  • this song is so very lovely...x

  • One of my favoriees from the early albums. Sort of a haunting melody. So moving

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger's favorite song.

  • Must be the track I´ve played most often these last few years. I got the LP sometime just after the mid 60's, it was the first ever LP I bought ...´Twist and Shout' was the first single. The LP simply is mature, they are grown up. The love ballads are wonderfully pretty.

  • One of the best songs

One of the best movie quotes

  • Definitely one of their more underrated tracks. The harmonies are beautiful. The chords are beautiful. The song is beautiful. I still love the demo on the Anthology of Lennon crying out "It's too hard to sing!" when he couldn't catch his breath. I love this song.

  • All minor chords...how did John write this.? Brilliant and stays with me for all time.

  • being from liverpool i often grow tired of listening to the beatles, it's quite a chore when outsiders want to talk about them because of how often it happens but when i listen to stuff like this which isn't played to death every weekend on mathew street it reminds me why they're considered one of the best bands ever.

  • Julia Nunes did an awesome cover of this, which made me look it up!

    watch?v=JVPdPwOeO9Q

  • @punkminkis you're right,i sub to her channel,what a joy she is,yeah,she did a good job with her cover.glad you ebjoy her too,she's a litle treasure really

  • My parents just conceived me, and I love this!

  • love the way the strum the Fmaj 6th chord on the end of each third line ,,,how did they think of that ,

  • @TheAvalons1964 great modals and they sound good together! The lyrics are beautiful too. I attribute a lot of the Beatles' musicianship to George Martin ( 5th Beatles???) and his Ph. D in Classical music!

  • @TheAvalons1964 i think that's george's

  • @RockRaceBand ,,Harrison or Martin ,,,,could even be Lenons ,,,,whatever its geniuse ,,,,i play this song a lot with and when i strum that part it just sends shivers ,,,as with a lot of thier songs

  • The chord modulation on this one is pretty far out. Start out in C-major but soon switch to A-major then back to C-major again? Or not?

  • Comment removed

  • @BelRiose2000 Are you talking about the key? There are more chords in this than C and A.

  • @BelRiose2000 Am then to A major. Still strange though.

  • @brandonlace that is the deal!

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger was quoted as saying he wanted this played at his funeral.

  • I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS DISLIKES! the video clearly states what song it is and who it's by! why would people come listen to this if they don't like it! if you don't like the Beatles don't come to this video! (btw if you don't like the Beatles you have no soul)

  • I have always felt this is the best track on AHDN. "Things we said Today" is a close second.

If you haven't watched the anthology series, I encourage you to do so. They play early takes of this song at the end of one of the chapters. It is absolutely amazing how John & Paul morphed from the slow version to the final product.

    They are freakin genius.

  • Actually I have the Albums Beatles 65 and Yesterday and Today, was the Butcher Baby Album....

  • Actually this is from the Beatles 65 Album...

  • @wolfnu2 Beatles 65 was a Capitol Records compilation album of tracks left off previous releases. This song is from the Hard Days Night original EMI release. EMI owns Capitol and used them as their U.S. distributor. Capitol routinely cut tracks from the original releases and then combined them into compilation collections. The Beatles never released an album entitled Beatles 65. Yesterday and Today is also an example of this.

  • @crimsondynamo752

The Beatles had already released several albums in the UK, Germany and Canada before anyone in the US ever heard of them.

Vee Jay records had a contract with an EMI affiliate that gave them first refusal rights to the Beatles records in the US; a conflict with EMI's US subsidiary Capitol.

Additionally, the standard LP album format in the UK was 14 tracks while the US standard was 12 Tracks. Capitol chose to stick with the US standard 12 track format.

  • @Pudentame Absolutely correct. Beatles 65 and Yesterday and Today are compiled from those leftovers. Besides being a collection of their work they had nothing to do with either of those releases.

  • So...this is where the Terminator got it from :p

  • Am - A - Am - A - Am...I could enjoy this progression forever. And yet melody, lets not forget melody, hypnotic drums and witty words (plus singing). Go The Beatles Go.

  • only one word can describe this, awesome!

  • More early Beatles major minor modulation. Elegant and very effective. Nobody at the time was even close to their chord changes. Every LP was solid with singles.

  • Almost certainly the best song previous to rubber soul in the beatles catalogue, an epic

  • One of the best songs ever written. This is pure bliss.

  • @TheVasicist The kind of Beatles song I love, with "You cant do that" or "I'll get you". Simple, but so fucking gorgeous !

  • I thought that you would realize that if I ran away from you that you would want

Me too, but I've got a big surprise, oh ho, oh ho, oh

  • For The Beatles music:

    'I love you so, oh

I'm the one who wants you

Yes I'm the one who wants you...'

