygones be bygones and leave it at that shall we. Lol! ;-)

  • Ilove this american standard, specially in Alma's voice! The girl with agiggle on her voice is fantastic!.

I used to sing this song with my band.

    Thanx for sharing it!

  • Slaps MikeHudson65 for being such an obvious liar and for trying to tarnish Alma's image, as she would never have given birth to such a retarded idiot as him. Alma is my hero. Earth Is Poorer, Heaven Is Richer. R.I.P. Miss Cogan.

  • I discovered Alma when we heard her version of "Somebody Loves Me" at a ballroom dance. She was never well known here in the States and that is a shame as she was truly one of the great talents of her time. Her voice and style were as good as it gets. I am currently recording a new album and we are doing "Somebody Loves Me" on it and we will dedicate it to her. Bless you Alma for all of the joy you have given us!
