Dave mustaine has stated that he is a christian. But like all the rest of us(christians) he is not perfect and is only trying to live a life in the glory and perfection of christ as best he can. He makes bad decisions sometimes, but who doesn't? I've been a megadeth fan for a long time and I applaud him for incorporating his beliefs into his music in so many ways. He does it in such a fashion that it doesn't turn off his core fan base. And it is psalm 23 by the way. Great passage.

Its because the roots of mainstream rock involved a lot stuff like bands having mediums pray over their albums in the name of Satan and other crap. That combined with a style of music that sounds very abrasive/aggressive it easy for one's mind to associate metal = evil. (especially in some ways metal is just a more intense version of rock especially with all the artwork)

But yeah, I agree the average thing on the commercialized radio pop song is more pro sin than metal

Obviously there's Dave Mustaine (as we can tell from the song) and his returning Megadeth bandmate David Ellefson, but there are some guys in Metal who you would be the last guys you would even think to be Christians, such as Alice Cooper and Slayer's Tom Araya.

And Christian themes have been in Metal a lot longer than people realize. The earliest example I can point to is Black Sabbath's "After Forever".