  • Comment removed

  • <3

  • that three part harmony is gorgeous. Paul does 2 parts and John is the main. That 3rd high monotone part gives the whole harmony, so such body. I woudn't be surprised at all if it was just 2 parts at first, and Paul, the sweet little genious, said 'hey, I got an idea' and at first they thought that it sounded bad, until it was added in, and then they were like "ohh!!! Paul, you're so fantastic! How could we have ever doubted you!" LOL! I'm a little partial to Macca, LOL!

  • @blackspace007 We all agree with you on the harmony. It is interesting to listen to Their first attempts. YouTube search on "I'll be back anthology" to hear it.

  • fkdklg

  • this is.... music

  • It would be easy to say this is their best song, about as easy as picking your favorite diamond from the case.

  • ...... LINDO LINDO

  • my dad knows Paul McCarthy, my dad works 4 Paul's air in Manhattan

  • @Senseionclubpenguin THE Paul McCarthy, or just one similar?

Bet he weren't in the Beatles :->,

  • Did anyone else just about fall in love with the harmonies in this song???

  • @iwuvjimsturgess Yes indeed! It's too gorgeous. "Youuuu, could find better things to dooo" Love them!!

  • @iwuvjimsturgess they are good like you say, i just love the passion in John's vocals, kinda makes me sad

  • @iwuvjimsturgess this song only?

  • @RockRaceBand

Well, not JUST this one, I love all of them

  • @iwuvjimsturgess YES!!!!

  • @iwuvjimsturgess

no. that happened over 40 years ago...

  • I can say without reservation that this is my favourite Beatles song.

  • I love you so, I'm the one ho wants you, BEATLES!

  • The BEATLES

    I'll Be Back

    Eu Voltarei

  • The best song of this LP.

  • My favorite line or harmony is the "Youuu, could find bether things to do.." But it's really the "Youuu" that gets me. The harmony is beautiful. It's the one after "But I've got a big surpise...." John and Pauls voices are dominant but there's that third high harmony by George, that gives that whole sound so much body. Without it, it wouldn't be the same. And it is hard to sing, it's an unusual melody, that doesn't go up and down by much. I'm not one of those over analyitical nerds usually

  • this is one of my most favorite Beatle songs..I am 54...and this song just makes me crazy!!!!

    nancy in san mateo, calif.

  • @backwards42 AGREEDED!!!

  • @backwards42 I am 57 and have always loved the Beatles. I wish that we had a time machine, don't you??

  • thought this was off of "beatles 65" album? ....... at least in the usa, it was!

  • So sad ....so terribly sad. And I spent every last penny I had to buy this my first Beatles LP back in the mid 60's.

  • pure joy my friends

  • the song “I’ll Be Back,” is telling us they will be back, a second coming, once we can see the true meanings of the songs. Search Truth Contest in google to see what i mean.

    .

  • It's so prophetic that this was the last song on A Hard Days Night. Very touching very somber

  • great melody

  • amazing song

  • Alanlennon98 so your going to be homophobic? Quit being rude and get a reality check.

  • A Hard Day's Night is a great album, along with Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sergant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Please Please Me...and many more! Lennon/McCartney were, and still remain to this day, the founders of a specific way of songwriting. Without them, we would not have had many of the other great artists...like Michael Jackson, Elton John, and many, many more, too many to name! Long live the Beatles!!!

  • 6 faggots thought it said dicklicks and they clicked it!!! screw them and read it right next time

  • This song still makes me trill today. i completely forgot it after all the megascores they already had made in those early pre 'Help' years. Considering such sound confronted music audience at a time they were still used to hear delicious Cliff Richard dolls and heartbreaking Sam Cookies, makes it so easy to understand that the sixties wouldbe completely overwhelmed and dominated by the fab four.!

  • Thx so lord for this Music. I like the Beatles

  • Superbe chanson une des meilleures des fabfour

  • Best song ever.

  • they r so awesome they are the termanator :D

  • Anyone who dislikes this song or any Beatle's song has no taste for good music.

  • keep learning youth!!!!!

  • “I’ll Be Back” is the first clue of the genius for musical composition the band would develop. Modulating between major and minor keys–virtually key-shifting as only done in classical works–this song ignores traditional compositional convention by having two bridges, while lacking a chorus entirely.* Additionally, the fade-out ending arrives half a verse early, creating a visceral response in listeners that underscores the story-line.

  • @ryanhashton Indeed.

  • one of favourite beatle songs. the guitar work, is brilliant!!

  • Which, of course, Arnold adopted as his all-time catch phrase.

  • This is the Beatles from the very heart of the Beatles...John the songwriter and lead, but you could see how they were ALL on LEAD on this very song.

Also, the Beatles sound was starting to become more musically complex here and on the rest of Hard Day's Night. The Albums afterward, esp. Revolver were an entirely new sound that I don't think has ever been duplicated. And each album afterward was a new era in music...these guys with George Martin were a creative mystery that remains to this day.

