@cchan006 - Last I heard, SP&S #539 has been put up for sale by the railroad, since there's no real need for her any more. However, I could picture her as a cosmetically-restored display out in front of the Williams Depot...
@ThomasRivette Sir, 1522 is a 4-8-2 Mountain Type. A little more advanced and bigger than 4960, with larger drivers, too. I believe she was used for passenger service on Frisco.
I'm gonna have to make a trip out there to see #4960. Not the "Boxes on Wheels" such as the F40PH and FPA4. I see enough "Boxes" when on duty at TVRM. But you gotta admit, the Southern GP30 #2594 is pretty cool, as is the USA GP7L #1824 and #1829, plus the ALCo RSD1 #8669. But Steamer #610 is my baby.
I was wondering when they would pull their cranium from their rectum adn put the steamers back on this line. Must have figured it out. People came for the steam!Great Vid by the way!
@elrodjones Believe it or not, I never really got that smell during the test runs and the run on Sept. 19th. There is a different smell to it, but I hardly find it overpowering. And if you weren't sniffing for it, you probably would never be able to tell anyway.
It made special runs on 9/5 and 9/6 just to MP 4.0, and made a full run on 9/19 for GCRY's 20th anniversary. I think 4960 will be limited to special runs, but it's an improvement over "end of steam operations" announced last year.
Fantastic! I don't think I've ever heard of a steam loco being converted to bio-fuel! Pretty ingenious and I'll have to check it out if I ever make it to Arizona again!
I can see it now. There will be a cartoon somewhere, sometime, but soon.........#4960 pulling up to refuel, and someone asking....."ya want fries with that?" Great video, and I'm glad she is back. even if just for specials!

@Strasburg1991: I haven't heard any news regarding the SP&S 539, after GCRY bought her few years ago. Let's hope someone can chime in.

Beautiful whistle and a great looking train.

Nice video! 4960's whistle is similar to 3751's and 261's whistles.
AmtrakTitan455 2 years ago 3
That means I'll have to chase the 3751, which is scheduled to make a run next year.
cchan006 2 years ago
that run that the 3751 is making is only a month away.

Not quite... smoke smells sweeter, and doesn't sting like the oil or coal smoke.
