They have a fix made back in December of 2009, but they have not put it up on their site. If you go to box[dot]net/sonyupdate, it has the unofficial drivers. However, Sony's update nor the unofficial update don't say anything about the HDMI sound cutting out, though they addressed other sound issues. On the AVS Forums, a guy reset to factory defaults, then updated the firmware, and currently has not experienced the cutouts. The cut outs happen on my TV too, and V series has a bunch of problems.
@dave2118 If it does work let me know. Like I said Sony never addressed the problem in their patches, but a couple of people said it fixed when they reset to factory defaults and then patched. I have not updated my firmware yet unless I can get confirmation from enough people that the process works. The patch was mainly geared towards the "flashing red" deal. Also if there isn't any popping while switching channels, it most likely is working (others were hearing pops almost immediately).
They just want to delay these complaints until all of the warranties on this model line are expired. I just want to know at what point will Sony's solution be to provide me with a working TV...however they do that...instead of pretending to fix the problem.
If you google this problem you will find hundreds of posts from people pissed off at their V-series Bravia. Sony is aware of the problem, and they are trying to play dumb about it. The last firmware version they came out with in August of 2009 was supposed to fix this issue, according to Sony's website...didn't work too well.
I have a KDL-52V5100 and a KDL-40V5100, and both have the same problem. This Bravia series has some serious HDMI issues. Not only does my sound cut out just like in your video, but sometimes my tv will tell me that I have no signal for every HDMI port that I have a component hooked up to. The only way for me to get my TV to see the signal is to unplug the TV and plug it back in. I have had Sony send a tech out who replaced the motherboard in both TV's...the problem returned.
if you have a psp number from best buy then get on the best buy website and open a case number with them . if you do not have a in home service plan form best buy them you will have to deal with sony . best buy may replace the tv themselves based on a customer satisfaction basis. go to the best buy site and TALK to them . there are many people that have resolved issues by getting a replacement GO TO THE BEST BUY SITE AND USE IT
ok so now you are talking about a totally different issue . lip synch problems . there are settings in the tv for game problems but lip synch issues are ALWAYS content specific period . Go ahead get another product and make that mistake.
If you can use your home theater with no problems then why not do that and live with it? if that doesnt make you happy then nothing ever will ....short of getting another product. And that is the reason for the three visit limit ; to avoid wasting any more of your time, and the techs ,and the retailers resources
@mikewm9v Simply because there's a delay between the video and the audio. "live with it" I should be happy with a $1500 TV that cuts out sound? Like I said, come up with a fix for this and I'll send you $100.
one of the problems is that owners refuse to trouble shoot the tv themselves properly. Call sony and have them send one of their techs out directly . Where did you buy the tv? if it is a best buy tv then three three service visits automatically qualifies you for a replacement tv . period. like all sony display products this tv has a service menu that will display any problems in its built in event recorder .
@mikewm9v Yeah, sony has been out three times and best buy wont do anything about it. I've already talked to the store managers. Where's the service menu? Find a fix for this and I'll paypal you $100.
I feel sorry for you all I really do, so don't take this the wrong way, but, just because it says "Sony" doesn't mean it's "quality". I bought a Magnavox LCD HDTV for like $650 after clearance sale at Target. They don't even make this TV anymore. I've had zero problems with HDMI anything. All these people that have these Sonys, Samsungs, Sharps, Toshibas, etc. have all talked about problems. They're paying for a name, that's it. My crappy $150 RCA receiver even plays hdmi audio from my TV fine
"That's life", very true. In fact, after I posted that comment, I started having sound problems, haha. For example, BEFORE hdmi, EVERYTHING played digital sound via s/pdif out, and had no problems. Had no problems AFTER I hooked up hdmi, until I posted that damn comment. Certain youtube vids would cut off sound in the middle or something (no issues with anything else). I'm a soundaphile, so I need crisp, digital sound for EVERYTHING. Was told hdmi cables are more signal "sensitive". Wuss cable.
Sorry for the $1500 lesson too (OUCH, harsh), hope you fix your problems and get a perfect set up. Maybe it'll ease the $1500 wound, lol. Consider it a "war wound" (it feels better). Anyway, Best of luck to you.
Also, I was told to turn off the Dolby Digital 5.1 on my ps3 and that would fix the issue. Not sure if it fixed it or not because the problem happens randomly so.. we'll see
I have this TV and 3 other Sony LCD flat screens (a 46", 32" and 26"). The 46" (not this one) is the only one where this problem is observed. The 46" is also the only one that has a DVR unit. It's not the HDMI input since it never occurs through the DVD player. The way I get it to stop is push pause on the DVR unit and then play. It doesn't happen a lot. I have come to the conclusion that the problem is with the DVR unit or the HDMI cable, not the TV. Maybe you're all barking up the wrong tree.
I've tried 3 different sources, different cables and the 3 different side HDMI inputs. I'm able to duplicate the problem. I'm wondering if the firmware update in August caused this new problem and Sony will fix it in a later firmware update. If it was as easy as going out and getting another HDMI cable, that would be dandy.
Wow that sucks. Sorry to hear about that man. I was thinking about getting this TV since it's on sale right now at $1300 @Best Buy. I do have a surround sound setup so should I still get this TV? The sound is coming directly from my DVR cable box so it shouldn't be an issue I hope.
Yes it will still be a issue i read comments on the bestbuy website saying that they had a surround sound system hookup and still had the cutting out sound issue as far as the dvr cable box is concerned...i have one and i still have the sound issue...so i'm warning you do not buy this tv!
Thank you for the response. I actually went to two Best Buys yesterday to look at all TV's of this type (52"/ 1080p/ 120hz). Out of all these TV's, this one had the worse quality. It could have been a bad setup, who knows. I'll definitely stay clear of this TV and good luck to you.
Hmmm thats weird cause i was planning on getting that module tv if sony ever comes to their senses and gives me a replacement which i highly doubt but now sine i read this...i just want my money back now and get a whole new brand of tv....i dunno whats the deal with sony and their hdtvs!
Yes, Sony has been out twice to service this television and says the problem doesn't exist. Hopefully they'll come to their senses and see proof from this video and it's not an isolated incident. When you pay for a quality name like Sony, you should expect quality in return.
Yes they have serviced my tv twice also...the first time they couldn't find anything wrong with it so when i got the tv back it was doing the samething so i called sony again so they cameback out to replace the main board in the tv and i get it back today and yet again...same problem!
you bought like this? or it happened after awhile? warranty? im having a deal on one so just wanted to know. question like that, how much u bought it for?
i'm having the exact same problem with my sony tv and mine started doing this as soon as i bought it! i called the geeksquad from bestbuy out here to get a replacement and guess what!!! same problem so now i'm gonna exchange my sony bravia hdtv for another brand...i was gonna get a samsung but i read some issues with those hdtvs as well..mainly picture issues so i doubt i will be exchanging my sony for a samsung but the question is...is their a hdtv brand out there right now thats not defective?
Yes i bought it like this and it was doing it as soon as i purchased it...its not under warranty with bestbuy any longer but its still under warranty with sony...i see that particular tv is now on sale on bestbuy for like 1499.99 but when i bought mine it was alittle over 2 thousand bucks

wha happens if you get audio straight out of the cable box ? what happens when you switch to the other hdmi input on your dvd player?

@mikewm9v Same issue, tried different HDMI sources, XBOX 360, Blu Ray. If I send the sound directly to my home theater, no issues.

Dammit. Lol I just got this tv through rent a center and I'm reading this, awesome lol. That's ok if it happens I'll just swap for a diff unit
