Sadly, he does not speak the truth about baptism and he spoke in direct contrast to the apostle Peter who said in 1 Peter 3:21,
"BAPTISM DOES NOW SAVE YOU! Not the putting away of the dirt from the body, BUT IS THE APPEAL TO GOD FOR A CLEAN CONSCIENCE IN THE SIGHT OF GOD BY THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST.
We are saved by faith, not works. Ephesians 2:8 Peter is making a comparison back to the flood in the day's of Noah. "8 were saved through water". They were saved from the water, through faith. Faith proven by the act of building and boarding the arc. Peter is careful to point out that baptism does not save you. "not the removal of the filth of the flesh..." What saves is "the answer of a good conscience toward God" a conscience made good through the completed work of Jesus. Romans 10:9
You ripped 1 Peter 3:21 out of context. Peter makes it very clear that baptism does save! It's not the removal of dirt from the body, it's not an outward cleansing, it's an inward cleansing of the conscience. And I never said we are saved by works. Water baptism is not a work, it's part of God's grace and the place by which he appropriates the forgiveness of our sins by Christ, (Rom 6:1-11, Tit 3:5, Gal 3:26-27, Col 2:11-13, 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:38, 22:16, Mark 16:16)
Keeping in context with the full letter (suffering and submission) we must suffer/submit as Jesus did for us that others may come to Him. Why does Peter take this 4 verse detour? He refers back to the work of the ark so that we would not be discouraged. We must remember that God was long suffering that 8 would be saved. God waited 100 years for 8. And as the 8 were saved by faith, (Heb 11:7) we are saved by faith (Eph 2:8). As they were in the arc, we are now in Jesus (Eph 2:10).
i love the depth, insight, and transparency of pastor Jack Abeelen. i attend calvary chapel south bay, but this pastor whom i have never met, nor have ever seen holds a special place in my heart, and by the grace of God has made a tremendous impact in my life through the "Growing Thru Grace" teaching ministry.

Cool, although a water baptism does not disqualify you from Hell forever.