  • Perhaps my favorite song of the Beatles...I sang this over and over as a child.

  • I love this song, especially the oh ohs at 0:37

  • they wrote this for another band and then decided to do it themselves. glad they did. God blessed them with talent and they shared it with the world. they proved that practice does make perfect. today bands play 4 hours and plentyyof breaks. the Beatles played 8 hours a night. they wanted to make it.

  • @MrAmesj ? Are you omnipresent?

  • They are so perfect. Life is so unfair. I'm crying at how perfect they are.

  • Words fail me when it comes to the Beatles.

  • @TheSilhouette09 You broke one of your own commandments. Stay on topic! It's a Beatles song, so talk about the Beatles!

  • @TheSilhouette09 Another adjunct decree: NO LADY GAGA REFERENCES

  • This is melodic. All the Beatles songs are. Unlike 99% of what you hear today.

  • @Richard2003 Do you even know what melody is? There's melody and harmony in almost literally every song. Pop songs uses less complex melodies and harmonies, but for the record, there's still GREAT music out there. You just have to look harder because it doesn't sell as well to adolescent girls.

  • @CK3890 That's the 1% I alluded to.

  • I hope that 6 people won't be back

  • How great that the Beatles are letting all their stuff stay up on YouTube. Bob Dylan are you listening?

  • @huck229 yeh but to be fair the beatles are real tight cunts with most of their music, costs millions to put it in a film for instance.

  • @nicktheblade111 Uhh - Talk to Michael Jackson estate & Sony/ATV about that - they own the publshing rights.

  • @nicktheblade111 Agreed. I don't remember which movie it was, but I think it had Steve Carell in it. Cost 15 million dollars to use a Beatles' song

  • love this song so much

  • @R6streetcarver40 So do I!!!

  • 7 people should be shot.

  • oooh I'm not a perv but i think it's better to be called "Rape-Play" button rather than replay button. :)

  • Always loved this album. All 13 songs are written by them and is dominated by Lennon's writing. Sow much better than United Artists record released in America. Should be ranked as one of their greatest albums.

  • OK - now I get it. The Beatles really WERE the best rock band ever.

  • @Nacho66 and still ARE!

  • The best 'You'

  • 6 people are coming back

  • I'm addicted to this song.Although it almost 50 years old.Beatles can't be compare to anyone

  • i wanna sleep....but i hate to stop listening to you....

  • this song just makes my heart explode. it conjures up so many emotions. not even the subject, but just how it sounds. the instruments, the tune, their voices. i melt.

  • Always been my favourite Beatles song and is in my will to be played at my funeral.

  • @lutonloyalsoulman I never understood why this wasn't a single. capitol records in the states were always ripping us off. they wouldn't issue the songs the way the beatles released them. we didn't get this till the beatles 65 album in december 64. kids in britian had it since summer. it use to anger the beatles how capitol did that, and me too!

  • A perfect ending to an album!

  • I hate to leave you

  • the bridge is holy Lennon

    such a singalong song

  • comparing dave clark to beatles is an insult 2 the fab 4-sentence death

  • "ill be back" thats the line arnold Schwarzenegger said...hahahha... LOL ..

  • im jus so suprised how some people dont know who the beatles are. i swear, i kno a handful of people who didnt. well now they do lol, i can listen to the beatles all day and not get tired of them

  • @wetness6988 I've been listening for 45 years and I'm still not tired of them.

  • @myrtlebox omg my dad is tha same way. to us, beatlemania never died out, and never will! its better than the crap they throw out on the radio these days

  • @myrtlebox hi wetness ;-) I have been there from the start as well, saw them on film on Jack Paar in 1963. No one ever better, never will be :)

  • the best!!!!!!John, Paul and George! 6 people should be shot!!!!

  • the best!!!!!!John, Paul and George!

  • I believe that John Lennon is one of the most powerful song writer ever. His lyrics were just amasing. Really touches my soul, everytime i hear his music that is so powerful and human in nature. Touches everyone at one time or another. RIP JOHN. We love you brother.

  • I waih John Lennon could be back again :(

  • Lennon was better el mejor de todos los tiempos! mas que McCartney

  • When this was released, this song, and No Reply were in a minor key... the first time in seven LPs the Beatles did this.

  • after 40 years of wondering, I decided on this song as my favorite Beatles song.

  • @lovelosshoperepeat Funny you say that. I never would have even tried to choose a favorite back then, but the favorite chose me all this time later -- "Every Little Thing". Another one of those quiet little unassuming ones that run deep and dig in to stay.

  • @manthasagittarius In the end, it's the ones that move you and make you feel something, even if it's a distant memory. Just good stuff, no matter how you slice it!

  • @lovelosshoperepeat the genious of young John Lennon

  • This song will be played at my funeral
